They are part of the DoN task. With each completion of the task you will be giving an amount of either crystal. Then you can use them at the merchants at the DoN merchants.
Here is the quest for the Evil Side The Evil Side gives you ebon crystals and the Good side give you radiant crystals.
I hope this explains it some. I'm sure there are better post out there about this.

Nope Min of 3 I believe.
I probably should have just linked this first. It is a thread on the progression and it has a nice link on it for all the quest you can do.
