Greetings:

Are there any plans to address the page stalling that seems to occur most of the time when trying to view spells, items, quests, etc.?

In case there are those that don't see this, the majority of the time that I come to this site, it renders the main banner, the left side, then stalls when actually displaying data. The really crazy one, is the Item Lookup page, which can take 3 or more retries just to get the search text box to show up. Then many more retries just to get the search to fire.

I am sorry if this is not the place to post this, but I have read the descriptions for Tech Support and Forums, etc. and none of them sound right.

Sounds to me like you could have background spyware programs etc. I usually don't have a problem using these features.

My roomates and I experiance the same problems. Its only this site too, which makes me think its maybe bandwidth or something like that. Every other site comes up fast for me.

I tend to think that it is the banner ads. People with a premium membership do not see those. I have a the same problem too. When I check the problem it seems to (85%+ of the time) have to do with either banner ads and or popups. I am to cheap/poor to sign up for premium. If I am wrong please correct me.

Just my two cents.

It is definitely a result of the pop up ads & what seems to be numerous scripts that run on this site.

I don't mind single pop-ups (per page view) because I have a choice of premium membership or popups. I do mind the poorly written scripts and multiple popups per page view. In addition, I doubt the administrators of this site are writing the scripts themselves. So, they are placing a lot of trust in the advertising providers to not provide malicious scripts.

There are ways of blocking the popups and preventing the scripts from running, but I'm got going to undermine the administrators attempts to make a living. If you want to block them, there browsers & plugins for those browsers that work.

Well, I'm a premium user and I get similar results to the original poster.

Clicking on Item Lookup often takes 3-5 seconds to open, but I never have problems getting results once I put in an item and click on search.

Another really bad one for me is the bestiary, but I always thought this was that Illia might not have same resources for bandwidth, not to mention the massive size that database has probably grown to these days.

Everquest forum and Quest forum usually open right up for me. Spells often has the delay too.

I am a premium user and I too have noticed absolutely horrible stall times while the database searches for answers to my queries. This has been going on long enough that I am sure they are aware of the problem and have decline to address it. I for one do not plan to renew my premium subscription with such a poorly performing site. There are enough other sites now that Alla can either fix the clunky database or expect a serious decline in premium subscriptions.

I'm sure he's heartbroken.

I for one have no problems with the site. I'd hate to have to go somewhere else for the info that I can get right here.

See this exact same thread on the WoW site. You are not alone, there are tons of people experiencing the exact same problem. The majority, including myself, are premium subscribers. I tend to agree with the people who think it's the bandwith for this site.

Frakkor.

Well I'm sure glad things work well for you. And anyone running a business is normally very heartbroken when customers are dissatisfied. However, we are all indescribably heartened by your incredibly insightful display of philosophical prowess. By all means keep posting such vital and profound thoughts for us all to benefit from. I have no doubt that your wisdom will be recorded for posterity and immortalized upon something metal and expensive.

Wow, sarcasm IS fun!

No, sorry, this is on 6 different computers, 3 at home, 3 at work, and our anti-virus/spyware apps are fairly hardcore.

This is a server-side issue.

I am a Premium member, so I see no ads or banners or popups. Plus Ad Block would eat any of those ads.

I am premium and usually site runs fine. Sometimes it gets very sluggish, and may stay that way for a while. Mostly it's good for me, and thus they keep me as a premium member. I use this site all the time. I wouldn't play EQ without it up for quick reference.

I also have the same problems at work or at home and I am a premium subscriber. The weird thing is that I have found the fastest way to search for something is to type in the item description, click search, then as soon as the item # shows up in the explorer address bar I click refresh. 9 out of 10 times the page I was searching for immediately pops up.

I'm not super savvy on the tech side, but I would also guess it is a bandwidth issue. This problem is pretty much nonexistant on the weekdays at 3 am PST, but sometimes pretty bad on weekend evenings during primetime.

It is annoying at times, but I was on the internet before Al Gore invented it, so I've dealt with much worse.

That must be blasphemy, as how could you possibly get on it before Al invented it, or maybe you have a faulty memory, or maybe it's déjà vu, and it just seems like you were there before. Anyway, watch it.

Smiley: disappointed

/edit Do you think we will have a whole generation who does think he invented it?

I don't think heartbroken is the correct word here. Disappointed, maybe. Concerned, more likley. Heartbroken, no.

Yes, that is the behaviour I am seeing. If a search is not coming in about 20 seconds, its faster to Stop and Refresh 3 or 4 times.

That can't be good for the web servers and the DB. Anyone?

Same problem - I just chalked it up to my shoddy internet connection.

Oh, and my all time favorite "Document contains no data" when navigating around the site.

There are occasions and times of the day when Alla's comes to a complete halt. Access the site from work and from home. I am premium as well.

My question to the coders of the site. When a premium user makes a page request, does the site try to access an ad and just not show it?

The reason for this question is I have had times on a site like Yahoo where they have ads coming from a bunch of places and some will not load and hang a page but if you refresh and its a different ad the page loads rocket fast.

It's probably down to not wanting to spend any money on more servers to run the database, presume they use sql, and coining it in with subsciptions and advertising.

Exact same thing here and it seems to be getting worse weekly. As you said I am sure they are aware of the problems. Didn’t they switch to new servers a while ago?

Been a long time premium subscriber but using Allakhazams lately has become increasingly frustrating.

Any information on correcting this problem would be helpful

I too have been a Premium subscriber for 2+ years now an I am having the same sluggish performance on this site as well. One would think that with the membership fee's that are paid, that the site would perform at a more acceptable rate. Its very discouraging at the least.

Same thing here. Very slow performance. Three different computers all with anti spyware. Everything just loads really slow.
