A Day with SE

SURPRISE!

We have just arrived back at the hotel room after an amazing day touring the Los Angeles Square-Enix office location! Most of the visit consisted of "oooo"s and "aaaaah"s as we were floored with the all of the visuals and inner workings of the founders of the game we've all grown to love.

We will provide a full write up of the trip after we return home, but we were too excited to wait to tell you all of the juiceir portions of the meeting, particularly a special announcement made by Sage Sundi at the conclusion of the meeting.

They plan to make the PC version of Final Fantasy 11
windowable. Yes. You heard it here first!

The windowed version has been approved by the higher ups. Soon enough, we shall hear a formal announement and receive more information regarding this feature! For now, we speculate that this will be done via a future patch update.

Also, we mentioned to them how the drop rate for certain end-game items are particularly difficult. The whole team seemed very interested in our feedback (well, your feedback!) regarding this. Sage Sundi himself mentioning that we should expect a change in drop rate in the future as they evaluate that which was discussed. (More details and pictures later!)

Problem with all these glorius changes.... to little, to late. People know about FFXI. They have heard the complaints and the grudges.

It doesn't matter what a few people say is great about the game, people really remember the complaints and there are many of them out there.

Maybe if SE actually put effort into the game instead of just using it as a cashcow. You know, the wonders an official forum would do. Heck, even free MMO's like MU Online has official forums. People have been complaining about a windowed mode for YEARS now, and they just now changed their minds? People have been complaining about drop rates for YEARS and they are just now changing their minds?

Seems to me the populations are finally getting low enough where SE is trying to save the sinking ship.

Petty little snots like you are the ones that will complain regardless if anything gets fixed or not. If SE doesn't listen, they're guilty of terrible customer service, and are to be vilified.

If they do listen, then they obviously didn't listen to the right complaint, or didn't execute the solution to your specific liking, and are to be vilified.

Is it really necessary to whine about everything?

No...Golembane makes a good point, as do you.

1. No matter what you do/don't do, someone is going to ***** about it. That's just what our global society has become and deems acceptable.

2. A living organism is something that constantly adapts to change, if it doesn't...it dies. FFXI, IS dying. How do I come to this conclusion you ask? Simple, I've noticed that there were tons of players before SE started getting ban happy. The numbers on my server (Quetzalquatl) have effectively been cut in HALF! From around 4000 on a Saturday night to a measly 2500 or so. This means that only about 50% percent of the characters on my server have been obeying the terms and conditions. This also means that about 50% of the income SE receives from my server, is from gilsellers that get banned and come back on with another character.

Through simple deduction, this means that a lot of the REAL players have since given up and moved on to other things (read: games). Other places where the parent company is continually not just looking for input from players but putting them to action.
SE is just now remeding serious FLAWS (yes, I believe not having a windower for 4/5 years is a SERIOUS FLAW) in this game. Most either are windowed, or have the option to be. Also, I've played a lot of MMOs and I don't know many where you can wait up to 1.5 minutes to fully rest, or not be able to level on your own.

The fact is a lot of good, seasoned players have been making these pleas to SE for nearly half a decade now. What has SE done? They either spurned them, or ignored them. And they in turn have withdrawn their support (read: Checkbooks)from SE and moved to other places where they are happier.

The fact is no MMO is perfect, and none will be. Because what someone thinks is a good idea others will not. For instance I know some of you will criticize my feelings about the windower or just me in general. But the fact is that some of us would like to be able to play without having to worry about our Anti-Virus kicking us off when we are in the middle of a mission.

The remaing portion of actualy players either don't care and just enjoy the game, or are whiners that SE need not waste money/time on to appease.
Honestly, I guess I'm a little of both. SE will not listen to individual unless you are of some sort of influence. So, if you all want change draft a petition with a lot of names on it and threaten to quit if you aren't heard. This will accomplish 1 of the following.

1. SE listens and does what you demand.
2. SE blows you off and you quit
3. SE blows you off and you don't quit. Thus making you and all the other petitioners that didn't quit, lose face with them, and reinforce their ideal that you will still pay them money no matter how awful their product is.

Judging from the vast majority of people I've played this game with over the last 4 years, I'd have to say our community is the most like number 3.
So SE will do as little as possible to continue to gleam as much money from those kind of people until they finally quit. FFXI then collapses and SE still made a ton of money. Win/Win for them.

Conclusion: If its that important to you grow some stones and get a bunch of people to say "Do this or we quit which will cause you a net loss of $X.XX" Then if they don't...QUIT.

Sry there summoner, didnt mean to hurt your feelings on that rant... was a rough day at work and such. Yeah there are some people that are paranoid but there is no way legally that SE can find out if you use windower, other than hacking into your computer.... (hence thats illegal) so for those paraoid relax. One thing I've noticed its not as easy to tell when one is joking on forums or not... so forgive the mistake on my part...

SE support still isn't good!

Very nice, BUT SE support still need to improve a lot.

I'm sending a lot e-mails since September talking about my account (Tectintas) has been hacked on Quetzalcoatl's server. I'm unable to speak english well, so I cannot just phone to them, if they could speak in spanish, then I would love to phone to them.

A few days ago, I managed to get access to Quetzalcoatl again, and to my surprise, I see Tectintas is still begin used on game! I'll just to let you know (fake Tectintas) I'll never give up, until my account (Tectintas) gets back to me, or be banned!

I hope SE read this here and give me a reply now!

Windowed mode will make a great addition to the game for the PC users. I'm not against leaving out tparty, IMO the lazy people I've seen that do use it tend to ***** things up for MB & non-windower users when they WS out of the blue.

A distance meter would be good to have as well, just for a common frame of reference. (21 meters to the north, then hit the ???.)

I just hope they add windowed mode soon.

1st. To the person who said have SE charge a $1 to use the windower... come on are you that dumb. Which do u think people would choose.. Keep using the free one that have been for years or pay a $1 to get one from SE. If ur thinking the one from SE your sadly mistaken.

Relax, I was joking. :) I was only suggesting a "what if" question. If you had a choice between a free one and one that cost real currency, almost everyone would go for the free one. But... There is always someone out there willing to throw a few pennies for something they could normally get for free.
...
Isn't there a name for that? Maybe some kind of disease or something for someone who always wants to pay for things even if it's free. I don't know for sure, I just thought I'd clarify what I meant. :)

I was hoping the chewing gum commercial quotes I put at the bottom of that post would give me away that I was joking around. Guess I was wrong.

So yes, I *DO* think there would be more then one person who would pay to use the windower if the legal version endorsed by Square Enix had a fee to it. There are ALOT of paranoid players, many of which are too afraid of getting banned to actually use the windower.

I for one am a very cheap guy. You won't see me paying for anything other then the monthly fee. You didn't need to ask if I was dumb, my feelings are hurt. If I were Square Enix, I'd make the windower cost money. I'd be trying to profit off as much as I could. Most people would do the same. They won't want it to happen to them, but they'd do it to others.

Sorry I refuse to believe this until SE makes the official announcment of the game. You all say SE is trying to be like WoW blah blah blah blah. WoW the only point is quest quest grind raid. So what WoW had their own Windower first. Your point?

Why would SE make theif's knife rare/ex? You can't claim the thing or get drop? What is to stop me from wanting to camp theif's knife and selling it? I am sorry but in the horrible deflation my server is going through I'll take 15mil. Don't complain because you suck at camping. There doesn't need to be a drastic change only on some thing. If anything SE would make drop rate worse because if you haven't learned anything SE are douches like that.

I like that they are going to window the game & adjust the drop rate on some items but can you ask them about the thief's knife making rare/ex to prevent RMT & people who just want to sell it for gil from camping Sozu R. I like the idea that an earlier poster had of having onscreen cool down timers.

2nd. Better drops rate's that always a plus

3rd. This one was so funny. You mean to tell me you and your linkshell still cant claim ulli with all the bans on bot claims and such. My god is it your first time in sky. Study the PH's and other mobs so u know whn they are ready to pop. You cant have everything giving to you on a silver platter. Work for your ****, not have it handed to ya.

Rate me up or down.. could care less it means nothing... just my 2 cents on some of the comments that was mentioned in here.

I know people in the game that have used the 3rd party windower. I am so paranoid, I never DLed it and have gotten even scrutinized for following the rules. Now I can keep my head held high and look at them and tell them, "See? My patience has paid off and I never had to jeapordize my integrity."

Well done SE. Well done.

Windowed mode? Awesome, I've been playing on a PC for a year and a half without windower, why? Because I don't mind taking a minute to log out and check things, I'm not as 'OMG I MUST GET AS MUCH EXP EACH SECOND I POSSIBLY CAN' oriented. It'll make my life easier now, but I'm not stressed over it.

More macro lines? Yeah that'd be handy.. I manage with what I've got but I certainly wouldn't mind that.
But seriously guys, whats with the distance checking bullcrap? Are you guys really that inexperienced after x time playing that you can't eyeball the distance of something accurately? I have no problems pulling from within a millimeter of absolute max ranged attack range on my THF, I know exactly how close I need people to be for a curaga or a divine seal + erase on my WHM. I mean maybe I'm just naturally good at judging distance, I dunno, but to me a distance checker seems like a bit of an unnecessary thing.

Oh and the partys TP thing.. you wonder why some of the teamwork has gone out of this game, how hard is it to press a TP macro, how hard is it to read a TP macro >.< just go Config > Chat filters and set Party chat to 'hold', that'll keep it in a temporary buffer if everything else is scrolling by too fast so you get time to read it. I mean c'mon folks, it's not that hard.. is it? Or am I missing something here @_@;

Oh and i'll add this at the end; do not bite the hand that feeds you.

Edit: Good work Pikko, Exodus, don't let the ignorant masses get you down yeah? I look forward to reading all about it ^-^ keep up the good work.

Dont think I've ever seen a game producer/distributor lavish such attention on a 2nd party tools developer before.

But then, I've never seen a 2nd party tools developer make such a tremendous contribution to the game they play.

Much honor and continued success.

A question of my own
# Mar 03 2007 at 12:53 PM Rating: Decent
I remember SE had said that male Mithra are a 'maybe'. Did that subject come up at all, and if it did, did they say anything about letting female mithra somehow change the gender of their characters? I'm pretty sure i'm not the only one who wouldn't mind being able to change - I love the stats that come with Mithra, but not the attention that having a female avatar gets me.
Just wondering
# Mar 03 2007 at 12:23 PM Rating: Decent
Im sure im not the only one that feels this way but i was wondering if you ever planned on changin a few things
#1 I see how you mention end game ites does that include dynamis af drops and since were on the topic of dynamis wit all the deflation of merchandise and gil wouldnt it be nice 2 lower the cost of dynamis from 1 mil
#2 does these drops include Thiefs knife which is almost impossible 2 claim and it seems that even TH dont effect drop rate
i have a few more but ill leave it at just the 2 questions for now
