What about Zahal the Vile? Anyone else remember trying to kill him when we were too young?

Heh, I had completely forgotten about him. He became one of those "nemesis" NPCs for me, and as I got higher in level I'd drop everything to gak him if he ever showed his rotting face within my tracking range.

There should be an option..

Karanas SUCK!

I always hated them...they were big, especially WK..runnin thru that was a biotch...i h8ted NK also cuz i fell off the huge ledge once when i was runnin to high pass hold lol.

man this was like 4 or 5 years ago!

for lack of a better choice (see above) I voted SK..i remember trying to solo that mad man guy in his lil house w/ my mage at lv 16..it never worked very well..i also remember a yr or so later visiting my friends shaman here soloing the aviaks..that was fun cuz i was like lv 45 abouts and could pwn stuff...

i havent been to the karanas sense i did my soulfire quest almost three years ago. Now im 70 and am in a guild that raids tacvi...never thought id even see vex thal hehe.

Ahhh, the Karanas

Oh so long ago, a RL friend got me interested in EQ. I made my gnome wizzy, not realizing that my barbarian friend was on Antonica, and it would take me awhile to meet up with her. She says, get on the boat to Freeport and she'll meet me there. Ok, end up dying in OOT, and have to do it again. Finally get to Freeport and bind there. She says, lets go to WK and kill bandits, not knowing anything of the journey that laid ahead, I said sure. Clutching the wall in Kith, trying not to fall off the EK land bridge, avoiding griffs and HGs in NK, finally reach WK. We should bind in Qeynos she says. Ok, I could not believe how massive WK was, nor the fact that the bandits we were going to camp were closer to NK, so we had to run all the way through WK, Qhills, bind in Qeynos and then run all the way back to our camp. The whole journey took FOREVER. Not to mention the run to Qeynos everytime we got full with sashes.

However my favorite zone was SK, not because of the bestiary, or the decent xp for my level, but because of the comraderie of the zone. Every day people would chat it up in /ooc, asking how you were doing, how the hunt was going, cracking jokes, talking a bit of smack, it was great. The zone definitely had a family feel to it that I have yet to see duplicated in EQ. The only /ooc I see in any zone now are "c3?, Temp?, Conviction?, or LFG" It's kind of sad really. Also people rarely chat in groups anymore, it's always kill kill kill. Anyway, I digress,

I think even back during the old days (well old to me is when Kunark first came out) I only hunted South Karana. I spent from about lvl's 19 to 26ish there and would sometiems come back for splitpaw.

West Karanas... Bandits, alpha-loot until sash or bronze. Langseax of the Wolves quest. Dodging the werewolf and the occasional HG.

SK was my favorite Karana and I spent a lot of time there in high 20's / low 30's.

Those were good times, killing all kinds of birds, centaurs, and gnolls. You loot a few pp and "WOW! I'm moving up in the world, mobs are dropping pp now!"

Time spent camping spires and the best part of all (although I hated it at the time) was good old Sir Nandruar. Oh yes, I had many run-ins with that fool, and the first few times I don't think I really knew what hit me. He'd come along and cast fear on me and some other crazy spells I had never imagined, ruining the day of a poor young druid =(

It is funny now but I got so frustrated with that guy that I swore my revenge someday. I still haven't killed him because I look back and laugh about it, but I will get him someday lol.

For me it has to be WK.

I left Blackburrow due to low xp per kill feeling like I could take on anything in the game (this was my first toon and I had no idea about the game). Walked into this zone and saw various animals which I thought were benath my notice. Carrying on I saw a bandit standing outside a barn. "Ahah I thought a piece of scum threatening Qeynos! Fear my cleric nuke!!!" Needless to say his friends made me fear them and I went and hid in Blackburrow for a couple of levels and only entered WK with a full group after that :P

EK for me from 10-35 snakes-dogs/spiders/griffs/broon hunting and giants. That zone was a 1 stop shop till velius came out.

I too have my fondest memories in EQ as my early days hunting at the bandit farm in West Karanas. Even the bad points are memorable - sitting at the guard tower and having someone train bandits on you thinking they guards will help (I always thought I heard them laughing at me as they stood by and watched the bandits kill me). The worst part of the Karanas is the constant rain (and I am a follower of Karanas too).

I learned a ton about grouping by going to splitpaw. How important crowd control is, what makes a good tank, how to be a good puller...etc. I really hated it when gajanked that zone.

I also loved WK...getting housed by bandits...losing corpses...seeing my first hill giant.

I'll go with North but not by much, just seeing the " Silver Griffon is up" message for the 1st time gave me the willys, and learning how to fight my 1st toon a ranger there from 10 - 15 gives it the nod.
