I haven't seen anything about it other than the ads on Cartoon Network for it coming. It starts tonight at 7PM EST (15 minutes from now). Ten, 15 minute parts, over five days.
I tried to find the short that it was based on last week but didn't have any luck.
I'm going to watch it. I'm kind of hoping for a Studio Ghibli-esque experience.
Edit: So, it's less of a Ghibli-esque and more of a... "Flapjack with slightly creepy things going on in an overarching story".
It's a 10 part mini series... but you only have to wait 5 days.
It's showing two 15 minute (or, more accurately, 10-11 plus commercials, as per the usual 2x15 minute series) episodes every day at 7pm EST. So by Friday it will be all shown.
I enjoyed it. The older brother and the bird have some fun back and forths. Actually mostly the bird burning the brother for being kind of a jerk, or at least not thinking before he says things. The little brother is the weird one. Foolish innocence.
The two episodes were slightly creepy but good natured. Seems like the brothers are going to be stuck on this journey home and run into various characters.
I'd imagine being on CN that it would air On Demand and probably on their website shortly.
A nice bit of mystery and creepiness, some comedy in the form of the four characters' banter. Catchy little songs on occasion (if a bit strange).
And a potentially interesting story behind it all that seems to be in opposition to the good-natured, almost playful, creepiness of the episodic stories.
It's a little over half done. I hope it ends well.
Has anyone had any luck finding the Short that the series was based on? "Tome of the Unknown". I've looked but it's hard since all the search engines and websites think I'm misspelling "Tomb" and forgetting "Soldier".
Well worth it. Good ending. Only about 100 minutes overall. Ten, 10 minute chapters. I'd place it on the level of films like Spirited Away.
Favorite part of the final episode (real finale spoilers, so ya... don't read it if you plan on watching it) The Beast: Are you ready to see TRUE darkness? Wirt: Are yo..*voice cracks* Are you? *readies to blow out lantern* The Beast: DON'T! DON'T!
The ending was nice. I mean, ya, I expected overall how it ended, but the bit with the Beast and the Lantern I didn't fully expect to end the way it did.
Greg's frog's belly still glowed when he shook it at the end, because of the magical bell from chapter 7 or so. And the other kids in the hospital were gasping, so it appears that they saw it as well. Seems like the events in question really did happen, not just the fevered dreams of dying boy.
Would watch again. Actually I have watched all of the episodes at least two times over. Except the last two. I get up an hour and a half before going to work so I ended up rewatching the episodes.
This mini series is being aired in it's entirety on Saturday at 5:30 EST on Cartoon Network. All 10 mini-sodes in order. It goes til 8pm. As mentioned, 10, 15 minute episodes (actually 10-12 minutes or so with a commercial after each one, as is the norm with CN shows).
If anyone hadn't tuned in before, and wanted to wait til it was all out, now'd be your chance.
