So, I have a slight problem.

I am a 52 Paladin with a Blade of Disruption and a Brightstar Buckler.

Even at this level, with this combo, my DPS is nice, as I am sure you can understand. Not on the level of a Ranger or a Rogue, but nice for a Paladin.

So, I don't mess with 2HS a whole lot. I have the skill maxed for my level, but there is such a huge loss of stats if I change it up that it never winds up working out to my benefit.

That being said, I have quested for (and have) both Ghoulbane and SoulFire.

So, out of curiosity, I looked up the quest for the Fiery Avenger, and found, to my surprise, how close I actually am to getting it. I know that FA is not FD, but it's one more step.

The problem:

1.) I'll NEVER use the thing.
2.) In order to create the Book of Scale, I cannot pass 52nd level, which means I'm grinding AA's, in the General field, which really doesn't have any defensive-type AA's.

SO, I ASK:

Would YOU guys do your epic, basically for the sake of having it, even though you would never use it, or would you say "***** it" and continue on, never looking back?

I have another toon who already has his Epic. Essentially, I wouldn't mind knowing that I had 2 chars with Epic, but if I would never use it, it almost seems a waste of time...

Any and all thoughts are appreciated...

Thanks, all.

Thing is, you could stay at lvl 52 for another 6 months and still not get your Book of Scale. Unless perhaps there are a lot of pickup naggy/vox raids on your server. I would suggest just moving on.

There are other kunark dragons that can drop the books you need but are quite rare to find up. The only real reason these days to pursue the pally epic 1.0 is to skip the pre-quest for 1.5/2.0.

So, can you, or anyone else explain how the level limit works? Is it only on Naggy? (I would look this up myself, but the beastiary is inaccessible at my work, although the forum still works.) /shrugs

Naggy & Vox are the only lvl limited dragons. Other dragons such as Gorenaire, Severilous, Talendor (?) can drop the books as well (prolly spelled all those wrong...too lazy to look em up).

Well, you have to ask yourself what is your main goal in the long run. Are you in position where you can do the alternate quests for your epic? Do you even have the epic as one of your goals? I finally got sick of trying to get the books and decided I'd never have an epic. Guess what? I've regretted the decision ever since.

The way I see it is you have several choices:

1. Work on General AA's and try to get into Vox/Naggy Raids.
2. Forget about the books and keep leveling and then do the alternate quest for Epic 1.5 and 2.0.
3. Try to buy the Book of Scale.

As far as Vox/Naggy raids. They are very difficult to get unless you have a group of people who regularly do them or belong to a guild who kills them on a regular basis. I've been on several raids back in the day and never won the books. Decided to level up and do Kunark dragon's.

Now then, if you keep leveling, like I did, you're going to have to find the people who kill the Kunark dragons on a regular basis and hope your around when one is up. To date I have never seen the dragons and finding the dragon farmers is almost impossible as no one openly acknowledges the spawn time for fear of losing it.

You can try to buy the book from the permafarmers but if you find one for sale it will more than likely cost an arm and a leg. I have yet to see one for sale but if I did I'd probably have to take up prostitution as a hobby to pay for it.

Because of the difficulty I would love to get the Fiery Avenger. Even though I would never actually use it, I'd just like to be able to say "You see... I busted my **** and did it". For me the paladin epic, specifically the Fiery Avenger part is a testament to the type of players we are.

On the other hand, if you are in an uber raiding guild then you could just forget about the Fiery Avenger and just do the Alernate Quest and not waste time on the FA. At this point, at least for me, I 'll wait until my guild reaches raiding mode and then I'll try to go for it.

Anywho, I'll stop rambling now. Do whatever you feel is right but I'd at least try for Vox and Naggy before moving on. Good luck,

If you are over level 52 you can not fight Vox or Naggy. If you try to attack or if you try to assist someone fighting you get ported out.

Here are the dragons from Kunark that you'd need for the Torn Burnt Book:

Severilous
Talendor

For the Torn Frost Covered Book:

Gorenaire
Faydedar

I am a level 52 Paladin, and I have been for the past 4 months or so. I'm not exactly in your shoes, though, because the FD is a definite upgrade for me. I haven't looked at the FA so much.

I have managed to get the Torn, burnt book after several Naggy pickup raids, but I'm still trying for the Torn, frost covered book from Vox, and even after that the Miragul spawn is supposed to be another great pain.

My main point in replying, though, is to say that you can remain level 52 for a while, getting AA experience for Run3 and Regen, trying to get in as many Vox raids as possible. You can also work on the FD quest. I have already completed all of it except the very final turn in, which requires the FA. That way when (if?) you get the FA you will already be ready to do the final turn in and get your Epic 1.0.

In other words, you can continue working on the epic quest even while waiting for Vox to spawn. (Yes, I know I am long winded. Smiley: tongue )
