Why ME?Follow

Ok that's a pretty cry-baby subject line, but I sometimes feel like that.

It seems that I am the only one in my guild who cannot get the new audio alert things to work. No matter what I do I can't get the buttons to not be grayed out.

Here are some of the problems:

1) buttons are all gray, and stay gray no matter what I type in the character string field.

2) there are no "sounds" on the what people tell me is supposed to be a drop down menu in the sounds field. I see that there is supposed to be, but there are no names for sounds. I'm told there is a whole list of different sounds to choose from.

3) in the set field my only choice is "default."

Here is what I've tried so far:

1) doing an advanced, complete file check (I have all the expansions).

2. checking my EQ folder to see if there is a file there called nosound.txt. A guildie told me that that file could have been the problem. I don't have that file in my EQ folder

3. doing a lot of whimpering and whining in guild chat.

BTW, I have the same problem on both my computers. Which makes it even freakier.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? or can you think of something else to try short of reloading the whole of eq. :P

I belive this "feature" came from a patch and not the expansion, can anyone confirm that?

HELP!!!

This if for Dracoboars

Sorry, Kerridwen do not know your answers.

BTW my buttons do not un-grey until I type something into the "pattern", then select a sound, then "create" becomes usable, and the sample sound is played.

I have sound turned off unless I am playing with the voices.

I cannot stand the clop clop clop of my own footfalls and there does not seem to be a resonable way to mix it where you can turn those sounds down, yet listen for other things.

I don't use the sound because of that attack music and some of the zone music is annoying plus those crazy foot steps
#8 Dec 14 2005 at 10:45 AM Rating: Good
I've turned off the battle music. The footsteps dont' bother me.

I usually have it turned down low enough to play music over it anyway.

I was just feeling arguementative this morning :)

I need the sound for fighting Vishimtar in DoN. there is a particularly nasty AE that hits and I want to be alerted to it cuz in 30 secs you die. I would only turn it on for that purpose.

It is irrelevant whether one uses sound or not. I just wanted to know how to fix the problem i have.

And Kelti, when i type in that field nothing happens to the grayed out buttons, they stay gray :(

I hate my computers.

I assume you selected the sound too because I had to do both of those things. Then I got create and play.

Kelti

I say in my second post above (the one that lists the problems), that there ARE NO names of sounds on the drop down menu. So if there is nothing to choose from (and it won't let me type the name of a .wav file, that is probably why it won't activate the buttons. (you say it needs both something in the pattern field and the audio field for the buttons to become activated)

The solution is going to be how to get the EQ audio triggers window to reconize that there ARE sound (wav) files in the folder called "audio triggers" in the everquest directory.

I even copied the wav files into the mail EQ folder, and so far nothing works.

I'll say it again-- The game itself doesn't recognize that the information is there. :(

Other people have logged my toon on and it works for them, on their computer, just fine. But my TWO computers it doesn't work. Neither computer recognizes the names of the sound files in the subfolder in the EQ directory. It's just so baffling -- I want to scream

Sorry Kerridwen, you did say that. I'd do a complete file check on patcher, which is always my first move with any problem, sometimes more than once I do it. It fixes so many things.

My alert sounds are stored in a directory/file as follows:

c:\program files\Everquest\Audio Triggers\Default\alert2.wav
There are a total of 10 files in that directory.

At least you can make sure you have that. If you don't and you dont get them with a complete file check, find another wav file on your drive and drag it there just for testing purposes. Or at least that is what I would try. However, if you drag a sound there after EQ is loaded and the alert window open, it does not show, as I tried that. It may if it was there when you loaded EQ.

/edit Do you have all your other sounds when you play EQ?

I just added audoble triggers yesterday, and they work great.

You have to set up the 'Pattern' it watches for, select a 'Sound' from the [AudioTriggers/Shared] fodler in EQ, then hit 'Create' and it adds to the Pattern box below. I don't know what the 'Trigger Set' dropdown is for though.

Also...make sure you have your EQ sounds turned on.

what triggers do you all use?

I've debated setting up a couple, but i'm lazy and haven't done it yet.

I'd appreciate some ideas for more triggers

Root breaks = Monte Python "Run away!"
Snare fades = Forerst Gump "Run Forrest run!"
FD fails = Homer Simpson "D'oh!!"
Can't cast, stunned = Homer Simpson "AAahh!!"
I die = Peter Griffin "Holy crap!"
Mob dies = Stewie Griffin "Victory is mine!"

So far I haven't failed FD, been stunned or died, so I've only had half of mine work so far.

This, of course, being my Necro.

Thank you Kelti and Debalic. Deb you solved it. Kelti, like you, read my question, understood it and replied with helpful tips.

I did not have "sounds" turned on in the options menu when you log in. That was all it was. /em bonks herself.

A tip though: It used to be that once you checked one of those boxes on the options menu, you could log into the game and the feature would be activated. Not any more. Now you have to log out completely, re-patch and log back in for the feature to work.

Regarding what I use it for:

One is when I'm in a Cleric CHC (Complete Heal Chain). Even though I'm paying close attention, it is very helpful to have that audio trigger.

Note about the CHC audio trigger - My guild calls the CHC in a cleric's channel. The audio triggers will not pick up on any patterns (character string) from any self-made channel. Only the ones that are standard in the game, for instance:

/t /say, /rs, /gu, /g, /em, and anything that EverQuest says, such as "you feel yourself about to appear." (Another really good one to trigger :)

Because our clerics are announcing in a channel and the audio trigger feature will not pick up on patterns in a self-made channel, it didn't work at first. Which sent me into another tizzy.

But we finally figured that out too and decided to put an additional line in our hot keys that would send a /t(ell) to the next cleric in line. All it says is "cast now." That way we can fix the trigger on the pattern "cast now," and get an audio trigger.

The hot key looks like this:
----------------------------------------------
/# [1.1.1] CH for << %t >>(p18)[1.1.1]
/cast #
/pause 18
/# Cleric [2.2.2] Cast Now.
;t (cleric name) Cast Now.

Unfortunately, you have to change the name of the cleric who follows you each time, but all our clerics think it's worth it.

For those who don't know,

/# represents the number of the channel you are announcing in.

[1.1.1] represents what order you are in the chain and the [2.2.2] is the number of the next cleric in the chain.

(p18) means the pause is 18 ticks, or 3 seconds.

/cast # respresents the number of the spell gem that contains your Complete Heal spell.

;t is the same as /t (tell) but actually seems to go a bit faster than a standard tell.
------------------------------------------------

Thanks again for the help.

Ahh, yeah that's a nice setup - I used to be a Raid Cleric too. Changing the rotation on the fly is a pain though (cleric dies, goes OOM, falls asleep, etc)

Aww, we just do it. If someone dies they say "3 out" or "skip 3" to miss a turn. It works fine.

I think it would be cool for guilds to download certian sound clips for raids and when on raids the RL could say certian things for the triggers like RAID MOVE UP, or BACK UP YOU FREAKIN IDIOTS
