Looting rules for pickup groups ?Follow

#1 Dec 19 2005 at 11:43 AM Rating: Decent
Up until reciently I didn't care to much about loot The pp you got in pick up groups was not worth the hassel of dealing with it. When I needed money I would go farm. But now that I am get into areas with better loot I find that now I care. Problem is tanks/puller never loots and it seems in all most every situation I am in, The ML most often the cleric or chanter either leave the group before I do or I have to leave for real life issue and I never get any loot from these groups. I am looking for advise as to how it is best to handel. What I have been doing is stoping to loot mobs in proportion to the number of people in group. what do you think

My rule of thumb is ML but roll for goodies.
As a Tank and/or puller it's easy to miss the text if something good drops so I alsways have logging on and I run YALP.

Sooner or later the group is gonna need a med or Bio break and I will review whats been looted during those times.
But honestly, it's very rare that I have encoutered a less than shining individual that has ninja looted something good. For the Most part most I have been in call for a Hold on pulls if something needs to be rolled for.

It is easier if the pickup group is for a specific purpose, say an LDoN or DoN. Then you should insist one person be the ML and they should be required to split at some designated spot after the adventure. If anyone does not care for split, they can say so and leave whenever they want. If you make your intentions known from the outset, most people will try to accomodate you. If they loot and leave after that, well they just bought a spot on your ignore for future group list.

For more fluid groups like PoV where people can come and go, the looter should link the drops so people can say whether they want in or not. It is tough for plat in these situations. I would have everyone loot and have split turned on.

The looting rules for pickup groups are simple, they are whatever the leader of the group says they are.

the way I do it on a broad scope i would put them as everyone rolls on anything no drop unless they pass, if a player has an item they don't roll untill everyone has something unless they get an item noone else wanted.

But if the leader of another group wants something else thats fine it's his group.

Autosplit on for pickup groups. Everyone has a right to call a roll on anything looted if they are interested. Then generally I will just balance my looting based on what everyone else is doing. If corpses are rotting I'll loot more, if I see people running up to corpses I just looted I'll back off some.

Autosplit does not give an accurate split. If you loot 4 plat, and have 6 group members, looter gets it all. If you loot 6 plat, then it's 1 plat each, any amount not divisible evenly goes to the looter. If you have an ML saying that's fair, they lie. And monks hate autosplit, weighs/slows them down.

I may be a minority, but I really really hate ML'ing, I always seem to lose, (as do many in the group, unless you are the ML). You should take turns looting and roll on good stuff, take turns on gems, etc.

It's annoying to have to all leave because one person wants to go to do split, and if you don't, it's really unfair. Now for LDoN's or short term things, not as bad, but you still miss out on tradeskill stuff.

Yeah we all know this, but if split is on (yes off if there is a monk who asks you to turn it off) you have more chance of getting a fairer split when everyone is looting. But in that case, you must take your turn and not rely on everyone else to loot. Yes, the absolute fairest way is to have a ML who loots all and SELLS all then splits at the end.

Trouble is, some tradeskills stuff or other drops are worth more NOT sold to NPCs and most people do not care who gets these odds and ends. If it is something rare or valuable and you do not want to get hosed selling it to a PC then you roll.

and as mentioned earlier if it is not a fixed instanced group (i.e. LDON, DoN, etc) most of the time I do not get a split at all, either the ML or I end up leaving, ppl rotate in and out of groups all of the time. If autosplit is on at least I will get something

I never like ML is a pick-up group unless its like a LDON or DON mission where people generally stay till your done. But in a normal pick up group 9 times out of 10 people will come and go throughout the day. In those situtations it seems like the ML ends up keeping all the loot. As a perosn who isn't sitting on 10000k of PP in my bank I want my share. I think it should be FFA without people being greedy. Far as gear and such that drops it should all be randomed.

another solution is what I do when ML. If I need to leave I go sell, come back and split, then disband. And always ask if anyone wants an item that is not trash loot, as MT rarely sees what drops
