Race to Level 80!

Are you planning to 'zerg' your way through Northrend to reach level 80? Xfire is holding a contest to give you some motivation. They're giving away an extremely high end gaming computer to the first person to reach level 80 World Wide. Want to know more? Check it out below:

Upon release of Wrath of the Lich King, Xfire invites you to enter a race to level 80. The winner of the race will take home a high end gaming PC!

Read the Official Rules here.

I'd love to see someone from the Allakhazam community take the prize! Read more about the contest at Xfire. Registration ends tomorrow, Nov. 6, so sign up now.

It's gonna be a drag when that person hits 80 and goes LFG, only to find a bunch of "noobs" still at 71 ;)
nothanks.

Same, I want to be able to enjoy the game. That includes reading quest text and understanding lores, something that I would miss if I try to be the first to reach level 80.

IMO those that had beta access would have unfair advantage by knowing where to go and what to do beforehand.
nothanks.

I agree fully. Racing through it takes away from the enjoyment. It might be fun to try, but as you stated, those that participated in the beta have a HUGE advantage over anyone else. I say this from fact as I did the beta for BC and knew exactly where to go for fast quest and the entire layout of Outland. So, botom line, why rush when you know the odds will be stacked against you, plus I'll even bet that the "winner" will be someone that will have 1 or 2 "helpers" that will run the toon while one of them sleeps.

Quote:

. Entry Period.

Race Entry Period: You may submit your entry for the Race during the “Race Entry Period” which commences on 08:00 (GMT) October 27th, 2008, and ends at 23:59 (GMT) November 4th, 2008 (the "Registration Deadline"). All entries must be received by the Sponsor, as recorded and shown by the Sponsor’s computer systems, on or before the Registration Deadline to be eligible to enter, participate or win a prize.

3. How to Enter.

To enter the Race, eligible entrants must:

o Add the World of Warcraft character they want to race with to their Xfire profile.

o Apply to the “Race to level 80” league on Xfire (URL: http://www.xfire.com/clans/ggame/).

o Once they got accepted in the league, entrants have to head to the “Race to Level 80 contestants” forum (URL: http://www.xfire.com/clans/ggame/forums/104733/).

o On the forum, entrants have to create a thread as indicated in the main registration post (URL: http://www.xfire.com/clans/ggame/forums/104733/topic/334478/).

o After they have created their registration thread, entrants have to wait for November 4th. On that day, the Sponsor will post on the registration forum a thread listing the 25 selected racers. If there are more than 25 registrants, Xfire will also publish a waiting list.

o Racers from the initial list of 25 will be contacted by the Xfire staff to run some tests with the Xfire broadcast system under supervision of the Xfire staff.

o Xfire will validate or cancel applications for the race after the broadcast test. If racers on the initial list of 25 don’t pass the test, Xfire will get in touch with entrants from the waiting list.

- Xfire will validate or cancel applications at its own discretion.

- A maximum 2 users/server sharing the same guild handle and or guild tag or guild website will be allowed in the race.

- The maximum number of registered racers is set to 25. Xfire reserves the right to raise or lower the contestants cap at its own discretion.

- Employees of Xfire and members of their family may not enter the race and are not eligible for a prize.

- Members of organizations, teams or guilds which already partnered with Xfire or provided services to Xfire on a timely basis are allowed to take part.

Well considering the official entry period has ended, I don't see much point in trying to enter now. That and it appears the contest is limited to 25 randomly selected participants (everyone else gets put on a waiting list). So while the contest is a good idea... we're all a little too late for the official entry period.

Might be fun to tune into the broadcasts though. :)

EDIT: Looks like XFire extended the registration period to November 6 with the 25 lucky racers and the waiting list being posted on November 7th.

I've been tempted, but honestly I would rather take my time and enjoy the game. The fact of the matter is there are some REALLY INSANE gamers out there who will go without sleep for days just to reach. Although I'm dedicated to the game I'm not THAT dedicated. I'd rather take my time and enjoy it. But whatever fits your fancy.
