On Saryrn, the old auction zone was North Freeport. I liked how the traffic through there made Freeport actually feel like the hub of commerce that the city is supposed to be. You could zone in and see all sorts of people at all levels running through the city equipped with all manners of gear.

The Bazaar is technically superior in every way and I wouldn't trade it back, but it lacks the same ambiance that Freeport had. Sort of like comparing a flea market to WalMart. It's easier to go in, buy what you want and get out of WalMart, but it doesn't have the same feel of community.

I know what you mean by the community 'feel.' Before any expansions were released, I used to play on the Solusek Ro server and our main trade zone was Greater Fay. I remember zoning into Greater Fay and there would always be lots of people at any given time, yelling sales pitches left and right. If you wanted to buy an item from somebody, you would have to meet him. Nowadays at the bazaar, you're most likely buying an item from an AFK Trader, in which you don't even say a word to.

I miss the feeling of being engulfed in a new world filled with wonders worth exploring. I remember people would run everywhere. Nowadays you can get around the world at the click of a book statue. Even the teleportation spells are somewhat obsolete. Why look for someone to port you and have to spend a few platinum pieces (sure it's just a few) when you can instantly get from point A to point B at a click of a button, no mana wasted.

As a novice newcomer to the world of Norrath, I saw all kinds of people of various races within the thriving city walls of Qeynos, the city of men. People wore armor I have never seen before, spoke different tongue I was not familiar with. I was so worried and asked various travellers if I would be able to survive the long trip across the Antonica, all the way to Freeport. I remember the trip was long and very dangerous, especially with my blind human eyes, when the sun has set and my side of the world is swallowed by darkness.

Wish I can have that feeling back. I remember being lost in Toxxulia Forest and seeing a camp of Kobolds in the middle of the night. Five or Six Kobolds standing around a camp fire. I thought they were some sort of a coven. Being lost in the dark forest and meeting with Rongulf (forgot the spelling). As if I wasn't already naturally blind, he blinded me completely and I was punched to death. Of course I sought revenge when my character earned enough experience.

I'll never forget when I was wandering the underground tunnels of Freeport, I felt an evil presence. I walked silently and looked around the corner and witnessed a secret meeting...all of them followers of Innoruuk, god of hatred. One guy seemed was standing, everyone else was sitting close to him in a semi-circle formation. It was a master shadow knight, preaching to his disciples of hate, carrying out the will of Innoruuk so diligently. As a Shadow Knight, my immediate goal was to join the ranks of the Order of the Crimson Hands.

In conclusion, I don't think the world of Norrath has the ability to give that back to me - the feeling of new. Hardly anyone ever roleplays nowadays.
