Bard bot?Follow

I'm not sure if bot is the right term, but I ran across something very odd in the past week.

I have a couple of toons with a few missing spells in their 61-64 range, so I thought I'd go get some parchment drops in HOH with my wiz (where I still make great XP and can comfortably solo, and have had good luck in the past getting parchments, albeit somewhat of a rare drop).

One of the basements has been perma-camped by a bard doing some kiting (not swarm kiting). I've noticed a couple of odd things:

  • He never loots his kills - they always rot (/em weeps for those rotting parchments!)
  • I left a toon in HOH and would log back and forth between other toons every 20-30 minutes to jump on any camp openings... he's always there in the same basement, running the same pattern... kiting... with 3-5 rotting corpses... if I stay and watch, I get to see them poof :(
  • He never responds to tells
  • He *always* responds to the text "camp check" whether in /ooc or /tell text within a microsecond with a canned OOC message... even if you spam "camp check" 50 times in a row, you'll get 50 canned responses - maybe he's just being polite?
  • ... according to eqplayers, which admittedly is buggy, he rolled the toon and went to lvl 70 + 270AA in the last 40 calendar days w/15 days played!

  • I'm just going to buy my few missing spells in baz and forego getting the parchment drops, but does this look odd to anyone else?

    Very Fishy indeed!

    Have you tried training him?

If I had to guess based only on the information you gave, I could be almost 100% sure that it is a bard that is running MQ2 and using an auto circler macro to kill mobs.

It's a pretty common macro for bards.

    The person is running macros.

Petition it next time. They will be banned.

The HoH basements are very popular places for people to macro bards in.

train the crud out ofhim a few times, and he'll get the idea and knock it off. (or at least move to an instanced zone.)
    #7 Dec 21 2005 at 2:59 PM Rating: Decent
    There ya go!

If he's just letting the Mobs rot....take a seat, 2 mins after kill all corpses are fair game!

    Maybe even free Parches!

    Then Petiton the slimeball.

I'd bet the bard has a looting macro to only loot parchments.

Those corpses you see will most likely have junk.

most don't bother, unless they are also leveling another toon there.

With only one toon involved, looting slows down xp. (and requires you to fade frequently, since you'll have mobs aggroed on you, too.)

Good point. The Bard is alone.

It can't hurt to hang around and try a few corpses.

Don't remember if those mobs drop coin, but if they do, you can tell if he is running a script for looting that way.

Put him on your friends list.

Training someone is uncool and can get you suspended besides with a Bard running a macro would most likely get him some additional exp. Nothing wrong with blocking his path and making him change course with a couple proper course corrections I am betting you can get him to run into a wall.

As far as him scripted looting corpses I don't think it can be done being as there is no key I am aware of to target a corpse besides on all macros disrupting the timimg throws everything off. I imagine if you spam him with tells of Camp check you may ***** up the timing also

Which is the lessor of the two evils then???

Training a BOT? OR the BOT process itself?

    It's done all the time.

Also, training is the lesser of two evils, Bub.

Yeah? So is hogging a zone/mobs while AFK when other people are there for legit reasons.

and using macros will get you banned.

At the cost of others game play. Oh that's real cool.

macroed bards arent gonna be driven off their paths. unless, you mean, by training 100+ mobs on to them and lagging the crap out of them.

Thanks to everyone for the info/advice... coincidentally, last night, the bard in question was non-anon and not in HOH for the first time in a long time (he was in an instanced zone).

Maybe he's an allak reader! LOL

In any case, I decided to /petition. I'm not sure if the GM's will just blow it off, but unless I see Return-of-the-Macro'd-Bard, I'm moving on.

Like any player in EQ, I've probably had my share of grief, but this was the first time it's ever gotten me frustrated enough to take it to a /petition.

Training is uncool no matter what justification you use. Doing a /petition is the right thing to do.

Do the spell components drop anywhere else?
Sounds like you lost a lot of funtime by just watching this dude's macro.
I'd rather watch digital grass grow than worry about macroers.
most macroers are just in their own corner and nobody even notices them. Like one small ection of HOH...

    Macroing isn't really a problem.
2% of macroers are responsible for the bad name and PR. Basicly those that are doing stuff like auto-tradeskilling in order to own a market.

This may sound dumb, but bear with me I am a realtively new player. What is a macro?
    #22 May 03 2006 at 7:44 PM Rating: Default
i'm not a new player and i may get "flamed" for saying this but is there a macro program out there that does like spell skills cause i'm getting sick of having to sit at my desk and hit 1-5 to work up spell skill cause you fly from 1-30 in a matter of hours (if you know how and where to go) and i don't want to spend what little time i have to play to work up those stupid skills i'd love to just get some work done at home and around the house while doing that skill up process.
    #23 May 03 2006 at 8:37 PM Rating: Default
i know there is one but i dont know where to get it

Don't know.. I'd do both. Then again, it's far, far more acceptable on the PvP server, so I guess it's one of those taboos on other servers I'm not quite understanding of.

And, hey, the guy's cheating. May as well take him down... not like he hasn't cheated his way up for more than any series of trains couldn't do to him.

One question, though. Back the old days, GMs would periodically check up on players on Rallos Zek. One did with me and my friends so much we got to know him quite well.. they'd use a form of Invis that wasn't detectable with See Invis, Track, or any other skill you'd hope might be useful in the case. I hear they've cut down on GMs.. does this mean no more check ups? Or do bots like this just slip through the cracks?
