I just clicked a link for an item and it shows that it's an evolving item. Can someone exlplain how an item evolves? what do you have to do? do you have to use it and some of your exp goes to the item? or do you have to have it for a cetrain time peroid?

From my understanding, the item gets experience as you get experience (both normal and AA). When an item "gains a level", it evolves into a slightly better version of that item. There is a final state for each item, and I believe there is a link in the item window to that final evolved version.

Thank you. That would sound so, and it sounds pretty neat, but I take it you must either wear it or wield it. Alrigh thanks for the quick responce.

what's really dumb though is that most of these items are out of reach to the casual player and the weapons starting stats are rather bad and even sometimes the final product isn't much better. I've only seen a few items and most of them go for 50-100k plat plus the mobs they drop off of hit for huge amounts

Some of them can be obtained right in Corathus Creep. That's not out of reach of a casual player. They are very nice items.

Hell, my cleric can solo the creep reapers there.

See This. The whole "SoE hates casual players" claim is getting so tiring.

Hmmm i'll have to check out corathus. I've never actually been there to hunt i've just passed through to get to the MM.

it's only tiring to the ones that have to deal with geting raid level groups to hunt normal xp. I mean most folks are not time flagged right?

I have a newbish question about evolving items... done some quick searches, but can't turn anything reliable. Just got some pants for my wife's druid, the ones from Corathus, can't remember the name though.

Anyway, she's level 55 and has gained about 20% of her level since getting and equipping the item (and making sure it was "activated" in the Evolving Items tab of her inventory) yet the item still shows 0% growth into the level. Do these just take an insanely long time to level up? Or are we doing something wrong?

IIRC they lvl at 1% per AA gained. So the same amount of XP required to gain an AA will give evolving items 1%

There are two types of evolving items out there:

* Normal
These tend to have quite a few levels and gradually get better over time. Example: Remnant of Grokui's Claw.

* Intelligent
These have fewer levels and talk to you. Example: Oizyn, Ring of the Woebegone

Intelligent items take longer to level up, apparently* because a) the devs wanted you to hear everything they had to say and b) there are fewer levels until they attain maximum power.

* Source: a thread on the veterans boards at Sony a few weeks ago.

My experience with Grokui's hammer is that between two and four LB/DB mobs are needed for it to gain 1% - it takes around 5 hours of solid killing in Nadox to boost it by one level. Anecdotal evidence suggests items gain experience based on number of kills rather than the relative difficulty of the monsters you're killing, meaning places like Nadox and Grieg's End are ideal for levelling them.

Nice post Nimbu

finally some info that can be useful :)

I forget the name of hte item my guildie has but it is intelligent and has 3 levels. It took him about 30 aa's to get it to 5% on the first level.

I have yet to get a evolving item. I was about to get a evolving mantle for my monk, but then I won the mantle from the 7th hammer.

Anyways problem with them IMO is they seem to take WAY too long to level up. I mean 1% per AA is way too long. Some of those items have 7 stages before there final, so that is 700 aa's???

I got the Inteligent Shield from Corathus Creep just as I had finaly managed to buy necklace with murk bite focus on it this allowed me to get rid of Insense Burner of Ro I had been useing for awhile.

So I said what the hell ill equip shield and sale burner until I have enough plat to buy a one of the 100+ mana hp shields in bazaar. Sense ive been equiping the shield ive finished out 75% of exp in level 68 and done about 25aa points in that time shield has gained only 49% of exp needed for next level.

As has been said killing large numbers of lite blues and weak dark blue is the only way to level these items with any speed. They seem to go by numbers of mobs killed not by exp value of the mob. I just finished last 20% of level 68 a few hours ago in Fire and shield only gained 4% exp while I was getting that last yellow.

So trying to level these items off high con mobs is almost pointless. The only reason shield is at 49% is because ive spent some time crawling around velks seblis HS and Veskar sense I started equiping shield doing one AA point in veskar at level 68 seemed to be good for about 5% exp on shield while at same time it took three AA in fire to move shield 2%.

Only reason im holding onto shield still is I like the graphic and I think there is a chance it may be upgraded if there isnt a upgrade by time it hits second level its going up for sale. I wonder what bazaar values will be for the items already leveled items?

The shield isn't bad but not much of an improvement over the one by SK is currently using and bought for a mere 10k or so. And which I can't remember the name of and isn't in my Magelo Smiley: rolleyes The vampiric sword you always see for sale is a complete joke even in its final stats compared to 2HS items available for 5-7k in the Bazaar. It doesn't even end up with a 1:1 ratio which is pretty pathetic given the work you need to put into evolving it. The only other item I've seen is a hammer that really wasn't much more impressive.

I guess I'm not ******** about the items as drops so much as wondering who thinks they're worth even a fraction of what people try to sell them for.

I was looking at them merely from a dropped perspective. I agree they are not worth what people are selling them for. Maybe they are taking a premium just because they are 'evolving'.

There is a very nice dagger that can be found in the Undershore.

Twisted Shank

These items are not the best out there, but quite nice for an item that can be grabbed in a simple pickup XP group.

I checked today when I logged in and it was only at 48% not 49% so 20% of level 68 exp in fire leveled shield 3% not 4%.
