Out of the 10 Expansions..Follow

I went with Planes of Power.

Reasons why I picked that is the content of the game and the story line. I love the fact that when you kill the Planes of Power raid encounters you gain something and move up to the next mob or Teir. You can level up from 46-70. I know making it form 65-70 would take months but it could be done. Bastion of thunder and Plane of Valor are my favorite zones. Once you hit elementals the fun starts.

I would of picked GODiscord but I havent really been in those zones much but Ive been to Ikky and all the zones before that.

Get rid of DoD it sucks big time monster missions are just good for those ebay jackass to make there toons and sell them off. IT got tooooooooooo much exp should make it a blue and thats it. Items should grow with your toon also and it would be alot better. When is sony going to crack down on these ebay baster? I'm sick of it they need a server call it old school or old world preluclin when you had to work for your ****. Nothing wrong with twinking just like to see people get some quests done and not go for high end exp places. They need to make all the zones the same exp maybe some a bit higher then others. But not such a differance where you can to one zone over another.

I see all these posts and threads about how the game has turned into a gear up fest and that none of the expansions since PoP have any lore. The game has become that way because the casual player does not bother with the lore. It is still there, in every expansion. Some of them force you to see it, like velious and PoP, others are like normal worlds of thier own where you have to look deeper to find the lore. Nothing in OOW?... try looking at the Breakdown in Communication quest. It shows why you are progressing into the zones, as well as gives a breakdown of the history of the land and its people. OOW and GoD not have a purpose? Sony spent 3 months and created 2 different zones to give a gradual, real time evolving senereo as to why we need to go there. LDoN,?, it laid the groundwork for all of the matamuram creatures.

Want the BEST lore? For its time, Luclin. Overall?... LDoN. There was more lore text in this expansion than any, and build all the groundwork that took players all the way to the end of GoD and OOW.

Ive liked most of the expansions to date, although I really do think LoY could have just been a patch. Other than that, LDoN is probbly my least favorite because the experience sucks, and the dungeons have a 'cookie cutter' feel to them. Not to mention the missions can take forever to complete.

I really like Kunark and Velious when they came out, would be hard for me to pick a favorite between the two. Luclin was alright, but wasnt the same for me the first two Verant made. I took a long break right around the release of PoP. I simply wasnt that interested in the new content.

I made a few short returns to eq during PoP, LDoN, and GoD eras, but mostly hunted in velks. It wasnt till OoW came out that I really got interested in the game again. I remember the first time I saw Draniks Scar... was beutiful.. tropical landscape, burning sky, gothic architecture... was very impressed. I havent been able to put the game down since!

Sony's other expansions are nice too. PoP and Planar Progression was a great concept, however now days the amount of time needed to spend on it isnt worth the rewards (even in potime). GoD has a very unique feel to it. Sort of like an ancient Babylon, and the mobs still provide reward and challenge. They really went right with DoN: has a very diverse and rewarding progression system, the zones are beutiful, the raids provide fun and unique challenges and strategy needed to overcome them, the guild lobby and halls, the whole revamped idea of mission rewards pretty much went right everywhere ldon went wrong. DoN is really a great expansion.

Lastly, although some people really dont like DoD, I am a big fan. Its pretty much the same concept as Forgotten Realms Underdark, of which Ive always been a huge fan. The missions can be very challenging, and provide nice rewards. Still trying to kill that ***** hivequeen!!! The only thing I dont care for in the expansion are the monster missions. Although I cant argue with a free aa here and there, I really think it will lower the skill level of up and coming players and in the end have a horribly negitive effect on the game.

In the end I voted for OoW. I love the ominous look and feel of the zones and the content they provide, even if DoN has a better progression system.

I voted Velious simply because there were so many awesome zones and things to do. Everything was so well done, and it created so many challenges for single groups and small raids.

1. Crystal Caverns (absolute brilliance in zone design...don't go through your 30's without spending time here).
2. Velks Lair (more brilliant design...with huge improvements after the zone upgrade).
3. Kael Drakkal (was there anybody in EQ who did not like this zone? I rememember when it first came out, everybody was scared to death of it, it was a real challenge to try and get through to WL (there was no fixed invis at that time).
4. Coldain Ring War number 7 in Great Divide is the single greatest event that Verant/SOE has ever done as far as I'm concerned.
5. Lodizal
6. Tradeskills

There were also some stinkers. I didn't care for ToFS, WL, Skyshrine or Temple of Veeshan, but there were so many other great things it doesn't matter. I still refuse to destroy my Thurgadin amor. I'm waiting until we get apartments, so I can hang it on the wall.

dont hold your breath on apartments, unless you want to paymore per month, it might require a graphics update to.

I personally would love to have a fireplace made out of a dragons head..... a pelt off of a giant bear..
statues of firona vie and lanys,, some non agro plants.

a Painting of The TurthBringer and a chess/checkers boards made up of elementals as the pieces.

of course some weapons hanging on the wall, oh and a doggy to mess with

(add in all the tradeskill contasiners and containers me to keep things in them as long as i stay on...
but unless you move every now and then you fall asleep effectively camping you.

You would have to understand Velious in context of the fact that the level cap at the time was 60. It was exciting and different from the Kunark expansion, and for those of us just barely 30, kind of scary at the time. Maps weren't a part of the game, so you could wander these vast zones looking for the portal to Growth or the orc fort in Wakening Lands.

The very first raid I ever attended was Kael. Getting a prayer shawl was just as exciting as getting your epic, and far more difficult to achieve. We were on dwarf faction, so I never hunted NToV, but the Hall of Testing was a great way to spend a weekend afternoon, even after PoP and Luclin were available.

I actually voted for all the old world, just cause there is so much lore and content out there. I still wish Sony would update the mobs and loot tables so that those zones would be viable. Great graphics are neat, but the story line is what is important. It is sad to run into Thurgadin to buy velium and find no one at all in what was once a busy trade center.

I just always had trouble with the thougth of why I would want to kill a god. I mean, I had no trouble killing Inny, or CT, RZ, or Bertoxulous (thank you so very much for your staff, Bert), but why would I want to kill my very own Tunare (I never did)? Or even Mithaniel Mirth? I felt that having to kill gods that were aligned with your own in order to progress was just wrong.

In velious you knew who were the good guys and the bad. I still take my baby toons out to faction in Kael. Not nearly as good exp as some of the newer zones but a lot of good memories in Velious.

I don't think that I would want to live without any of them. I like the way they all mesh together, but I would hate to live without my main and he is vah shir, so luclin is my favorite. I also love to hunt and xp on the moon. Probably just because I spent so much time there while my character was growing up. *whips a tear from his eye and sniffles* They grow up so fast, you know.... where did all the time go....

I concure: LDON was rather poorly done. Having to slough through hundreds of very similar missions with hallways and rooms with mirror image like graphics, it was incredible tedious, and we ended up with pretty dismal upgrades. Although at the time it was the only way for a casual player to get anything close to raid level. The augs, like EB and infravision were the real winners for the expansion.

Umm they made the missions easier not harder (unless you're refering to the monster missions in which case it was very much deserved. Monster missions allowed too much xp for no risk whatsoever.) I really enjoy DoD missions. They take a lot of challenge to beat and the rewards are usually pretty good.

I said LoY, and I see I'm in a serious minority. No surprise, since the only reason was when if came out, my wife moved in with me and bought her the game. We pwrlvld her toon and then together we set out to explore the new zones together. Ahh, what a way to spend our honeymoon.

I actually really liked LoY. I think it gets the brush-off because it had so few zones (but to be fair it cost about 30% as much as a normal expansion at release) but the ones it has are well done. I still love Nadox and think the expansion had some very well done models, good loot for the risk (at the time.. mudflation and all that) and an all around good time. I imagine the raids were never amazing but, for single group content, it was (and is) good times.

Ok, what did it offer? Mid-level zones. Whats so great about that? I mean, sure, I'm mid level, but they did the same thing (and more of it) in Kunark. Kunark, I understand. Velious, uh uh.

There ARE some cool zones here, I'll admit. I enjoy ToFS the other night when I went there, and the faction thing sounds like a cool concept. Otherwise? Not much diversity. The lore associated with it is also pretty cool. I'm also sure that once I ditch this level I'll be able to see some other cool things that I haven't yet.

But honestly. I mean, all it seemed to be was a generic 'zone' expansion. Nothing new was really introduced, aside from the zones, that I'm aware of. Kunark had the zones, cool new race, and new raid opportunities. And the feel? Please. A similar feel goes along with the Everfrost zone in the original game. Wakening Lands, another cool zone, is the only exception I've seen.

Personally, with my current experience (which means no OoW, PoP, or GoD) I'd have to say Velious is the second-worst expansion next to Ykesha. Ykesha should have just been a 5 dollar download if you ask me.

Please keep in mind that this is a post-PoP player without the vast knowledge of a high end gamer. Feel free to alert me of anything else Velious has that makes is SO worthwile.

Umn sorry buddy but you obvously never played velous when it came out or just never played much into it. Here is what it provided....

The best thing was a raidible Dragon zone ToV. This zone even today isnt mid level...it takes a long while to clear it...and is rarely done even today because it is a pain. ToV is one of my favorite zones because of its layout and just sheer coolness of whats in it.

Kael....when velous came out this was no mid level zone either....this is another awsome zone...with all the raiding with Tormax, Vindi, AoW....by no means a mid level zone. Also has armor quests.

Sleepers Tomb....nough said here....this one isnt anything but an upper end zone even today...why do you think keys are so expensive to quest?

Thurgadin....this used to be my bind city until they figured out the bugs with luclin....many many quests here....this was the first that had mass armor quests..and shawl quests...and many more.

Skyshrine....this play was always amazingly large...and fun...many many quests here too...

Basically Velous was the first great expansion because of its massive content...it served mid to upper levels (and still does today). Kunark is probably the second best because of its content...both are my favorites...with Velous edgeing Kunark out. After Velous, every expansion had made the game go down hill IMO...The Books in PoK ruined the scope of the game because it was now easy to get everywhere, Level caps raised, AA's were added, Stats went haywire, and leveling became faster, yet the game became less challenging

Gates of Discord for the abundance of challenging, innovative content for both raids and groups and first full implementation of instanced content (I don't count LDoN because instancing was still in the fledgling stage, no adding after start, /shiver).

Close second would be Velious for the necessity of picking a side and the fact that all sides worked up to the mid-high end for you, great for both casuals and raids.

After that it gets a bit blurry... I'd rank it :

Ruins of Kunark
Omens of War, Shadows of Luclin, Planes of Power
Dragons of Norrath, Lost Dungeons of Norrath
Ykesha (I love the models and designs, but in terms of content it's a little... lacking...)
