Damage ShieldFollow

I've been looking for the answer to this for a while now. Once a long time ago I was camping KC with my monk with an exp group in the hand room. It just so happened to also be the 6th anniversary. Anyways, we got the Fabled Hangnail to spawn (albeit unintentionally and unbeknownst of its power at the time) and we proceeded to get royally boned. Luckily, another higher level group came along and slaughtered it for us and I happily received the Fabled Elder Spiritist Gauntlets (with their permission, of course) and, not being level 55 yet, was eagerly awaiting being able to use them.

Fast forward about 4 months, my monk finally hits 55 after an extended hiatus of play and I put the gloves on. The first thing I'm looking for? +3 damage to all mobs that hit me. What I got? Nothing noticable. I asked my groupmates what all that jazz was about and whether or not it was a traditional DS or a "shield from damage" type of thing. Somebody responded simply that it "shielded damage" and left it at that. I couldn't find any more information about it.

So I've surfed the boards here extensively and found nothing on the subject. Can anybody care to explain how "+3 Damage Shield" works on items? Thanks.

*Added link for the lazy peeps.

Oh, alright, thanks. That seems a little odd though.

As pfunk said, you have to have another DS to base add it too. If you have a bard in your group, that's usually taken care of. If you have a druid or ranger, they'd probably be willing to keep you DS'd, but would get tired of it quickly if you weren't tanking.

If you wanted to use the effect (3 DS isn't really that much to tell the truth) while soloing, you could get something like Ro's Breath and get the added effect, but that's a pretty expensive toy. There may be other DS clickies out there, I just don't know what they are.

You outta consider doing the coldain ring quests? It gives you a instant click 8hp damage shield with unlimited charges. I was able to solo every bit of the quest. I was level 65 at the time.

You can look the quest up under eastern wastes.

I'm familiar with all of these quests, but thanks guys.

I know 3 DS isn't much, but it's just a nice, extra flavor to have =D

I use this on my warrior and shaman.

10 Dose Kilva's Skin of Flame

But this is probably cheaper in the longer run (the Coldain ring mentioned previously).

Coldain Hero's Insignia Ring

I prefer the potion due to the extra amount of damage you can get from that shield.

The worn DS adders require a 'real' damage shield to be up before they work so that you can get rid of your damage shield without having to remove the item. That way you can click off your spell-based DS if you don't want to run the risk of doing damage (useful against summoning creatures esp. if you are pulling and a few other cases as well).

Did I see this correctly? You soloed the 8th ring war at 65? Details please.

Getting the eighth ring is no big deal it is very easy to solo up to the nineth. Of course a Warrior may need just a little help with the 6th or 7th which ever the escape and escort is. During the escort once the Giants spawn tag the dwarf and head north (I think)to the water. Root the dwarf and camp to clear agro. Relog on and catch up to the dwarf if root broke he will be headed to the coldain camp to the east along the shore line and complete quest.

8th ring start the war invis and run into Orc fort inside East wall I belive Pull the Orc cheif with range weapon if you are 63 and above it will be a single pull. Loot the head invis and run out and up to the Coldiam army to the north. Once the quest NPC addresses the army you can turn in the head and get the 8th ring.
