Five Reasons You Should Try Fantasy Earth Zero

It's a Square-Enix game, it has 50 vs. 50 PvP and lets you conquer the world. Need some more?

Maybe you're tired of your current MMO. Maybe you want something a little more action-packed. Maybe you've grown bored with treading on the bones and ashes of your enemies and thirst for new worlds to conquer. Well then, Fantasy Earth Zero may be for you.

Here are our top five reasons why you should be interested in the game.

1. 50 Player vs. 50 Player PvP

This is the meat of the Fantasy Earth Zero experience. Battles between two sides of 50 each are more the norm than the exception. And even with so many people on huge maps, your own actions can still be felt on the battle field. These matches can be jumped into at any time and often someone in your faction will send out a faction-wide distress call for more players to join the fight.

Battles are won by both kills and claiming territory on the map by building structures for your side and destroying your opponent's. It feels kind of like an RTS game where you play one of the units, but with action smooth enough to justify not being in command. And it's not only the strongest fighters who will help win the day. You can also help by mining crystals. I guess that makes you like one of those tree cutting goblins in WarCraft II but when you harvest enough crystals and build an obelisk that lasts the entire game and leads your team to victory, it's worth it.

Summons spice up the game. With enough crystals you can transform yourself into a humongous, horse-riding knight or an even more humongous giant that carries cannons. Topple a couple of arrow towers with cannon fire from a giant's back and you'll be hooked.

2. It's Action Packed and Has Balanced Classes

Since Fantasy Earth Zero is less about forming a balanced party to progress through a story or PvE missions, you'll find the class balancing setup more akin to an online shooter or other competitive game. Warriors are good up close, Scouts are sneaky and great from a distance and Mages are a mixed bag.

Even more interesting though, is the rock-paper-scissors way that damage is dealt. Warriors do extra damage to scouts, scouts trump mages, and mages topple warriors. Knowing these matchups is crucial to success. Pick the wrong fight and it's lights out. Although, just having more people on your side helps too.

FEZ is a very capable 3rd person action game with a nifty "dodge" button that makes you untouchable while you use it. The whole setup is refreshingly more "run and gun" than "point and click." The upgradeable skills that come with leveling are great and fit into a sidebar you can easily scroll through with your mouse wheel. Come on, arrows that tangle opponents in spider webs, who you can then light on fire? Awesome.
