Thats horriable =( but there are many stories, of gamers having seizure's and things. And of corse it gets blamed on the games... chances are most of these people already had medical problems. It is sad to see =(

However , too answer your question. I remember back in the kunark days, my collage roomate and skipped class multipal times and played 36 - 48 hours strieght. And that was just killing LCD's in solb to try and hit lvl 60. Back then 59 was a hell lvl. and it lived up to its name, cause it was (HELL!). I dont think i could ever be that addicted to something again. Now im more of a casual player. Putting in 2 hours a night max. Unless its my day off work.. then ill put in 5 - 8 hours sometimes. =)

again, i hate to see things like that girl having a seizure. =( i feel bad for her.

I read about this. The girl actually had the seizure as a reaction to flashing lights in the game. People try to make it out as "video games can kill you", when really any tv show, movie, or anything that has flashing lights could have done it. If 5 hours of video was bad for you I'd be dead a long time ago :)

There has been warnings for epilitic folks to not play video games ever since the NES days. It's not really all that new.

Seizures are basically just synapses over-firing. The flashing lights cause a reaction that the brain can't process and synapses over-fire which leads to a seizure. Not every epileptic person is succeptible to flashing lights, some other triggers can be sounds or smells. Flashing lights are more common though.

It's unfortunate that she had a seizure, hopefully it was not her first one, otherwise shame on her for exposing herself to such a risk.

I saw this article as well. What infuriates me is that the media will make it sound like it's the fault of the video game or of the video game manufacturer because things like this happen. It's unfortunate that this happened and I feel bad for the girl. I love video games and play them for hours on end but I know when enough is enough and I have reached my limit. Maybe this girl's parents should have supervised her more and limited her playing time. I get so tired of people blaming TV/video games/music, etc. for the problems when the REAL problem is the lack of parenting and discipline. /sigh

Aye, the link is not present. On another note, that little girl is a light weight. Only one seizure/5hours? I have dozens of seizures an hour while playing EQ. It's all part of the game... isn't it? Why do you think they have that warning on the box?

She loves to play video games, the station reported. She spent five hours straight playing a video game over the weekend. Her marathon session led to a frightening situation.

I can remember renting final fantasy 2 (and ff3 thereafter) from the video store and beating it in a weekend. I can't beleive they called her session a "marathon." I wonder what my stint would be called?

I used to play EQ everyday after work for about 5-6 hours, 10-12 hours Saturday, and again on Sunday. Days off? 8-12 hours if possible. It's never caused anything more than a mild headache at times. Games are harmless.

Oh wait, I almost forgot about the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome I've developed in both hands which has forced me to quit playing almost completely...
