Hunting the Scarlet DesertFollow

#1 Aug 04 2005 at 9:53 AM Rating: Decent

I’m looking for my next hunting grounds, for a new alt of mine. The alt is now a 24 Pally. My Wife has been helping me bring this young one up in Norath with her 43 Cleric. My question is can I hunt the Scarlet Desert with thies two? I have looked at the mob list that Allakhazam has. There is a far amount of level 30 mobs to be hunted. So I think I’d be ok.?

Another question that came to mind is the con system. I think if the mob is the same level as me it cons white, one or two levels above is a yellow con, and up is a red con. If some one could shed some light on this that would be great. I have just never worried about it before…

Okay last question what is the best way for us to travel to the Scarlet Desert with out asking for Ports and such. I don’t mind a boat ride or walking a few zones. It takes me back to the good-O-Days lol.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

A 24 pally would have a helluva time in Scarlet Desert. Best wait til your 35 or so to venture there.

Yup thats pretty much it. White is even con, yellow is 1 to 2 lvls above you, and red is 3+ lvls above.

Well there are no more boats....Its really a pain in the *** to run there to be honest, but the quickest route would be through Fungus Grove I think. Problem with this is that neither your pally or cleric have invis (so you'll need to buy lots of potions)

There's no "easy" way to Scarlet Desert without porting. I'd just suck it up and ask for a port with the good news being that you can sell, bank and restock in Katta and/or Twilight Sea. Bring your spells for the next few levels and you'll be set.

24 is mighty young for Scarlet Desert but the cleric may be able to pretty much solo at the Twilight Sea/SD zoneline with the paladin sucking up xp for a bit as he feebly swings at the mobs Smiley: wink2

FYI, if I had to pick a zone, I'd say to do the Gunthak beach as a "split the difference" between the cleric and paladin.

Just to add: Netherbian is still a hotspot and is great xp at that lvl and can go to 29 or 30 until mobs turn lt. blue.

Unrest is another good option with great xp (and decent loot). You could actually stay in Unrest til around 35 or so.

Well I don't think the lvl 24 pally would get xp when grouped with the cleric (if the cleric is lvl 43). The highest he could group with and get xp would be a lvl 36 IIRC.

You do remember correctly 36 would be max for now. To group with 43 would need to be 29.

Actually your math is a bit off. The highest for a 24 is level 37. The forumula is 1.5 x your level plus 1. The plus one is just a way of rounding. I second the vote for gunthank, Or even Stonebrunt mnts. Both have a xp modifier. On Second thought Lavastorm at that level is good as well. There is a task from the de female at the gypsy camp that asks you to kill undead mobs. Cleric can single pull them the paladin kills them. The cleric can also do some work near the don zone lines for exp.

As a wizard, I loved the Scarlet Desert when I was about level 40 if I could persuade anyone to go there : ) It was quiet, with no trains, and different looking, with red cliffs.
The various tribes are not hard to kill.

Later (53) I soloed in Tenebrous mountains (lots of snare & j-boots run room) on the other side of Katta Castellum. Have also joined in raids in SSRA, from the Grey [airless] from Scarlet Desert.

I can confirm there is a zoneline to Fungus Grove in Twilight Sea (you can levi/swim across from TS to the Scarlet Desert nearby). It zones magically into the upper level of a castle in Twilight Sea. The run through Fungus would be perilous though - at level 40 I had a lifespan of less than a minute in there. Pity you don't have Improved Invis... but by then you would only be sightseeing in Scarlet.

I recommend making friends with a level 29 or higher wizard or druid and asking nicely for ports to Twilight Sea. Alternatively, ports to Grimling Forest on the other side of Katta (via Tenebrous Mts)- there is a way to run to Grimling but I don't know it. You can certainly make plenty of platinum to cover teleport costs by collecting acrylia from Grimling Forest or the adjacent Acrylia Caverns.

Unless it has been updated in the last 4 months you will need to download these Luclin maps at www.eqtoolbox.com (they include handy markings & traps in LDONS).

Wherever you go, enjoy : )

I leveled from 49-60 in SD so 26 seems way to low

There's the "long way around" path. It's technically the "normal" mmethod of travel, with Fungus Grove being a dangerous shortcut.

The old way (pre-pop) was to go to Paludal Caverns. Travel back and along the right side, straight across a bridge, take a right, then a left, through a pool, then wander a bit (It's been a long time since I took this route, but interestingly enough it was the "first" route I found through PC on the first day of Luclin release). You come out in a small watery cave in Hollowshade Moor. Alternatively, if you just stay right in PC instead of crossing the bridge, there's a route that will take you to Shadeweaver Thicket. From there, you can travel through Shar Vahl and into Hollowshade Moor.

Obviously, with Pop, just take the Shar Vahl book to Shadeweaver Thicket. Travel through Shar Vahl to HSM. Much faster. From HSM, travel along the path, over a couple bridges to the far corner where there's a tunnel that takes you to Grimling Forest.

For completenesses sake, run straight through Grimling forest, keeping the canyon to your left until you hit the far zonewall (you'll see a waterfall slightly to your left). Hang a right. Duck through a stone archway. You'll see a Grimling camp in front of you, but you can take a sharp right into a tunnel that takes you to Tenebrous Mountains. From there, you can follow the left zonewall relatively safely (have to duck around the two grimling caves) and to Katta. That leads to Twilight Sea, which leads to Scarelet Desert. If you want to do the full loop, you could travel to the far side of the desert and enter The Grey. From there, angle 45 degrees to the left and you'll find the tunnel to Mons Letalis (don't forget to bring an EB for traveling through the Grey though. Run through there to Marus Seru, then to Netherbian Lair, then back to the nexus on the other side.

Yeah. Luclin has a lot of running involved. The reason is that there are three cities, but only one of them is a starting city and has a pop book. Seru is not that terribly far to go. Katta is a huge run though. Fortunately, there are ports to a number of zones. Twilight Sea and Grimling forest both can be ported to, so getting a druid or wizard is a good idea....

Those stone guys have really resists though. I HATE fighting them... Marus Sarus is a really cool looking desert though. :)

The loot in MS is kinda crappy also. I guess the rockhopper hides can be handy, but the rest of the mobs only drop the uncommon words/runes/etc.

Another zone you might find fun would be tower of frozen shadow. Alot of undead mobs there, plus it has some decent loot.
