GameFuel WoW Battle-Bot Vanity Pets Available Now

Mountain Dew Game Fuel Horde Banner

Last week we reported that the prize giveaway phase of the Mtn. Dew GameFuel/Blizzard promotion had kicked off, and that the in-game Battle-Bot vanity pets (pic courtesy of MMO-Champion) would become available to US WoW subscribers later in June, as announced in an earlier press release. However, it turns out the "Battle-Bot phase" has started sooner than expected.

Earlier today, a link appeared in the lower-right corner of the official contest page, offering subscribers the ability to claim the Battle-Bot pet (presumably with an in-game or Battle.net code). If you haven't made the transition of converting your WoW account into a Battle.net account yet (because of all the log-in problems and downtime reported in the past), you will most likely need to. Although the Battle.net login page is currently displaying that "all Blizzard Accounts have been converted into new Battle.net accounts," that statement doesn't seem to apply to sole WoW accounts.

After converting your US WoW account into a new Battle.net account, you should be able to claim a Battle-Bot pet without any problems. Check out more Battle-Bot details after the jump.

First of all (and as unfortunate as it is), the Battle-Bot is only available to US Battle.net account holders. It's something that's stirred up quite a bit of controversy, and if you're one of the millions of non-US residents who play WoW, I sympathize with you. That being said, it's been unofficially reported by fans that some EU account holders have been able to obtain the pet by using this redemption link (having first registered with the promotion website), then ignoring the "US only" message and clicking on the submission button below it. However, any such methods are not endorsed by ZAM; we're just reporting the buzz.

The Battle-Bot comes in two varieties; blue and red, representing the Alliance and Horde. Each Battle-Bot is "fueled" by in-game charges, which can be obtained each day from the GameFuel site. A Battle-Bot given fuel of one color will battle one fueled with the opposite color. This is the first day of the Battle-Bot promotion, so details regarding the amount of fuel offered each day (or if it will increase) are still unknown. But it appears as though you can only claim one in-game item per day from the website.

The GameFuel website prize giveaway is still ongoing until mid-August, so there may be additional Battle-Bot-related "phases" of the promotion we have yet to see. In the mean time, get your free in-game pet and smash some Allian—er...I mean—whatever faction you oppose.

I'm a little worried I won't be able to get one--I signed up for the website before I realized I needed to merge my accounts, which I have not done yet. If I create one of those battle.net account things and merge it now, after signing up, will I still get the pet?

You should. I still haven't merged mine...planning on doing it soon (actually, being forced to finally just to get the Battle-Bot). I've heard of people merging their accounts after-the-fact and it working fine.

Does the game give a battle bot to all of your toons? Does the (what I presume will be) mail disappear after using it?

I got my battle-bot last night but sadly he came with no fuel so i cant have it fight other bots Smiley: cry. Now a question arises since this is a limited time promotion how will you get fuel for them once the promotion ends?

From what I understand, you visit the site every day after you get the bot to get five "fuel charges." After the promotion? No one knows yet. They might not be able to fight anymore, or Blizzard might give us a permanently-charged fuel item.

As I try to receive the pet on my EU battle.net account it told me that I needed a US account, it however still seemed to allow me receive the pet. I'll have to check when I get home as to whether they've actually sent it.

As long as you don't mind putting your country as United States on the mountain dew website you should be able to get the pet.

The news was just released that the ability for certain EU subscribers to claim the Battle-Bot even though they didn't have a US account was apparently a "bug," and not intended. Sometime within the next day or so, Blizzard will be retroactively deleting the Battle-Bot for any non-US account holders who claimed it via the "bug."

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...I know it sucks and it's unfair. I can only assume the reason this policy exists is because the WoW-GameFuel promotion is only being funded and marketed by US agencies. In other words, since Pepsi Co. isn't selling this brand of GameFuel outside the US (as far as I know), they don't want to waste the money expanding the marketing event outside the US either. From a business standpoint, it makes sense. But it still sucks.
annoying promotion

considering you don't have to buy anything to get the battlebot non-combat pet, there's absolutely no reason for it to be "US only". I know that here in Canada, residents of Quebec often get short shrifted because we have excessively strict "contest give-away" rules, but even in this case, the battlebot would be no problem, since there's "no purchase necessary".
