A few questions...Follow

#1 Oct 12 2005 at 6:29 PM Rating: Decent
I downloaded Escape to Norrath and enjoyed it, so I'm thinking about getting the full game, but I have a few questions.

1. Are the graphics in EtN from one of the recent expansion packs? I have a crappy computer, so using the models from EtN causes the graphics card to overheat (it's fine if I use old eq character models though).

2. If I used the graphics that Eq had when it first came out when I play, would I have to use that god awful interface with the inventory/stats on the left and right side of the screen?

3. Is EtN a good way to tell if the full version will run well on my computer? It takes about five minutes to load the game after I select my character, and possible longer when I enter the mines after escaping from the prison (when you first make your character).

4. How often would I have to zone when I play the game?

Thanks in advance.

Yes.

www.eqinterface.com - you can move all the windows, or completely re-skin the UI.

It takes me a few minutes to get in when I do.

Yes, those are recent expansion graphics and models, some of the "classic" zones will be less grpahically intense. You can also turn off shadows, complex sky, "new" water and other deluxe elements.

You zone.. hrm.. depends on how (and where) you play:

Scenario one: zone 2-5 times.. stay in that zone for 5-30 minutes. Repeat all night.

Scenario two: zone a 2-5 times.. stay in that zone for an hour or two. Zone once.. zone back in, hour or two.

Scenario three: zone 2-5 times.. stay in that zone for 4-8 hours and grind.

I bet I zone 20 times on the average night.. and most of those are in the first 20 and the last 20 minutes.

The graphics are the same although some zones are better than others. You can always go into the options screen before you log in and turned down the graphics detail and other things to make it run a little faster. In game hit Alt-O to bring up the options window and turn down the clip plane and go to the advanced options and turn off water and lower the dynamic update interval. There are other things as well; just play with the options a bit and you should be ok.

No, you can use the new interface and even go to www.eqinterface.com and get a better one. Some functionality requires some of the new graphics, most notable is the ability to use a mount.

3. Is EtN a good way to tell if the full version will run well on my computer? It takes about five minutes to load the game after I select my character, and possible longer when I enter the mines after escaping from the prison (when you first make your character).
Loading and playing are sort of separate issues. Worry more about performance in the zones than the load time between them. Felicite is right in saying that most loading happens early and late in your game session.

4. How often would I have to zone when I play the game?
A lot. Depends on where you are going of course. Some zones are a bugger to get to without help from a porter (Druid or Wizard). Others are very easy to get to from the Plane of Knowledge. Don't let it keep you from joining though.
Thanks in advance.

Buy the Platinum version at a minimum. That will get you the most bang for the buck in terms of expansions and get you the Planes expansion which will make traveling much easier for you.
