Can't connect to patch server! help! :(Follow

#1 Dec 20 2005 at 2:40 PM Rating: Decent
I try to run the patcher today, and it says " Internet connection request failed. The patch server may be down. check your connection and try again"

obviously i have a connection, and have spoke to chat support. they offered me no help. (mind u, i played EQ yesterday, no problem at all). why is this? please dont say its my anti-virus , cause it's not. dont say its my router-dont have one . all options have been exerted, i just need someone's assistance that knows somewhat of what theyre doing. all tech support says "disable the fire wall. thatll work"

they gotta figure out what theyre doing :(

If I had to guess, I'd say you have some some of firewall in between your PC and the EQ servers.

I don't think the servers were down yesterday or today, so I'd make a safe bet to say that it is something with your PC.

What do you have for internet service? Do you have zone alarm installed? Have you tried disabling your anti-virus then connecting?

Search the tech support forums for a list of ports that EQ uses and make sure you don't have anything already running on those ports.

Check for spyware/adware/viruses. Do a scan at www.trendmicro.com just in case your virus software has been compromised.

It's nothing Sony needs to fix, it's something on your end.

It could be anything, a blocked port on your PC or isp, a bad router between you and the patch server, the patch server down, etc. It's hard to say.

As far as a solution, you could try the following to see if you can get into the game. This will bypass the patcher and start you at the disclamer prompt (or whatever that first screen you have to accept is).
-Go into your EQ directory
-Right Click eqgame.exe
-Left Click "Send to Desktop as Shortcut"
-Close all folders and go to your desktop
-Right Click the new shortcut
-Left Click Properties
-In the Shortcut tab add patchme to the end of the target line so it looks something like:
"C:\Program Files\EverQuest\eqgame.exe" patchme

Hope this helps.

Oh, and slightly off toppic, does anybody remember the addresses to the different servers? I remember when we use to be able to ping/tracert them to track down connection problems.

Usually 90% of the time when you get this message you are being mislead, the real reason you can't connect to the server is because your video card has become obsolete and needs to be replaced with an upgrade. This happens 100% of the time after a major patch and/or everquest upgrade the reason being they no longer support the card, usually 3 to 5 years old cards. I hope this helps anyone scratching their heads try to figure out why they are online but can't connect. Every time it happens to me I upgrade my card and bam I'm back playing usually with much better graphics.

So 13 to 15 year old cards, now? Seriously? How do people do this?

I couldn't agree more. There's nothing worse than trying to play a game with a video card and on a computer TEN YEARS OLD!
