Most classes need to group for experience after about level 20 or so.

Some quests are just for amusement, faction, minor items, and some experience. However later in the game you'll need to do quests for access to certain zones (less now than previously, though).

As long as you are polite and ask reasonably clear questions most people will be willing to help you out. Don't beg, and don't whine if no one answers right away.

People are generally good in EQ1 and EQ2.

I would not suggest starting EQ1 at this point in time. The game is still good, but it is dying slowly. EQ1 requires two things - groups and lots of time. Since more people are leaving than coming, and those who stick around are already higher levels, there are very few groups to be found for a newbie. To get anywhere in EQ1 requires a collosal amount of time spent.

EQ2 is a great game, but it also suffers from a similar phenomenon. When EQ2 came out, a rush of new players came in and all levelled at about the same rate. Now, almost all active EQ2 players are level 40-50. Granted, just about any class can solo quite effectively from 1-40, so its not such a handicap to be alone.

I'd try EQ2 if I were to begin a new game, although I still find EQ1 to be more fun (and more agravating) on those rare occasions I go back to play it.

I still like EQ1 best. My alts have mostly soloed however, because on so many servers, there is not the quantity of low levels there were at one time. If you do it pick a newbie server. With some of the new potions out there, I think it is a little easier to solo. But EQ is the richest game in lands, history, things to do, people to ask advise, etc. because it has been around so long.

Another game is Anarchy Online, a futuristic storyline. It is a lot of fun, and you can accomplish a lot solo. It is also free for the base game (no expansions). Have to admit I love having machine guns and phaser type weapons. There are hot space ship type vehicles and you can dress up from bikinis to leather jackets, and have an apartment. I love that you can log on for an hour and accomplish something.

I have talked to several people that quit EQ 1 when EQ2 and WoW came out. I Lost alot of ingame friends to those games.

But as of recent I have noticed an unteresting trend. One by one these people are filtering back into EQ and staying. I have seen more people than I can count ditch WoW and come back to EQ1. Their main reason is that once you hit level 60 in WoW there is only one thing you can do and that is raid raid raid. A couple of people I know from WoW actually gave up their guild leadership and packed it in... sold their accounts and will not be returning.

The people I have talked to that have returned from EQ2 tell me that, According to them, all the riff raff and plat sellers from EQ1 have moved on to EQ2. They constantly find mobs they would like to kill for ex and some loots camped by higher end players. Although I understand the need for money and cash on the game camping them constantly day after day and hoardinbg the camp seems a little greedy to me.

Admitted some of this happens on EQ1. But with a little finesse and creative thinking, you willl still be able to get your fair share of kills. I have seen one 6 boxer on Xegony try hogging the cubbies WoS camp for about 3 weeks now and /ooc KS'er when ever anyone tried taking one of the spawns. They learned the hard way that people only put up with so much greed then they take action. It was quite obvious that this person not only 6 boxed but also ran macro's to automate the casters. People finally got sick of her greed and started huntin her instead of mobs. People that get too greedy usually find themselves on the end of a rather humbling corpse run. I dont feel bad for these people. Especially when I am killing Ferans and Chimeras and a namer pops and I pull it, then I see her toons there and get a tell "I hate you!" "Don't be surprised if you get killed by a train". All this when she was camping cubbies. A little after that I saw a pally on a Drogmor exact his own righteous justice. He grabbed a huge train and paid them a visit. His last words before he clicked his vial of swirling smoke was.... "Hi, remember me?"

there are idiots in every online game, but I can vouch for the people of EQ1 being some of the best players I have ever met, AND the most generous. not having played EQ2 or WoW I cant vouch for the people there, but with the ammount filtering back and stateing the same reasons for leaving, over and over again, I cant help but form an opinion.

In my opinion, EQ1 has the best playability, and has literally 1000's of quests to do. Even at the higher levels, there is always something to do from tradeskills to questing and even alternative advancement xping.

I'm still playing WoW but taking my time leveling after starting over on a new server. I have fun; I'm in a cool, casual guild and have friends there.

However, I did come back to EQ after a break. It's just more... interesting, for lack of a better word.

That made me depressed =(...
1) Alot of classes really need groups, I would suggest a shaman or necromancer for soloing... but I guess the new potions have made it a lil easier for other classes to solo.
2) You dont have to do that many really but to get into some zones like Time and Anguish where the best gear is you have to
3) Yea, I remember when I first started a nice enchanter named Delfine gave me a robe, a stein of moggok, and a nice dagger... I loved the stein =D... I think I accidently threw the dagger though =(

BTW-- EQ2 takes a better system to run than EQ1 so if you dont have that good of a computer i would suggest EQ1 if you do have a nice computer I would still suggest EQ1 =D Good luck... if you decide to play EQ1 and are on the tunare server look me up... info below =)

--Edit-- Make sure you stay in touch with your friends from that other game, one of my friends left EQ1 for WoW I haven't seen her since =(...

I`m officer in a guild on Povar. Lately we have had many returners to the game - either from a break due to RL, switching to EQ2 or WoW and not finding them satisfying - and total newby`s starting from scratch.
The newby`s are actually the easiest to help as they have no preconceptions, whereas returners are sometimes confused by old and new systems.
Many others will have ideas on which is the best class to roll, but start a few toons and see which you prefer.
We were formerly on Morden Rasp and were merged with Povar - people ARE friendly, they WILL help - get to meet people in the Tutorial or PoK, ask questions (maybe not always in /ooc as that can irritate if dozens of people around), but if you`re in a zone with just a few people use /ooc. There are a few muppets around - just live with it and move on - I view it as their loss !! Learn to use /who and it`s filters to find the right people to help you.
If you group with people you like, add them to your friends list and try & keep in touch. Try and find a guild that is newby friendly...just get out there and enjoy it !!
