Where did you have the most fun?Follow

I'm sure someone has done this at one point over the life of these forums, but I just thought I'd ask again. I always enjoy looking back over my years playing EQ and the times where I had the most fun. Being a solo player most of the time, there are a few that stick out to me.

-Hunting the Needlites in Echo Caverns. Such a cool little zone. Very dark, very small and claustrophobic feeling. I loved every minute in the Needlite cave.

-Camping Raster in Lower Guk. Definitely a similar claustrophobic feel of Echo Caverns, but with wandering mobs. I loved having the camp broke up enough where I could solo it without a problem. It was nice (and a little creepy) being the only one down there. And being a Monk, I knew the only way out was either to run and feign a lot, or bring gate potions with me (which is what I usually did). It was far easier to get down there than to get out. Plus when I wanted to get out, I didn't want to waste time, I just wanted out.

-Spiders in Crystal Caverns. I never did go fight the Queen, but the spiders were loads of fun.

I guess I just love the dark, underground areas (I loved the LDONs when I could find a group). And although I haven't played EQ1 since EQ2 came out, I can't close my account. I know there are tons of areas I haven't visited that I will love and eventually I want to be playing both.

I would have to say my first venture into Mistmoore going after the good ol' Armor of Ro drops. What a cool place that was for a first timer. Scary too. We actually made it into the castle ballroom or maybe it was the dining room, but our druid got charmed and basically started nuking the hell out of us. It was my first experience with someone getting charmed.

"Dude!!!! WTF you nuking me for????"

I actually ended up being the only one left alive...barely..and thought I could hide under the table from the repops. Found out this was not the case either.

That reminds me of my first trip to Unrest. Man, that place scared the crap out of me (I was too low to be there in the first place though). Even just walking around Dagnor's Cauldron freaked me out.

I started with a druid and got used to a lot of solo play, but I loved grouping... My favorite two spots were OS and HS,, I used to be the master at putting groups together for these zones and we would go there and exp hours on end... Then they upgraded Velk's and everyone stopped wanting to go there :-/

I also like to charm kill the Wulrus in SG, this was very dangerous and made it fun as a druid...

With my rogue my favorite spot had to be well OS still, hehe....

I've had a lot of fun throughout the years. A few specifics?

I have killed the Queen spider in Crystal Caves, with a small pickup group. I think we all were killed also, but managed to get the loots. That was a blast.

Leveling in the Sarnak fort in LoIO with my ranger. Good times...

Spending a year off and on camping Frenzy room in LGuk with my necro. It was a lot more fun than an endless camp sounds.

Guild raids in Halls of Tesating, ToV. My favorite raiding zone!

I will never forget the first run...I mean actually *running*...from Qeynos to Freeport 6 years ago. It was a *major* feat and truly an epic journey albeit short journey for me at the time.

My first character was a druid. When I didn't feel like soloing I'd head to Sebilis. Back in the day you would find around 80 people in there, forming groups, calling camps. The place was really alive back then. When my druid was 56 he wass lucky enough to get into a king group. Three fungi tunics dropped in 4 hours. It was good times.

My most favorite times where as a young ranger in Runney eye, starts of not bad then faction makes everything want to kill you.

Crystal caverns for sure, the day I killed the queen solo I never went back, except with alts.

Old school splitpaw, now that was a fun and challenging thing to be in the bowls of that place.

Mistmoor was a blast, call of flames quest anyone, haha.

My to favorites are the break in in Pofear and moving through the island in PoSky, lots of fun and death in those places.

Everyone talks about those days, funny thing we didn't have them on Torv... The reason I loved OS is because on Torv it wasn't used that much (at least when my druid was 50'ish). The beginning/mid velious days is when I hit 50. I NEVER got a pick up group in OS and don't ever remember one being called... You could go into OSeb and find about 12-18 people in the zone max, all groups... I think one time I /who and got 30, and felt it was packed (one group in Nec/Guard, on in Disco1, 1 in Jail area, on at chef, and one crypt)... Only time I remember it getting more packed was when Trak was raided...

Then the wizards learned to AE the place and it got nuts and no one wanted to group there anymore :-P

I thorougly enjoyed my first few weeks of EQ, most of which I spent in Blackburrow. I thought it was great finding groups there, waiting our turn to camp the green room, watching the whole group scatter when trains came through (and making the run from the Halas ramp when I didn't make it out of the way in time). It was awesome. I was so proud of my Steel Ta'Nak that someone gave me to upgrade from my rusty ******* sword. In my other hand went my lightcrawler antenna, which took me hours of farming rat tails outside Qeynos to save up for (this was before I knew about off-hand delay).

Now it's kind of sad returining to Blackburrow with each alt I make and see that I'm the only person in the zone.

Short?? The trip (for me, from Kelethin to Surefall) took 6 months to complete! Of course, I died every zone on the way...kept falling off boats...getting lost...etc.

Usually the term "epic" and "short" don't belong in the same sentence...hence, the delineation =P

I think the best time i have ever had in EQ was the second moonth after LDoN came out.

Once they cured the problem with low collection quests not dropping, LDoN was so much fun, chain pulling as a low 50's pally.

Yeah, LDoN was very fun to me.

actually I had a lot of fun with EQ, at all levels and all zones.

I love grinding, as long as the group is half decent and killing something that's challenging.

I had similar experiences with LDON. When I finally would find a decent group, we would typically stay together for hours and just do one after another. Very fun. Is it easier to get groups nowadays? I haven't played in forever.

I think my most fun was leveling the cleric in highhold keep.
Also soloing jonwin in unrest at 30, and his soloing in stonebrunt mnts in the late 30s.

Exploring PoM ... unfortunately it was the revamp but we still had a great time walking around the castle getting warped and smacked and just trying to see what was where.

The old plane of mischief was my favorite. I only got to play in it for a few months before they changed it, but there is nothing like being able to solo just about anything and have fun doing it. Going through the 4 rooms 4 times with things goin from tiny to HUGE was awesome. I miss my PoM )

Hmm, Runny Eye before the revamp was awesome.

Cazic Thule before they revamped it was also an awesome place to go. Camping the LTR for the Lizardscale Shoulderpads on my cleric.

The orc camp in Highpass. That was really hard back in the day to keep up with all those spawns.

Kael was an awesome zone too. It scared the crap out of me when I went there at like level 40 when velious was first out. But before I quit a year ago it was one of my favorite zones.

Plane of Hate, and Plane of Fear back in the old days. I sat up on the wall in Hate on my first raid there, and agroed a bunch of adds from the second level. Totally wiped the raid. Although I did manage to camp out and then come back on and ress a higher level cleric so he could ress the rest of the raid.

Western Wastes, pulling the Dragons to the shoreline and killing them to get those awesome Amulets and maybe some dragonhide armor. Took my guild 3 groups to do it, and 30 minutes each dragon with rebuffs and all.

City of Mist was cool, first time going up the invisible stairway was really cool. And then everybody getting levi cast on them and then jumping off after the raid was over.

Sol A was an awesome dungeon too. Best exp in the game from 25 to 42. Camping the Charred Guardian Shield and Molten cloak. I remember selling those for 500pp a peice on the shields and 1000pp per cloak back in EC.

EC was the best zone ever though. Hands down.

Droga/Nurga? I liked both of those revamps. Although I never saw the original CT, the higher lvl version is pretty cool as well.

I think Runnyeye benefitted from its revamp. It kept the original mobs on the second floor so the level spread was merely widened instead of having the entire zone level raised. It was also one of the first zones (if not the first) to use the principle of randomly spawning* named mobs, an idea I heartily endorse. I'd rather see more revamps like that than the "Turn lvl 20 zone into lvl 65 zone" revamps a la Cazic-Thule, Mistmoore & Splitpaw.

*Well, there seems to be four or five set points throughout where they spawn but you can't just camp "King room"

The problem with the Runnyeye revamp was how hard the new goblins are. They have like 20 regen a tick, and their casters have too much mana, and their spells hit way too hard. 50 to 75DD off a level 10 mob that chain casts and regens faster than you can do damage if you aren't twinked or really really buffed?

It isn't a useable exp zone for new players like it used to be. And it makes it really hard for lower level players to get to the Gorge of King Xorbb.
