OK, I am not usually a complainer, but this really hacked me off.
Lag is very bad for me in the bazaar on Fennin Ro. A couple weeks ago because of cursor float, I accidentally clicked "buy" on a Blackened Alloy Spaulder selling for 100 plat (93 plat more than its worth). I immediately tried to contact the trader (Maritea) to let her know about the mistake and appeal to her sense of fairness. You can probably guess the response I got: none.
Now, I understand the concept of "buyer beware," and its my own fault for being careless with the floating cursor, but come on! What reason is there for pricing a 7 plat item at 100 plat other than to bilk a poor noob. What made it even worse is that 100 plat was about half the total bank of my lvl 17 (at the time) Druid, and he can't even use the spaulder.
On a side note, many thanks to Kemolena who, having heard my sob story, donated two items that made up for the loss. I guess EQ has its good an bad players, eh?

The player you purchased the item from was probably AFK, just like 75% of the bazaar vendors. It probably has nothing to do with if the player is fair or not, most of us don't have the time to watch our screens 24 hours a day just to make sure someone doesn't accidently purchase one of our wares.
I can say at least for me anyway that I will often times price an item high if there are no others for sale, just to be sure I dont accidently just give away a valuble item. If it doesn't sell I will continue to adjust the price downward.
As far as pricing goes, its a free market. I'm not sure if it works this way where your from, but in the US at any rate people can price their wares at whatever price they want with few exceptions. I don't think you fully understand the concept of "buyer beware" as you stated. It is your own fault for buying the item. No ones being bilked, an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. theres no invisible tag on the item that says its worth 7pp.
In summary, suck it up, relist the item in the bazaar, take your losses and learn a lesson. As a self described "Spastic Mouse Clicker" I would think this would be a good one for you.

With my Bazaar mule I'll often buy things for my main and if I don't bank it right away, I'll set a high price for it (not normally outrageously high). If I sell it, I'll watch for another one at a lower price. If it doesn't well by the time I'm ready to play my main I head to the shared bank with it.
What actually determines the price of an item. It is what poeple are willing to pay. You can use webpages like this one to help set what is a fair price, but you will see all the time people paying more and less than what many people consider fair.

Sounds like a guilty conscience to me, and frankly, a pretty harsh flame given the tone of my original post. You must be selling rusty daggers for 50 pp with your trader. ;o)

The cursor float is what caused the buy - the bad luck aspect was that the last item highlighted was (in my most humble opinion) 700% higher than the MSRP. But you're right - the price of an item is whatever the market will bear. 'Course, you'd have to either be nuts or, like me, make a bad cursor click to pay 100 for this particular item.
i could care less if someone goes 93pp over the standard price more fool them i say and if people use /bazaar then it will never sell.

i agree with lord xythex, it is a buyer be ware market. I myself am a 13 beastlord , who has no real chance of making high pp for myself. SO instead of dying at the hands of hihg level mobs, i harvest spider silks and sell them for a high amount of pp. I don't think i am overcharging for them but there is a high demand for them and they sell very well. Supply and Demand it's what the Bazaar market is all about.
P.S. I just bought a Pod of Water for 100000 pp , did i get ripped off?

The pod is slightly different since its a forage item and not sold by vendors. That said, I will quit my ******* about the lag and the perceived overcharge and defer to the more seasoned players on this issue - Caveat emptor!
Ok if we are going to rant about Bazaar pet peeves here's mine.
Stupid Framers.
There is a item that I farm and sell on a regular basis. I sell it for 300-400 plat. This item is also framed by several other players on my server. (Lore item, from a NPC). It's a good item at a fair price. But there is one framer who sells this for 90pp every time. It seems that long ago when they first sold it they undercut someone else at 100pp and has never bothered looking at others prices sense. She is messing up a good thing for everyone involved! AHHH!! rant, rant rant, and so on.
I've been wanting to get that out of my system for a while now.
But there is a good side to this, now if I don't have my item to sell and don't have time to farm it. I just buy hers for 90pp and mark it up to 400pp and start the /auction. I consider her a subcontractor now.

Some people put all equipment up for sale at a high price each night, unwilling to sell it, unless they can get enough to buy better. Buyer in a hurry will pay higher, buyer wanting a bargain will be patient, seller in a hurry sells lower, seller wants more plat will be patient. And the beauty of it is, profits get made and business gets done, and all parties should be satisfied. Be careful. There are items with similar names that are very different.
I have subcontractors too, people who sell potions for insanely low prices, way below cost. People selling potions for less than the cost, say they just want some of their money back for skilling up. Well, they are trashing the business they are skilling up in, so why bother. I am sure this happens in other tradeskills too. Anyone can make money reselling if you take the effort to learn what to buy.

Well, they are trashing the business they are skilling up in, so why bother. I am sure this happens in other tradeskills too. Yes im afraid it is a "buyer beware" market.
For instance try and buy a misty thicket picket at the weekend and you are paying 90pp upwards, - no mromal price is between 9 and 11p. You do have to be carefull what you are buying and what you are doing.
That said, if it was an obvious mistake I would probably have refunded you. I did sell somethink to someone at an inflated (not sure of I want to get rid of this item or not) price to a character a couple of weeks ago. Yes I was afk and yes they were too young, I half expected to get a tell for a while asking for a refund, would i have given it ... in that instance yes.
And for the Grimfars out there :-
As a trader I tend to have a fair price in my head and stick to it maybe up it a bit now and then but not to stupid proportions.
For instance lets take giant toes, they sell have always sold up until recently at 35pp a pop. That is what i continue to sell them at, I consider the people selling them at 255pp a go at the weekend as rip off merchants.
Same goes for essence of moonlight, always sold well at 40 - 50pp a go, not 200pp - its plain extortion.
Just my 2cps, just because i put a different hat on and go afk, it does not mean i really want to rip anybody off.

A bit off-topic but fits in here..... I browsed the 1p items last week as I sometimes do to torture myself with what I could have had if my silly half-elf had taken Kelethin and NOT Freeport as starting city....

Don't feel bad, last night I hit the Bazaar to clear out the closet and made a HUGE mistake. I had an Obulus Death Shroud and a Death Watcher's Shroud I wanted to put up for sale.
Well, I wanted to Sell the Obulus for 14k and the Death watchers for 4k. Since the two Items look exactly the same I made the mistake of listing the Obulus with the Watcher's price and the watcher's Shroud with the Obulus price. Needles to say the Obulus sold rather quickly. My own Dumb a$$ fault for not double checking. Gonna have to do a lot of farming to make up for the 10k I lost but it should help remind me to be more careful.
