Trick or Treat?

Master, Master! Vana'diel has been on fire with goldfish scooping, dancing, and wild buffalos! But all that's over now, kupo! No more trouble, and no more heat! But don't you miss all the activity, actually? Aren't you itching for more excitement? I have some information fresh from the M.H.M.U. (Mog House Management Union) that just might scratch that itch, kupo! Harvest time in Bastok, San d'Oria, and Windurst is now over, and a bone-chilling, fearsome festival is in the works! The towns will use the festival as a means to express their enormous thanks to the adventurers for the safety they bring, and provide a means of revenge for the ever-so-few trifling troubles they cause. That's right, kupo! It's the third incarnation of the Harvest Festival! The other details given to me are vague because apparently, the festival planners didn't want any information leaked to the adventurers, kupo! Luckily, the M.H.M.U. had a few secret agents planted at their meetings! Apparently, there will be more than just the typical monster costumes! A certain hazardous-looking decoration(*) devised by the engineers of Bastok is scheduled to make an appearance. Oooh, scaaary... I'm shaking in my fur, kupo! The planners have also set up patrols during the preparation for the festival, so they must be hiding more spine-tingling secrets! Do you like playing tricks? Then I have good news for you, kupo! It seems they are planning to give away special costumes. Adventurers will roam the streets wearing the costumes and approach wary passers-by with calls of "Trick or Treat?" What will the moogles be doing, you ask? Eating candy and playing tricks, of course, kupo! (*) When questioned, Raibaht shouted, "What do you mean, 'It looks dangerous!?' Cid's inventions tend to have a unique look to them, but this was made from the same technology that allows airships to fly at great heights. It's perfectly safe!" I think I made him angry, kupo... - - - - - This event is scheduled to commence at Oct. 20, 2005 17:00 (PDT) and will last until Nov. 1, 2005 0:00 (PST). -Trade a treat to a disguised NPC walking in Bastok, San d'Oria, or Windurst. -The NPC will only accept certain treats. -Players might be disguised as beastmen or monsters for a certain period of time after trading a treat to an NPC. Magic or items cannot be used while disguised. Costumed players also cannot perform actions that require a target, such as talking to NPCs or opening doors. The effects of the monster costume may be canceled by changing to a new area or: 1. Windows version: Press the [+] key on the numeric keypad twice. PlayStation 2 version: Press the triangle button twice. 2. Line up the selection box with the status icon entitled "Costume." 3. Windows version: Press the [Enter] key. PlayStation 2 version: Press the X button. -Talk to an event moogle during the festival to find out more. Perhaps a surprise awaits...

Event Moogles
# Oct 21 2005 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, here's my theory on the event & obtaining pitchfork(s).

Once everyone has had a few days to blow gil on treats to give NPCs for the Pumpkin/Horror Heads & "bat" staves, SE will let loose the Event Moogles.

The event will most likely be quite similar to the previous "Toro" event, and this time it will feature some kind of Bomb type mob(s) to fight. Take a peek at the decorations in the cities ^^, and re-read what SE told us in the teaser for the event. ".. was made from the same technology
that allows airships to fly ..". So, once again there will be a NQ and HQ type mob is my guess.

Just a guess... but I had fun with Toro.

Okay, the moogles are out, and heres the deal: you have to partner up with someone and check the bomb decorations around town. However, my partner and I never found any ??? spots at the decorations, so i assume one of two things.
1) The partners have to be boy/girl (i was with another man-taru) or
2) you have to check the decorations while both of you are in costume (don't know if it matters if its the same costume or not)

either way, i've seen people with pitchforks, so they do come from the moogles. Now i just have to learn japanese to figure out how they did it >_>;
RE: Event Moogles
# Oct 21 2005 at 12:20 PM Rating: Decent
ok, the rumor so far as for the pitchfork

you have to partner up and then get two costumes. The ones I was told to get as the ghost and bones, then both of you stand under the red ballon thing.

Havn't tried it myself yet, still attempting to get the other items.

I haven't seen an event moogle yet, so maybe the pitch forks come later in the week. If we can even get them at all in this event.

I soent 50k on it soo far.
Got a bit of luck
Pumpkin head and II version
Horror head

Trick stave and II version
Treat stave

I still really want the treat stave II cause it rocks to have a free warp ^^.

someone said something about you need this kind to get that and that kind to get this.... sorry but thats not true at all, i traded all kind of crap ( no pies though) and still got all this ( goblin choclat bubble thingie worked nice).

Btw i haven't seen ANY pitchforks in windy today though i see 100nderds of ppl wearing pumpkins and
staves with little bats on it ^^. soo i really start to doubt you get it on this event( just like other ppl doubted it too)

Would be awesome though ^^ lets just hope and try to get lucky in the 9 or 10 days we have left.

GL to everyone enjoy !

Confused a bit
# Oct 20 2005 at 11:52 PM Rating: Decent
First time participating in the Halloween event on FFXI.

My Question is how do you know which NPC (dressed up) do you give what do? I mean do I keep giving one NPC a ginger cookie (for example) till he gives me something or do I just run around trying NPC's at random or what?

(keep in mind that I understand they have to be dressed up)

The Event
# Oct 20 2005 at 9:24 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, for all those that dont understand what's going on atm........

Buy Sweets (Ginger Cookies, Melon Pies, Wizzard Cookies, ect.) and trade them to the NPCs running around the city. Each sweet will give you a different item it seems. Wizzard cookies give you the warp staff, ginger cookies the pumpkin head, and i got the shadow costume for a pie (i think it was either a melon or rolanberry). The costumes disappear when you zone. And that's all I know right now lol! My local FF server just crashed (figures). /sigh Will SE ever get their sh*t together? =( You'd think after a 10 hours my server would last more than an hour.......

i just started playing about 3 months ago and ive noticed all the midgets (yes ima midget too) running around with pumpkin heads. I want one! also it would b very useful for lower lvls. Now i know it was obtained from last years halloween event, but do they repeat events? will i b able to obtain it this year? or is it only the pitchforks? (which i think would b fk#n bit$hin for me taru ^^). I also agree that the Dash sash is usefull, for arguments sake.

I didn't get to do the event last year, so I'm looking forward to this one...when I'm not out of town, that is.

I can't wait to do skillchains with my Pitchfork +1. Heh.

And I don't know about you, but chasing those Buffalo around and getting a massive buffalo butt in my face was scary enough. Almost as scary as Cid never wearing a shirt under his apron.

There are pitchforks in the .dat screenshots people posted, i forget the link but it was a level one item, the HQ having a costume effect to it as well.

edit: http://ffxi.cannotlinkto/itemdb/7455

it seems the hq increases movement speed in costume form

oh goodie, more Japanese "Treasures".....

I don't understand why SE creates these festivites with absolute crap prizes. I mean chashing a bull, getting warped all over town for a sash that is useless. or a pumpkin head that only gives 1 state change, and only when hell freezes over. 1 more item to put in my vast storage safe.

Maybe being from North America gives me a different outlook than if I was Japanese. Maybe a 6 year old North American child values the same "Treasures" as a college age Japanese player. Dunno, but SE should look at the demographics of it's players a bit more closely.

The Emnity+ of the sash is quite useful to any lower level tank, especially NIN having trouble keeping hate.

Any time you start complaint, end with a solution and perhaps everyone benefits. Propose "more useful for NA" items to Square and maybe someday we'll witness you're genius in action. =)
RE: hmm
# Oct 14 2005 at 7:34 PM Rating: Decent
I am gonna be rude.... you are f**king stupid! quit the game already and do everyone the favor. Dash Sash is well worth it, i been using it on my NIN and plan to use it on my PLD. some of the other players like to dress up with event items.
so maybe next time you keep your stupid opinions to yourself.
And i do believe you get a pitchfork and pitchfork +1 (Costume: Increases Movement Speed) from this new event. hope you all enjoy it.
