6 Mages with Air pets don't need a Shammy.
As mentioned, it really depends what you are killing and where. For example, in a DoN instance like Grounding the Drakes, the Drakes spend so much time casting spells that just 1 or 2 Mages with air pets make that a laughably trivial misson. On the other hand, try tanking Vxed stonemites with a Mage air pet and no healer...

Necromancers can do group str, atk, and ac buffs. Heal the entire party. Kite adds and usually have them down low enough so they die quickly when the party has time. Necromancers can FD pull almost as good as a monk. Necros even get a 3 tick ghetto mezz. And if you're fighting undead a necro is a must with undead slows.
Hrmmm, why did nobody mention Necromancers? No wonder Necromancers solo so much.
Whenever I group in Icefall Glacier and I kite adds, I usually kill the add before the rest of the group is finished tanking and killing the first mob.
Don't misunderstand, I am not bragging, I have maxed out my DOT AAs and focus effects and I just cast my spells and this happens. I do not have any special skills as a player. This is why you see most Necromancers solo. It is just faster for us to get xp solo, especially AA xp. I get 18 to 20% per kill in Vergalid Mines and I can kite 2 level 75+ mobs at a time and use only 60% of my mana. I run tribute so I can unoffcially time this as well. It only takes 3 minutes to kill those 2 mobs for 2 yellows of AA xp. Again, I am not bragging, SOE just gave us the tools to do this. I am surprised there are not more calls for Necromancer nerfs.
Having to hold back casting DoTs in a traditional "tank" group so as to avoid getting aggro is so inefficient for a Necromancer it is absurd.
