Are you referring to the levels listed in Alla's equipment info? The "Level to Attain" is supposed to be an average group level to go in and kill/quest the item; the "level to use" is an ingame hardcoded restriction to prevent twinking.

Level to attain is just a subjective 'guess'.

You are right. I made a full set of Expert's gear at level 30 but had to wait until I was 35 to wear it. Having Level to Attain=45 is too high. For some armors you can easily obtain everything you need to craft them by BUYING. As long as you have the skill, voila...

For some crafted armors you need to obtain drops that only a character of a certain level could resonably obtain. That's why you see 'Level to obtain = such and such' You should be level 45+ to obtain Thurgadin armor, but since there is no level restriction, theoretically a level 1 could obtain and wear it.

Items where you need to travel to the planes to get, you will find level > 45 to obtain.

I am trying my best to go through the game with out begging, nor farming to much (will make one pass throught a good pp area on way to do something) I guess that my point is with all the running back and forth to do the quest, by the time I get to a Lv to be able to get the stuff to make it. The armor I get is so so. Case in point I just finished the Journeymans armor quest (at lv 31) and when I make the armor with out augs. It is not as good as armor that 90% of my peers are wareing. There are like 30 aug slots which is nice but where is a non twinked lv32 Pal going to get enough augs to make a difference. No one is doing DoNs at lv 30-40 on my server to make getting the aug's easier.
I will do these for the experence of it. I just think that SOE could make it better by either increasing the stats on the journyman/expert/master armor to make it kinda uber for the lv you can accually make this suff or leave the armor alone and make getting the stuff required to make it a little easier. my 2c

I don't think you can start the DoN missions until 45+. Even so, hardly no one does DoN missions at all until 60+

It's very important to note that with the DoN crafted armor, it isn't "complete" until you put the diety specific aug in it. Those are crafted also. They make a HUGE difference in the stats on the armor. For example:

Journeyman's Wayguard Cuirass
AC +22
STR/STA +2
WIS/INT/AGI +1
SVR/D/C/P/M +1
HP/MANA/END +5

Add the Journeyman's Chest Symbol of Growth and it becomes:

AC +22
STR/STA +5
DEX/CHA +3
WIS/INT/AGI +4
SVR/D/C/P/M +2 (k, not a big increase there)
HP/MANA/END +20

The only dropped component you need to get for that aug are the warbone chips, and I think you could do that easily. The aug trivs at smithing 139. The cuirass trivs at... 139.

It may seem like there's not a huge difference in stats between the augged and unaugged versions of that BP, but it IS the lowest DoN crafted BP you can make. The differences become MUCH more noticeable with the higher level armors. Could you buy a better BP in the bazaar? Of course. But it's still not really all that difficult to do, and the gear isn't that bad, at least IMO.

I usually decide whether to use DoN armor based on AC.

Plate for example, the Journeyman's is a tad inferior to LDoN crafted (Gothic Steel for example) AC-wise. Once you get to Expert's though, the AC from the armor, and the stats gain from the augs make it very attractive, not to mention the 2 extra aug slots. You CAN put those LDoN dropped augs into slot 12 by the way.

You can also put Expert's (or any) slot 11 Augs into Journeyman's armor (and vice versa). My wood elf can make Master's Armor, but does not quite have the skill for the augs (or the patterns yet). She has one peice of Master's level armor (with the higher AC and a few more stats) with the Expert's Augment.

Absolutely not! You can't get the expert quest because you're not level 35. Likewise, you need to be 55 to make Master and 65 to make Grandmaster (you can't make the armor until you're high enough level to wear it).

Just to clear things up.

The level restrictions are for the quests to get the AUGMENT patterns. Tradskill NPC wont give you these quests until you reach the required level.

I am pretty sure you can get the quest for the Armor Pattern book at level 15 maybe even earlier. And yes you can make ANY tier of armor from these patterns. You just need the ingredients.

You can have more than one tier's augment pattern book too. I would seriously doubt you would want to have all those patterns taking up bank/inventory space though.
