Square Enix Plans to Announce New MMO

According to a translation by Adriasang, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada hinted during a May 13 earnings briefing that the company plans to announce a new large scale MMO during this fiscal year, which runs through the end of March 2012.

Wada stated that Square Enix plans to operate two to three MMOs simultaneously. Wada commented on the problems plaguing Final Fantasy XIV, noting that "they're at the point where they can see the target." Square Enix operates both Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV, and it's also worth mentioning that it's the publisher of Wakfu, which is currently in closed beta in North America.

You can discuss Square Enix's mystery MMO in both our Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV forums.

While I wish them to best I won't be trying this one out of the gate. I made that mistake with 14. I wonder how many other people feel that way and if that will affect the start of this game.

Hearing that they are going to make another mmo makes me sick, especially since ff14 still hasnt gone ps3.

Being the final fantasy fan that i am, I will try this mmo regardless, depending on its style, but if its just another "upgraded copy" of Final fantasy 11. then Square will have wasted alot of money and time.

How any idiot at SE let this cat out of the bag before FFxiv is fixed, earning and getting good reviews is beyond me.

They really do have morons running that company dont they? No seriously, this company's leadership is terrible.

This is really bad PR considering FFXIV's botched launch. There are a lot frustrated customers who paid good money for the game, and hearing this only makes us wonder where their priorities are and how committed they are to giving us the product we paid for (subscription fees or not).

There is already too much speculation and negativity surrounding the future of FFXIV. As it is, many people have lost faith in Square-Enix. It was just way too soon to make an announcement like this.

Well, just because they're hinting at it, doesn't mean it'll happen soon. Something like this takes a good couple years to develop...and if they follow FFXIV's model, take another year after release to get it right. FFXIV is getting better, but it's still far from perfect.
hmm

After reading this i canceled the ps3 pre-order of FFXIV as i already own it for the PC. It is obvious that FFXIV will remain horrible so there is no need to get it for the PS3.

Now a third MMO that i hope does not involve the ffxiv devs.
After all these years (since the ps2 release) im still having a blast with ffxi so this time around they should take all the time they need and not rush anything out for the 3rd MMO.

Ide say fix FFXIV but that really won't happen.
Hmmm

Hahahahahaha!

...Wait, seriously? This isn't a joke? One of your current MMOs is brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrroken and you think it's a good idea to invest in developing a new one? Well, good luck with that.

P.S. Don't forget to actually add a game in this time.
wow

All I can say is wow, way to ***** over your 14 players, the game still need tons of work, and here you go working on another game already... priorities in order I see!! Actually, I'm really not that surprised.
Sorry

It's SE's way of subtly telling those who still play FFXIV that they are wasting thier time, as FFXIV will no longer exist once their new MMO comes out.

Didnt they say that with XI? oh wait nope XI still is around and still will be around when XIV has content and has its bugs fixed.
Sorry

You cannot compare FFXIV to FFXI...two games on opposite ends of the spectrum there. FFXI will outlast FFXIV by years!

Beta response

You have to wonder if this time they'll actually make changes when the bulk of the community loudly proclaims that the game is broken and sucks, or if they'll just ignore the players and pull another piece of **** like FFXIV out of their ***.

the end to FFXIV is coming!! Either that or change is going to slow down on it (its already to painfully slow to be playable) and it will be free with micro tranactions with crysta.
