Video Card HelpFollow

I'm finally buying my new video card so I can come play EQ again. I was wondering if someone could tell me which one of the following video cards was good for EQ:

Option 1 XFX GeForce FX 5200 / 128MB DDR / AGP 8X / VGA / TV Out / Video Card
Option 2 PowerColor Radeon 9550 / 256MB DDR / AGP 8X / VGA / DVI / TV Out / Video Card
Option 3 PowerColor Radeon 9250 / 128MB DDR / PCI / VGA / DVI / TV Out / Video Card
Option 4 3DFuzion GeForce MX4000 / 128MB DDR / PCI / VGA / TV-Out / Video Card

Which of these is the best considering Price and the fact that I'll be playing EQ? Plz don't suggest a different card than what's here as I'm trying to stay under $100. I just need a video card that plays EQ.

If you think I should bring this to the tech support forum, I will.

Thanks

I think Sony recommends a Gforce card but not sure which one. I've always used the onboard Nvidia card that came with my computer and it works fine.

I know some of the newer cards or just newer drivers for older cards don't play well with EQ though. You might want to check out SOE's site to be sure before buying anything.

Which ever card you decide on, make sure it supports Direct X 3.0. I did a search of sony knowledge base and came up with this link:

http://help.station.sony.com/cgi-bin/soe.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16163&p_created=1132343076&p_sid=wZf6EWWh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PWRmbHQmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTQwJnBfcHJvZHM9MSZwX2NhdHM9NzMsMjQ3JnBfcHY9MS4xJnBfY3Y9MS43MzsyLjI0NyZwX3NlYXJjaF90eXBlPWFuc3dlcnMuc2VhcmNoX25sJnBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9dmlkZW8gY2FyZA**&p_li=&p_topview=1

My suggestion would be to get a card with the most ram on it. Also, an agp card has a faster data connection to the motherboard. I understand wanting to keep under $100. If I had to pick one from your list, would have to take option 2. From the same website your selections come from may I suggest this card if you prefer to stay with an nvidia card:

uh...I don't have an nvidia card now...apparently I was lucky to ever be able to play EQ because I'm using a shitty SiS video card from 2001 that never supported the game in the first place...

I used to play on a Geforce FX5200. It's not the greatest card, but it didn't have many problems and ran pretty well. The ATI 9550 is junk, don't even mess with it.

The other two cards you listed are PCI cards and should be avoided at all costs if possible.

ATI = Junk IMO

I have never had any luck or good things happen with ATI. Nvidia is very stable chipset, and easy drivers to get a hold of. Just don't use the most recent drivers. Use version 61.77 that seems to be the best drivers that I have found.

I agree with Frakkor about the Geforce5200. I'm still using mine, but with a slight twist. I'm not sure how much experience you have with overclocking cards, but I have found that NVIDIA cards are much safer to tweek than others I have tried. You can benchmark your card using freeware like 3DMark05 1.2.0 [ http://www.majorgeeks.com/3DMark05_d4376.html ], then increase performance settings using something like NVmax 4.01.00 LE [ http://www.majorgeeks.com/NVmax_d387.html ].

WARNING: If you don't know how to overclock and clearly understand the consequences, don't bloody do it! Or at least, read up on it and talk to those who have. You can easily frag your card, or worse, and an improperly overclocked card might run great, but have a greatly shortened lifespan.
