I have a 50 Mage and am starting to "run" into mobs that summon . I solo a lot and I dont do very well face to face with a hard hitting whatever. Other than just staying away from them, are there any techniques/tricks to try?

Thanks for any input.

If you're pet tanking, just keep your nuking to a minimum and do your best to let your pet keep agro.

With my Necro I can solo summoners with DoT's if I'm careful not to over do it and don't steal agro from my pet (of course I have FD to cover me if I mess up).

I've learned that it's kind of a trial and error learning curve because it seems different mobs have different agro tolerances before they will summon. i.e. Mob A may take longer to say "I've put up with enough of your nuking Mage Soandso! You'll not evade me!" than Mob B.

Sorry for rambling... bored at work today... lol.

With my druid I solo summoning Mobs regularly....

My trick is timing. I cast my first Dot and wait to be summoned. After I get Summoned I back up for 2 seconds then cast my next spell. Rinse and repeat whether the next casts are continued DPS or self heals, until mob is dead or fleeing.

May be a bit simple but works for me. Smiley: lol

Stock up on Healing potions and wait till you are at 60% health.

Click a healing potion. Its a nice Heal over Time that normally allows my chanter to nuke like heck and finish the Mob off.

Use air pet and get good agro on him with it. Then start nuking him slowly with you best DPM spells then when he is either low on life or your pet is about to die(reclaim) blast him with you biggest and best DPS spell. If you grab agro then you have two options....back off or burn him.

Here are some items to try and get that will make soloing easier

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=7444
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=8952

Now I know that some of those items will be hard to get(especially the last one...which is why i mentioned the 2nd link not as much absorb but easier to get) but they are still worth going for eventually.

I'll look for some more slow items and a root clicky as well that's not a raid item(or one that no longer drops)

as a bard I either charm the summoner...or another mob near by. You have to be ready to recharm when it drops, make sure you have your toggle between target key set up, helps me a ton. (bards up until 64 can only charm level 51 mobs or lower) Healing potions and selos help to :)

How will melee haste help a Magician solo?

get a good procing weapon aug it up with LS2 aug and then go to town on the mob........It saves a whole lot of mana being able to melee well. Also if he ever gets Willsapper it will be handy.

Having a Top robe on hand isn't a bad idea either.

Hmmmm I wonder how long a caster with avg gear would stand up to a mob hitting for 400 to 500 a whack.....dont think haste with help out much there , maybe a cleric would be better then haste, aleast when the caster dies he can get a rez with only min downtime.P.
