I've been playing EQ for more than 5 years. I consider myself a casual player, 2-3 times a week. I haven't bought DoD or DoN because I was very disappointed in GoD and OoW. So i'd like to ask the question, are the latest 2 expansions worth it? Appreciate any comments.

Good question... Since I do not own DoN and probably too low to participate, i'm going to leave that to the professionals.

However, for the monster missions alone i'd say DoD is worth it. It's a blast to team up with a few people for 20 minutes and do the remembrance quest, then sit back for another 25 and just chit chat back and forth. It really has allowed me to enjoy the group experience without the grinding effect, ya know?

Other than that, I haven't traveled too much into the Depths, but with the latest patch improving about 1,000 items... I'd say it looks like it's going to be even moreso worth the investment?

Take what I say with a grain of salt since I thought OoW was one of the better expansions (along with SoV).

If you're casual, DoD is probably very worth while. It allows you to get decent exp and loot for a short time commitment. It may become a bit less advantagrous once the 24/7 players get bored with it though.

I just picked up DoN about 2 weeks ago, and am still getting into it, but I'd have to say it's worth it from what I've seen.

The guild lobby is great. The new cultural armor is better than my VT gear, although if you're going to make it yourself you're in for a lot of tradeskill time. And the DoN adventures give you crystals to use to buy gear and augments. Which are suprisingly good, and not near as expensive as the LDoN adventure gear was. Plus, the crystals are tradeable so you can purchase from other players if you're short for that next upgrade.

I haven't gotten DoD yet, so can't really help ya there.

DoN is worth it for the guild lobby and guild hall alone. In the guild hall all your buffs are suspended and you have portal stones to get even more places quickly, and you have quild bankers. The lobby allows you to summon your corpse, and almost always get a rez from a cleric there. Short, very worthwhile missions are good.

DoD is well worth it to me, as a casual player, just to have all the AA's I've received. Would have been better to buy it before now though. Experience has been cut back on the latest patch, but I can still log on and do something quick when I only have a little while. I wish they had cut back regular exp, and left the aa experience alone, but really it needed something done.

I agree GoD was sucky, but I liked OoW.

Ok so 4 people say expansions are worth it. Any negatives?

Outside of the monster missions, which are super boring but used to give great exp (still give decent exp, but just got nerfed), DoD is mostly for the high-end crowd. The only other good thing out of it for us casuals really is a +10 all stats/resists 50hp/mana/end charm aug that can easily be soloed in a couple hours.

I will back up everyone else's good evaluation of DoN though.

Thanks, Frakkor, I actually have that with a couple stats, had no idea it got that good, bad me for not looking it up. I have the LDoN aug in my charm slot and I have to check it out but don't think it's real great.

Now dumb question. How do you copy something to your map like Elvenwalker says here
#12 Nov 17 2005 at 7:26 PM Rating: Good
all he's doing there is having you edit your map files, (whatever.txt) in the map directory.

A much easier solution is to go over to mapfiend.net and download the latest DoDH maps, which have these spots marked.

Alternatively, you could use /loc and find the waypoints that way. I found that to be easier so I could make sure to watch where I'm going.

Ok will download newest maps. Loc and I do not get along well, even though I know how it works and can use if really really needed.

Omens may have been the single largest boon to non-raiders ever for obtainable goods.

The 66-70 spells are good upgrades (unimaginative to be sure), and most of what I cast today (on all three mes).

So.. if you count Omens of War as a "bad" expansion.. you will likely hate the others.

Dragons of Norrath is LDoN 2.0 with better loot, easier to get. Fresh zones, instanced and regular. The utility of the Guild Lobby/Hall.. I spent 90%+ of my time in DoN Zones and tasks when this came out.

Darkhollow is more than monster missions (I have actually never done one outside of the Mask quest Gods of Olde one). Some (I did say "some") really nice AAs, Spell Research that will benefit everyone in the game, and really accessable tasks and quests.. and some really hard ones. I spend most of my time here, now.. the best rewards for time for me are in DoDH.

DON is good if your 65+. Granted you can use it at lower level, but 9 out of 10 groups are usually looking for 65+ (unless your a cleric of course you can get away with being lower).

DOD is horrible IMO, especially if your a casual player. Monster missions are not worth there time since the massive nerfs and the increase in difficulty done to most of them. The zones themselves are nothing but a bunch of KOS mobs spawned all over the place. Only positive thing I have to show for DOD is the Slipgears charm.

I agree with Felicite... good rule of thumb is to read her comments and count em as gospel.

(ok enuf brownose of her =P not saying she not good but not wanna swell her head too much)

If your a necro who got his coin off doing corpse summons then DoN was bad for you otherwise it was great for everyone, yes including those non coin having necros... most of the time its easier to reinsert with your gear from Guild Lobby then to try and reinsert at zoneline with your body and 180ppish aint bad to have the option over the 50-75 whatever (been so long I forgot =P) of tiny inlaid coffins.

Have to have a Guild for Guild Hall but if you do that adds to its usefulness a lot with the addition of non wearing buffs, guildbank, and one of each kind of tradeskill oven, forge, whatever that no one but your guild can cockblock you on if your into tradeskills. Oh not to mention own aug potion, vendor who sells all the aug removers to save aug and transfer, hot tub which heals and regens mana faster, and for a price porter merchant to pretty much anywhere that a pok book couldnt take you that you could want to go to.

As to DoDh minus the <sigh> PL afk opportunities of the MMS its really all about the end game people and pretty much all that you will get from it is that you arent worthy.

Anyway my 2cp.
