Hello, I am currently considering playing EQ and have some questions/ concerns.
1) Am I too late? = Is everyone now so high in lvl that I will never be able to find hunting partners? Is the attitude against
"newbs"?
2) Should I wait for EQ2? Will it be that much better, and will a load of players be leaving EQ for the shinier new version?
I have been reading through a few posts on the boards and I see there is still that competitve edge to the discussion of what class to play. Is there anyone out there that actually plays to have fun, role-play, and relax from the cares of a competitve real world?
Any remarks would be appreciated. TYVM

1. No, I just started last August and I grouped often with other genuine newbies.
2. Don't know if it'll be better. I see people leaving from time to time for horizons or FFXI or whatever but for the most part, at least the company that I keep doesn't plan on going anywhere for a while. /opinion on don't think it'll be as good, but you just can't tell till you try it.
3. The class you play is all on you. We can argue till we're blue in the face about it but there really is no "super class" that's better than all the others. There are still those out there that like to role-play. There are those who like to have fun. If you're in to role-playing I think there are roleplay prefered servers. If that's what you're after, you may want to check these out.

Truly, do get the game and play. Some of us old jaded people are really glad to see "fresh blood" still coming into the game.
I have one heartfelt request. Please don't start life as a beggar. It's not good for the reputation. We'd much rather help random newbies when we see them working their little newbie butts off.
What's your experience with games of this type? I'd start now. A lot of the things you learn now will probably still be applicable in EQ2.
Don't expect a whole lot of roleplay on most of the servers. There is one roleplay server (heck if I can remember which one, someone help me out here.) If it's important to you, try that server.
That being said, we're still having fun. But you may find once you're in that some of the competition can be fun too.

Aye, yes there is, - but be warned EQ brings out the best and worst in all of us.
But give it a whirl and have some fun - because for 90% of the time that is still what it is, and 90% of the people are still fun people to meet. Go for it, but do not, as Yanari so rightly said, start out begging.
Roll a character, any character start him/her for fun and just explore, ask for help if you need it and give it when you can.

I can only advise you to consider if you want to do mainly soloing or if you prefer to socialise a lot.
Of further importance is if you are the type of casual player or if you want to become a knowable part of Norrath on the long run (well at least on the server yo play *smile*)
Although on the long run classes are somehow balanced there are always some who are not better/worse but easier/harder or more effective/less effective regarding soloing, grouping or to start with.
As someone who had a lot of fun playing a rogue til 24th level and now created another character which suits my personal needs better I can assure you that once you learned the basics its quite easy to create another character so there is really no "wrong" decision in your first choice. As long as your class/race combination "feels" right you will enjoy playing :)
