so, my computer got really messed up recently (tried to instal a virtual dvd drive without the right driver and the comp just kind of started to die) so i had to do a full system restore and that deleted ffxi, and since i lost my install discs, im not gonna be able to play untill i can save up for a new copy, though im considering going for the vana'diel collection. anyway...its been hard not playing for 3 weeks.

doing a full system restore shouldnt delete ffxi (provided you didnt go past the date you installed ffxi)... the only other way you may have lost it is if you re-formatted your computer, in which case you would have lost everything, and not just ffxi

Edit: i think (not sure, its been a while since ive used windows system restore) that you can un-do it

Bittorrent the Vana'Diel collection. You'll be able to install and then just use your account right off the bat. My DVD-Rom no longer reads DVD's so I have to download ToAU everytime I re-install, lol.

i may torrent the vanadiel collection, but seeing as a virtual dvd drive is what messed up my computer, im not eager to try to mess around with one to download ffxi.
Also, i did a factory system restore (basically, makes everything about the software the way it was when you bought it). lukily, i keep all my music on a usb hardrive.

I've never had any problems with using PowerISO to mount DVD's and run them, which should work with the Vana'Diel collection, at least I'd assume so.

damn... that sucks, sorry to hear it... maybe you should install FFXI on your USB harddrive so dont have to go thru this again ~.^ (or at least save a backup of it there)

I feel your pain man. My laptop, which is my ffxi platform when I travel for work all of a sudden decided to take a **** on me the other day. Something got corrupted within direct3d and no matter what I do, ffxi invariably states "failed to initiate dircet3d..." at start-up. I've literally tried everything I could think of short of doing a full system restore, which I'm debating doing tomorrow. I hate to think of all of the other programs and stuff I will have to re-download afterwards though.
