Is it just me, or is EQ making a HUGE comeback? I played for about 3 years, from 2000 to 2003. I got out of EQ for 2 years and about 3 months ago got the itch to play again. Coming back was a bit odd, noone was in any of the zones I remember hunting in, and there were very few people of mid to low lvl at all. Now in the past 2 or 3 weeks, I see a bunch of posts from people saying they are coming back from WoW, or another game, or even first time players.
I guess this post is to bring up the question;
1) Is it me, or are people coming back in droves?
2) How is SOE marketing, or are they? If not why, if yes, then how?
3) Will EQ be around for a long time?(I think so)
Anyway, just some observations and something to stir up conversation.

first off EQ is staying for quite a while longer for sure.
People do seem to be comning back judging by the number of i'm back posts
marketing i'm not so sure about to be honest i havne't seen much along the line of advertisements aside from gaming mags but even that is near zero.
none of the old school zones are use for anything more than transportation.
You need to be careful though because you are a bit behind in the gear real and you might need some friends or a strong guild to help build up your char a bit. Welcome back and don'tget discouraged in the early part of your revival just be patient

First off before buying any expansions Jan 11 the Titiaum package is scheduled for release all 10 expasions. Also SOE has a free 21 day comeback going on for all expired accounts. EQ will be around for a long time all the servers have a healthy population after the mergers. Even rumors of the next expansion are on the wind prophycies of ro. I give EQ at least another 2 years of life most likely more.
There are still some "Old school" zones that see lots of traffic.
Not a lot of the newbie zones other than BB and GFAY granted, but they do see use.

The game will certainly be around for a while to come.
EQ however has morphed into mostly a raiding game with few good casual guilds on most servers. If you are going to be a casual player I would highly suggest another game or playing a strong solo class.

I am one of the returning players - I stopped playing completely about 15 months ago, but had been playing very, very little for 6 months prior to that.
That reduction was after leaving my guild that I had been raiding with for a few years... just got tired of dedicating so much time to the game, but found that it was boring without the raids since other stuff was far too easy with raid gear.
I played WoW and EQ2 a little, but kept up with changes to EQ a little bit and decided I really preferred the overall game design of EQ better (though I really wish they would update the graphics engine, and character models and animations!)
With the additions of DoN and DoDh expansions, there are so many things to do with single groups, and more casual players are able to handle the harder content they have added since there is now some impressive gear available outside of raids. I will still probably look to get back into a raid guild at some point, but I am having a blast with group content like the montser missions and DoN missions.
EQ has always been a raid guild game overall, and I tend to think the opposite of previous poster in that it has moved more toward accomodating players that are not able to spend the time required for the big raid guilds. There is far more to do in EQ now without a guild than there was when Luclin or PoP were the current expansions.

Wow if you thought this in 2005... man the game is BUZZING with people both veteran and new. It's amazing! Long live EQ! And give us back EQOA!!!!!

lol reading these old posts is pretty funny to see how things turned out. EQ is kicking some serious tail right now after it went F2P. The servers are booming a year after the F2P model and the prediction that many had of it dying off soon after is fading RAPIDLY! EQ will be here when we are long dead! Why? Because it started it all man! And people will always want to see the game that started it all, they want to see what their grandparents, great grandparents saw.

Just for the knowledge, what server are you on?
As I find it fizzled noticeably after 5-6 months into F2P but made a bit of a recovery of late, here on AB server.
It's good to know some servers have a strong F2P/Silver or returning player population though. As we need a certain percentage of them to stick around for the longevity of the game.
