20k USD seems conservative. What was Xoraxis and crew bringing in a year ago or so? Didn't it pay for his college education? Someone else bought and paid for thier house from reselling plat, just on FV.

it's very conservative.

with being able to do it on all servers, not just FV, I wouldn't be surprised if he was being truthful about the 300k.

I've made around 25k selling plat in the last ~10 months. Yeah, yeah, I am evil, I sell plat. you can look on any reseller's site to see plat prices. I've paid up to 3000 USD for a high end firiona vie character, which I then sold for around 5.5. before the recent slump, it was -easy- to clear $700, I'm kind of confused about why you think platsellers cant make that much money. I've made 25k in ten months, just reselling, imagine how much you could do when you can create items.

... so what exactly is the difference between what this guy is doing and what you are doing? You both are violating the EULA, you both are contributing to the degradation of the game environment, you are both ruining the game to make RL cash, it seems your problem with this guy is that you are jealous of what he accomplished.

Do I hate this guy and what he is doing? Sure but I hate plat sellers and farmers just as much.

EDIT: In fact on your main account here you have a link to your personal website. At least the guy duping gear on FV server isnt bringing his stuff in hrere like you are.

umm theres a -little- bit of a difference between selling items you've earned, and selling things you've created out of thin air...

.. in fairness you have repeatedly spoken about exploits and illeagle hacks on this forum. You didnt use any of those to "earn" the stuff you sell for RL cash.

So do you have to report that as taxable income? Cuz tax on $25k ON-TOP of your normal salary is a bitch...even if it is free(in relative terms) money.

I'd love to see the audit for that.

IRS: "So where did you get this 25k?"
Czae: "meh, slugworms and Anguish level armor and weps mostly."
IRS: "Are you an arms dealer?"
Czae: "Are you going to SoW me or what..you don't have to be a di
ck?"

there is a gigantic difference between, say, exploiting the war in the feerrott for a mask to use, and this.

but then again, I didn't sell any of the stuff I've exploited ~ =p

did you sell the mask you replaced with the exploited mask? really the same difference. Bottom line both of you are committing banable offenses to make RL cash.

no, I gave it away.

there's a huge difference between duping and selling plat. I am selling items that already exist. I do not generate any additional items or platinum. What I am doing is a thousand times less damaging to the economy.

Long time lurker here but this post made me have to ask the following ... how the hell do you report that income during tax time?

I hired an accountant.

I believe he filed it as investment income, which since my other income was neglgible was taxed at like 10%.

I love being in school and making that much doing nothing.

19.

yeah, it's not a huge amount of money in the grander scope of things, but that much for doing nothing while getting a degree is hard to beat ;-)

I figured it would have been claimed as some sort of business which would have meant you would have taken a bath (not much you could deduct that I could see) ... 10 percent isn't bad, sounds like you did the wise thing there.

Now I'm wondering how he was able to claim it as an investment ... doesn't seem to fit the patten but I'm no accountant.

Has whatever he was exploiting been fixed yet? I would hope this is the answer to restabalizing the economy across the servers.

well, I'm not sure it really can be legitly claimed as investment income, but I had a hell of a time explaining the situation to him, have you ever tried to keep a straight face saying "Yeah, all that income is from selling pretend swords to people."

Have the devs been made aware yet? Like in a public forum like the Station boards?

I can see how this might effect game play on FV, but since I have no toons there I really don't care all that much.

SOE was sufficiantly arbitray enough to ban 3 good players I knew of, over experimental duping using the Guild Bank bug (only one was able to return), I see no reason why they can't track this guy down and off him.

Believe it or not SOE has detailed logs of EVERY transaction. I found this out when I petitioned mistakenly handing my Squad Ring to someone's pet when I thought I was turning it in for a re-charge. GM returned it no problem but from talking to him, he had detailed knowledge of the whole transaction, including the pet's name, an hour after the fact.

Quote:
I don't want specifics as I am not looking to dupe items, just wondering how people perform such tasks.
Diseminating this information in any form is cause for banning by the way. Do not expect anyone to risk it by telling you even in general terms how such things are accomplished.

Didn't know that... But information like you posted is all I was looking for, nothing detailed...

No details, just "bug with guild bank." I removed my request, I don't want people to get banned :-)

Every so often or if it gets rampant enough to make SOE's radar they have a 'witch hunt' and make an example of the cheaters. Word gets around about an exploit and soon too many people are trying it and so SOE puts their foot down so they do not look like total fools (or hypocrites).

One guy duping stuff might not make their radar, unless there is a lot of chatter on the boards about it.

One of the reasons they site in banning you is that you 'told others how to exploit a bug' which seems to be worse in their minds than actually exploiting. I suppose it is.
