I spend the majority of my time in groups with my friends. We have a "friend channel" that we all autojoin when logging in. Since we are all in separate guilds this is an excellent way for us to keep in touch. I spend most of my time with this small group of great people. We have fun with whatever we're doing (usually exp grps and dons). It's common to laugh so much that my side hurts from the banter and jokes going on while playing. This is what EQ should be all about and I recommend this system to anyone that plays. =)

We sould be able to 2 or 3 choices.
While I picked soloing, I also quest & tradeskill at the same time. I do group and raid too but can't always stay on long enough to get a whole lot done. :)

you don't have grinding down =/

and I agree 2-3 choices would be better.....I spend most of the time raiding, grinding(meh wizzy or alts) or boxing named mobs the time is spent close to equally.

I usually end up soloing, although I try to "socialize" in guild chat. It seems that my regular play times don't quite synch up with the rest of the people I know. I also enjoy tradeskilling and have been known to join a pickup group or two.

Well after the PvP servers were merged it seems all my friends from the past 5 years have scattered to other servers or quit playing. I find myself searching for the EverQuest I use to love to play. Every 6-months I tend to jump to another server in search of the past.

Yes a past where people were busy having fun in groups not looking for a group.

Yes a past where you would join a group that had a 6 : 6 people to PC ratio -vs- the boxed abortion of personality group ratio of 3 : 6 you tend to find now days.

Yes searching for a past when you played your character exploring new zones instead of playing an Orc with your name and none of the awesome skills & gear that took years to obtain.

Yes I search for the past when you could join a raid guild without filling out a F.B.I. background check , credit check , Updated Magelo account , Ventro acct. + mic & headset. Signed Affidavit stating you will be online 50 hours/week and 3 credited , guilded sponsors with completed sponsor reports apps. submited to the Secure web site in triplicate before becoming a trial member on a 90 raid probation period.

Yes a past that gave feelings of hope and fear as you rolled the dice for a item drop. Not the annoying feeling one gets pondering the complex re-alignment of 12 different types of augment slots filled with 12 different augments should you choose to roll on the new item.

ECT... ( I could go on and on but I just lost interest. see below )

I tend to log on for 30 min then camp for the night due to a lack of interest.

For my first year or so in EQ I spent most of my time soloing.

Then after Velious I started doing a lot of pick-up groups.

Later, after Luclin, I spent about 18 months doing mainly friends list and guild groups.

During LDoN era I did countless pick-up groups.

Now I mostly duo with my girlfriend.

The whole 6 years I have also quested and explored, and I've done my share of tradeskills.

Stop trying to live in the past, it never works. Trust me, I know. I traveled across the country in hopes of reliving the past and found nothing. A wise man once said "You will have a hard time steering your boat if your always looking at the wake".

I was like you once, bitter and angry and the game was no fun for me. When I decided to come back to eq I decided that I would change my attitude and avoid all the pitfalls that had ruined my game in the past. And today I'm having more fun then ever. Within 5 mins of logging on I always find a group. I have all new friends. I'm in a great guild that didn't need a background check to join.

Oh, and lighten up on the monster missions. MM's alow you to group with younger guildies and get some AA in the process. You might dismiss the lower levels but what I've seen is really good teamwork, the same type of teamwork that you see in organized raiding.

Derailment over....nudging train back on to the tracks...

What do you spend most of your in-game time doing?:

I'm always grouping, from the time I log on till I go to sleep. Sometimes I do MM's, sometimes other things.

I'll be 2-boxing soon, just waiting on a new DSL modem. The problem is I just bought a new computer and the Win XP Pro 64 doesn't recognize my old modem. =/

I voted for grouping with friends/guild, but I probably spend just as much time socializing. It drives my kids crazy that I log onto EQ, just to visit with my friends. :) I can sit in the guild hall for hours just chatting in tells, channels and /gu. /rofl

totally agree with a few of these posts , ok so yeah i solo a fair bit but as a druid am always available for a quick port from here to there ,with guildies or just about anyone that asks , so it would have made more sense to be able to pick 3 or 4 of them , then just being put in one slot as if thats all you do from log in to log out .

I am a part time gamer due to my job. I 've been EQ'ing for almost four years and my main toon is just getting thru his 40's.

Alot of time is spent farming. Yes folks, killin' all those greenies to get the stuff to make the stuff you need to make the gear you need.

Just to raise your skill level. To make more useless stuff.
"You can't use the gear you've made. Only a Newbie would drool over it. Hell, the vendors won't even give ya enough plat to recover your losses. Why not sell it in the bazaar? BAH!! Who buy a pair of Chain-mail Boots, AC 2, no stat mods? NO-ONE!!! And believe me, as a 65 drood-haffer I am spending THOUSANDS of PLAT to get my tailoring up. To make the stuff that PC's WILL buy in the bazaar." (Ogitchida, 65 Halfling Druid)

Rant over

So, you see, leveling TS's is prolly the most time consuming part of the game. How about making it worth-while....SONY!!!!!

[Rant on]On my server there just isn't many peps in my lv range. Groups are few and far between. I lfg almost everytime I go on and announce lfg on general1 and "pok ooc" I "/ " every zone when I come in and actively search for groups. about all I ever find is a single wiz mage or chanter that need a tank to keep the alive. I have not been able to find one LDoN since DoDH came out. and the Monster Mission seemed to have been nerfed already when it comes to XP Last night I did two in butcher block and got a combined 12-13% xp in an hour and 45 Min In that same time in gunthak or ToFS I could have had 25-30% easy soloing. [Rant off] I love this game and as soon as I hit my 50's I will start finding more to group with.

suzycue lol.. sorry my friend took ur name HAHAHA i wonder if i have really been playign that long.
well if i have u can see when SOE joined the mid-level content was krappy so i never got past it LOL.
but my friend left terris thule to join the english one and i had to start new on terris, cuz i cant leave my old home. ahh those were tha dayz, when i sat in east commons at the tunnel to Ro, pulling random things and having instant backup.. lol the amount of auctioners i annoyed.
BRING BACK THE EAST COMMONS AUCTIONS!
BRING BACK THE PEOPLE WHO USED TO PLAY!

I was glad to see the Ecom auctions go. It was mostly a waste of time to try to collect rusty wpns and junk to sell to vendors and maybe get lucky with a 30p high quality bear hide and then try to sell junk and buy junk by each item or looking in ppl's bags. The lag there was very bad and almost cut out camping the orc campsites and stuff. I dont miss that at all. Many ppl I know just sold their loots from EJ or whereever to the vendor instead of standing around in ECom hawking it. There were many ppl just buying and re-selling stuff because many ppl couldn't stand being there for more than 10 minutes and would sell off their stuff cheap just to get out of the zone. Many times I would see something I needed bad like ivy bracers for my ranger or something and some pally would jump to the trade before I could purchase it and then I would see him auctioning it after a markup.
Ppl seemed to have fun training Sgt Slaughter to the tunnel all day long also. I was ok faction with him but I heard shouts constantly from upset ppl
There were a lot more scams going on back then too. My most memorable loss was my first toon and was when I was lvl 2 and spent 10p of very hard earned money for a fine steel wpn that turned out to be a rusty wpn. I hunted tonz of rats and gnoll pups and saved up the coppers until I had a whopping 10p. I was upset until somebody gave me some free +2 agi earrings just outside blackburrow on the path. :( hehe
It will be six years in December for me and I enjoyed all the expansions. I started out soloing for everything, then moved to occasional pickup groups, then went to almost 100% tradeskilling, then went to guild groups exclusively, then did the antonica armor quests exclusively (got my lvl 12 shaman up over 100 in several skills, funded through sow and binds at the freeport gates). Then I started an alt of every different type of character to see which one I enjoyed the most. Had to do that over two different servers and two different accounts since not enuf slots in one place to do that.
Ended up with bard character on 7th hammer server and now mostly do pickup groups with occasional raids.
As a side note, might upset some ppl, I was the one that found out how to dupe items and reported it to Verant. Proved it to them when I turned one Wurmslayer into two. They fixed the problem but it involved slow zoning with a slow computer that not only warped the toon to a safe spot in the zone but reset him to the last saved instance. How I did it was zone into ecom, give my Wurmslayer to somebody. He leaves the zone with it and keeps it, and I leave the zone, get warped, and still have it. How I found it out was when I zoned into ecom, immediatly bought something, zoned, warped and no longer had the item but had my money back instead. Sent the person a tell and he said he had the money i gave him still also. I never got any year of free service or anything but I was paranoid that I would be banned if I didnt turn myself it!!!!! I was such a newb. hehe

Agreed. I miss the EQ of 6 years ago to a very bad extent. I quit my 69 necromancer because I have found *nothing* I can do that interests me without an elite, must-be-on-48-hours-of-the-day (exaggeration) guild. I've solo'ed Terror in PoFear, I've soloed my epic 1.5 up til Viarglug, I've soloed every piece of my 1.0 (which I still to this day wield for sheer representation of the old days), etc. Anything a casual player has done I've done. And what finally made me quit was when I spent over a half an hour in Crushbone remembering the days and not a single soul passed through. That place used to be flooded with people arguing over camps; I ran through and killed every named, because they were all up. Blackburrow / Unrest trains are a myth to me at this point; you'd be lucky to find anyone in there that isn't a monster. Fear armor is only worth the gems you get from it, etc. Everything short of Omens, DoN, and Darkhollow is outdated. One could ask where the end game fun went, and all I have to reply is "OoW, DoN, or Darkhollow groups only plz"

Yes, EXACTLY my thought and what my choices would have been.

I'm a trade skill fanatic, but I hate to farm greenies .. so I almost never do :)
#26 Oct 08 2005 at 4:19 PM Rating: Decent
90% of all the new content requires a high level group, if not raid group. Here is why that is making EQ suck for a big bunch of us:

PlayerA (Ooc): Guild X is looking for some high level toons, level 60+ for good clean family fun, PST if interested.
Me (Tell): Hi, I am interested, but I only play maybe about 10-12 hours a week, mainly on weekends
PlayerA (Reply to tell): Sorry, but we are only looking for players who play over 25+ hours a week to do some raiding and things.

Player B (Ooc): Guild Y is now recruiting all level 70's for some serious raiding. Must have at least 200 AA and have comnpleted your 1.5 epic.
Me: /sigh

Sony needs to start doing something to eliminate this before it becomes an "Uber Only" game. The people who have a life or a job are being left behind because the old zones that require groups simply are not there and where you used to be able to find some pickup groups to level up, it is getting tougher because the only people who are in the mid-level zones are either the uber guilds or two boxers powerlevelling themselves (Lazy if you ask me).
