On the "New to EQ" thread someone mentioned that PC magazine listed the population of eq and WoW. Was curios if anyone had the actual numbers?

Also Did I miss something or do shammies not get a fixed duration invis spell? Noticed that the other day when invis droppeed on ym shammy and i started thinking i missed a spell but bam looked and have yet to see an "improved" spell for sahmmies?

Not sure about the numbers, but yes, shammy's do get a fixed durration invis at level 67 called spirit veil. Its a self only buff. Here is the link for it Spirit Veil.

Kind of a bummer it not till 67 though, only 7 more levels for me!

looks as if EQ1 is not doing too badly overall. They ahve had a steady growth even if slow since 1999, with only a slight decline since EQ2 came out.
Beside the peak they had at the end of 2004 there doesnt seem to be a serious decline (based on this graph)

WOW these numbers were shocking! I had always thought eq was far and away the most popular game.

Soem things dont seem to fit though. There shows just little dip in rq's population but servers were desolated? Maybe there was a large cross over with eq2 and people didnt cancel they just didnt play?

i wam also shocked how WoW is owning everyone. I wonder if some of these games like WOW and FFXI have large penetration in asian countries that eq and others just cant touch?

Was thinkig about this. Some of the differential between wha tthe numbers say and how deserted the servers are can be attributed to the fact that it was the casual players who left and they were the ones you saw on /lfg.

It doesnt explain however the deserted bazaar and pok. Id bet $50 that eq is counting anyone with a station pass for all 3 games each

Do they get the stats possibly from counting the nuber of paying accounts? Lots of people box 2 or more characters so you would need more than one paying account but the actual human count would be 1. that might explain how the numbers are off

WoW has some 4 million active accounts world wide. Yes, they have a huge Asian market with server sets in Korea, China and Japan. They released a press release a month or two ago when they hit the 4 million mark worldwide. Impressive to say the least.

Also realize that WoW is also played by a younger audience. Sure Everquest had some young players but some of my neighbors have 9 year old kids talking about their characters on WoW.

The site measures subscriber base, not active members.

Also, keep in mind that some of the games, particularly the lineage series, are not widely played outside of their base countries, and others such as ATITD, which I played, have VERY dedicated player bases, although total subscribers appear small.

What kind of game is Lineage? Never played it, but it has a huge part of the pie between 1 and 2.

Lineage looks like Diablo 2.

Oh, fun.

Just keep in mind they get those numbers from the company's press releases (IE marketting tool). I don't trust any marketing by any of those companies.

... Very true. Like I had said earlier the numbers they show for eq after WoW and EQ2 were released just dont match the deserted servers we saw. IM still betting they count every staion pass as a member for each game tripling those numbers.
