foraging classes and racesFollow

I want to start a new character for the purpose mainly of foraging as my main cannot forage. I can't locate a site or list that tells me which classes/races have this skill. I'd like to research it a bit before getting on to create the character. Any suggestions?

Rangers and druids have the highest forage cap (200?)
Bards get forage but it caps around 50, if I'm remembering right
Wood elves and Iksar get forage as an innate skill, but it's capped at 50 (unless, of course, the wood elf is a ranger or druid)

Pretty sure that's all of them.

Foraging page from this site. Look at the top for the races/classes. Jophiel covered them all, this just gives a bit of additional info.

here's a alphabetical listing of all of the zone specific foraged items. Very useful if you are trying to find out where something is foraged.

I don't quite get the logic behind why a bard would be able to forage, but not some of the other classes. I would think that ANYONE should be able to recognize and find some basic food stuffs (roots, berries, veggies). I understand why some classes and races would be able to forage better than others...but can anyone explain the logic behind most races/classes not being able to forage at all? I'd think short races would be particularly good at foraging roots and mushrooms :)

(And yes, I know I'm taking a game way to seriously here. But so many tradeskill items are foraged, it makes tradeskills, especially baking, much more expensive for non-foraging people.)

Can you forage in RL Harthina? Do you know which mushrooms you can eat, and which ones will kill you? What would you rate you skill at? What if I put you in the middle of the amazon, which berries would you eat? The red or the green?

Admittedly my skill is pretty low IRL lol ...but even though I was raised in a major city I can recognize mint, blackberries, wild onions, and wild strawberries. And if I ever had the need or desire I could learn more.
But still..I'm curious...why can a bard forage and not a shaman? A shaman can learn alchemy, so must have a great deal of knowledge about various plants. Why can wood elves forage, but not, say, ogres? Won't an ogre eat just about anything? And what IS it about a bard that makes it possible for them to forage? Does their music make edible food just leap into their hands or something? I'm not griping, I'm just curious =)
