Gear and Preparation: Patch 5.4

Getting ready for patch day in World of Warcraft.

Blizzard is just days away from flicking the switch that makes Patch 5.4: Siege of Orgrimmar go live, and so now is the time to take a look at how you can prepare for the coming changes.

It is important to note that ilvl 489 gear previously available from faction quartermasters for Valor Points will be purchasable with Justice Points instead. Not only that, but the reputation requirements for those items are being removed. The higher ilvl Valor gear previously available from the Shado-Pan Assault is still there, but selling at a discounted price.

The quickest way to farm Justice Points in time for the patch is to run Heroic Dungeons and Scenarios, but don’t forget, if you prefer to PvP, you can always exchange Honor Points for Justice, just be aware the conversion rate has increased; you’re going to need more Honor for your Justice. Also, Conquest Points will convert to Honor on patch day.

If you’re worried about the item-upgrade NPCs disappearing, don’t be. You’ll still be able to spend Valor on upgrading, increasing the ilvls of epics by up to eight points. Bottom line? Save your Valor.

By now you’ve probably heard a lot about the Timeless Isle, which is a good job because this zone will become your new home. The place is just ripe with ilvl 496 epics that are Bind-on-Account, and there’s even an item called Burden of Eternity that can be used on a Timeless armor token to create a piece of gear that has an ilvl of 535!

The Timeless Isle introduces a new currency, the Timeless Coin that can be used to purchase valuable items as well as a Timeless Cache, which has a chance of having yet more purples inside. These caches are also dotted around the isle, so keep your eyes open when exploring the zone!

Mogu Runes of Fate can also be collected on the Isle. These will give bonus loot rolls in the Throne of Thunder raid.

Have a profession and you’re wondering if there’s anything you should farm in time for the patch? The following materials are among those needed in order to craft a variety of new items:  Ghost Iron, Trillium, Living Steel, Windwool cloth, Ink of Dreams and Magnificent Hide. If you would like to find out more, Wowhead has produced a comprehensive guide that is definitely worth a look.

Have fun!

Penny for your thoughts,

Patch 5.4 goes live Sept 10 (US) and Sept 11 (EU).
