I had to stop playing EQ because my video card was obsolete(according to SE help chat room bot thing). Can anyone suggest a cheap one that would work with EQ?

Good video card

I've been told that one will work with EQ, plan on getting one next month so that I can get back into the game.

There's a fantastic post at the Oblivion (upcoming RPG) forums, in which someone listed a ton of cards and their relative strengths/prices. It's the most up-to-date comparison I've seen lately.

Find it here

You don't want a GeForce 5XXX series card. You want a GeForce 6XXX series card or better. The 6600 GT seems to be the present best bang for the buck. Be sure you get the kind that works with your motherboard, AGP or PCI-e.

If you know your way around a PC I would suggest a Radeon card. I love mine but they are very touchy and can cause major problems when installing.

Radeon cards are a headache but worth it IMO.

Have a Radeon X700 in one PC and an NVidia 5500 series in another. The PCIe cards are very fast, and mine isn't finicky at all. The NVidia is actually a bit more fussy. It's adequate, but not as nice as the X700. Either will work just fine, in the end.

Thanks for the help everyone, I'll probably get the one that UndeadShroom suggested because it's cheap and it's in CDN dollars. Finally I get to come back to EQ.

Get a 6600GT, that's by far the best bang for the buck in the GPU market atm (I haven't seen reliable pricing on 6800GS in my country yet, but do check that out if it's at all available!). Anything 5-ish from nVidia is better forgotten, buried and never spoken of again.

If your on a budget I might suggest a GeForce 7800GTX they rock and only cost more than my first car

Ati Does make some bad *** cards even in the mid range prices of $80-150 USD. I run a x700 and it's not the fastest card but it was many times better than my old 9700 pro. The x300-600 class should be cheap and powerful enough to run EQ just fine

i actually got this card with a bare bones kit i bought from them and run the card on my second boxer comp and yes EQ runs just fine. I'm not an Nvidia fan though since they bought out my most favorite of video accelerators the 3DFX chip and never expounded on the awsome technology.

Yes, I loved 3DFX. I still have a Vodoo 3000 in my wife's computer. Works great!
