ok so my situation is this:

i've played EQ off and on since it first came out way long ago (can't even remember when...awhile ago, as we all know haha)

anyways, haven't been playing for a few months, but i've still been reading the forums and staying updated on what has been going on. from what i read it seems that most old world zones and the old starting towns are basically deserted?

lots of server merges and stuff too, i see

i was wondering, if i create a new character, what would be the best server to start on? perhaps the one with the most people or guilds looking for lowbies? any suggestions on which server would be most friendly for creating a new character would be great! just looking for a place where i would stand a chance to maybe find a group every now and then

thanks everyone!

I believe Maelin Starpyre is the only remaining "newbie preferred" server-post merges. I know the free trial people get shuffled off to some other server though. I want to say Quellious?

thanks! :)

what do you think of the game in general? i mean, i know there are obviously less new people starting and not many old people creating new characters, so what are the chances these days of finding pick up groups?

all around, will it be possible to create a group oriented character such as a cleric?

The world has gotten bigger and more complex. The player population is real small and made up of uber types mainly.

EQ1 these days is a desert unless you join a guild. During some parts of the day nobody is around for zones in all directions.

Having a guild keeps the game interesting.

Watch out for expansions. There are lots and they aren't cheap. Plus, the monthly price has been jacked up at least twice recently.

Years ago you could get away without an expansion or two. These days you can't do much of anything with your guild unless you have all the expansions.

which has been true for the past 2 years. and it always will be, cause you will always have peak and off peak.

the monthly price has not been jacked up twice, but once. and I still consider it being cheap.

you sound like you want a game with full zones 24*7, pay 5 dollars a month and have the expansions for free? why not try anarchy online?

PS: those uber types alts I usually like to play with. cause they mostly know what they're doing.

to the OP:

serverchoice wise, I suggest either Povar (my main at the mo), MS, or Drinal. in the end it doesn't really matter though, as long as you pick a class which can solo well.
pickup groups? sure, did LDoN's on sunday. and ony one asshat per group (which is not bad).
as to the cleric, well, my brother gets groups on Povar all the time. but, he is fun guy to hang out with. are you?

Edit: typo

You may went to try Quellious as well. We have the "joy" of being the only choice of server for the free trial at the moment so there us quite a few newbies running around.

Since the merger the server itself is pretty busy and a good crowd for the most part.

I tried the trial and ended up on Quellious, so I am quite happy. From the tutorial to almost level 20 I have had groups if I wanted them. I choose a necro for thos oft times I wanted to solo for a bit.
