Almost every expansion had something wonderful but, seriously, how can you pick anything except OOW as the best? The exp in these zones is awesome, the new loot was a major upgrade for everyone in the game and much of it is based on single group encounters. You could use a single group to get every one of your spells - something that's been lacking many other expansions (remember trying to get RGC?)

Kunark's major addition, imo, was teaching people how to do crowd control and the introduction of epic 1.0s.

SoV finally gave us a big insight into the dwarfs and giants and dragons, oh my. I still feel the only advantage of this expansion was the coldain ring and the 8th shawl (very sorry to see it stopped at 8).

SoL was a graphical update and the introduction of the vah shir. The zone content was cool and some of the quests are still fun but two of the encounters are still the worst designed in the game - Katta and Shei.

LDoN had a great idea but it failed to pan out when the items the vendors have became outdated SO fast and made the entire expansion almost worthless unless you've been able to put the time in to do the entire augment quest. The one thing I give them credit for with LDoN is that some of the existing problems were resolved - RGC became an easy spell to get and augments were introduced. One of the worst problems with LDoN is that some classes require drops from them to get their 2.0 epics and now that the vendor loot is trash, it's difficult to get anyone to do them. Not being able to add/remove people to LDoNs was also a problem that should have been addressed.

LoY was and still is a joke. Even the best loot isn't worth much. Except for a few spells that filled voids, I almost wish I hadn't gotten this expansion.

PoP was great but the idea of mobs hitting for 400+ just blew most people away. Many of us casters remember entering these zones with a bit over 2k hps; aggro equaled death in most cases. Finally being "ELEMENTAL" was the best feeling I'd had in the game but the quest to get it still seems unrealistic.

GoD is nice for high end guilds but sucks for everyone else. Getting spells is difficult for lower powered people and the flag quests are actually worse, by far, than PoP. UQUA IS THE SUCK. Backflagging is a major problem since only 2 mobs in QVIC or a UQUA raid is required. Because of this, I'd give GoD a slightly better rank than LDoN.

DoN is one of the most enjoyable when it comes to varied mob types, respectable places to afk if you're camping a single spawn or item while you watch tv or whatever and TRADABLE rewards via crystals. This is a close runner-up for best expansion, IMO.

DoD introduces people to futility. Similar to PoP, the progression is difficult but at least it's not rediculous like GoD. The rewards are awesome but difficult to get. Overall, this is tied with PoP for #3 best expansion due to the fact that most things are doable with a single group.

Overall, nothing made such a difference in power's power than OOW. Even for non-70 players or non-raiders, good loot is exteremely easy to come across.

Velious was hands down the best expansion, for many reasons.

Velious was a totally immersive expansion. Three factions. Three sides. Three different paths. You could ally with the dwarves against the giants, or vice versa. There were tons of encounters and events to exploit the advantages of each faction. Yelinak, Tormax, Dain to name a few. Tons of places to go and advance depending on which faction your guild went. While some farmed the arena, others farmed HoT. Then, if that wasnt enough, sleepers tomb was a blast for those that made it there. The Velious days still encouraged community, and there were always 15 or 20 players on the server that were infamous for something or another, and everyone knew it. It was fun that way. You had to interact to go places and do things. Now, sea's of AFK traders and annoyingly low level newbs or annoying snobbish 1kaa+ nolives inhabit what is left of the world. Competition for spawns and named made the game fun. Exploration of the content made it funner. Now its a farm fest and grind time, if you dont have a suit of 400hp/mana gear you cant make it, and if you do, theres nothing left for you to do. Everything is so overpowered now that Kunark is solod, Velious is solod, Luclin is duod, LDoN is forsaken, ect ect. Instanced zones ruin the community and allow too much opportunity for good stuff.

And to top Velious off, there was tons of other non faction stuff to do. Just walking around Western Wastes for the first time was a blast. Sirens grotto, Wakening Lands, Dragon Necropolis, Velks PoGrowth, PoMischief, bring on the good times! What was funner then getting pwned by a dragon on the port in? It was a different game back then. It was about being good at your class as opposed to having the best HP/MANA and most aa.

How many Anchient Muramite Runes your single groups gotten?

IMO Luclin was and is the best simply because anyone that has been in Vex Thal and took the time to look around. I for one know once I got into the palace I thought Man if I were the most bad *** chick on the moon this is what my home would look like. Not all delapitated like OOW and GoD. If I took over a place or lived in a place it would resemble VT and I still enjoy going there with friends. Another thing is there are clikies from Luclin that are no where else that I have seen in game. I recently got the IVU clikie I have wanted for ages because my main BST has always had to buy potions or beg someone for IVU but no more thanks to a long few weeks of group farming bosses there.

great reply derazor! it reminds me of what I love about eq and what is missing now.

I would have to say luclin is my favorite expansion, there is something for everyone in it, it is just huge, there are lots of quests and raiding and group spots. After Luclin I think the game became primarily for raiders.

Velious was definately the best expansion to date. It had the best tier'd quests like the coldain rings, the coldain shawls & the 3 tiers of armor (coldain, giants, dragons). It added tons more raid content to the game which was pretty limited in Kunark. You could choose which of the the 3 you wanted to join and without "too much" work you could switch factions. This was the only time faction was fun and not a rediculous load like Omens.

One "end zone" of velious, the temple of veeshan was even seperated into seperate wings. One wing for getting armor pieces to use with dragon faction and one wing for giant faction and then another wing for just high end raiding. This expansion was before SoE took over and messed some things up.

So the key things tiered armor, tiered quests (that weren't rediculous or restricted to certain people), and just lots of quests in general with involvement in almost all the velious zones.

In modern EQ faction is 99% useless and loot when SOE took over took a huge jump in HP/Mana which made this expansion maybe seem dumb to those who hadn't experienced it.

I really enjoyed PoP, with GoD being a very very close second.

When I PoP came out, I remember how scared I was to zone in to PoNightmare. The music was kind of creepy and I always saw people training the GY. There were all these guilds on my server (Innoruuk) that were trying to advance up the tiers, blocking each other, taking named spawns the were intrical parts of advancing. I was an officer in one of those guilds. I remember calling a target after scouting every zone in PoP looking for mobs to raid, only to be blocked by another guild who was FiF (first in force). It took my guild forver to advance through the gauntlet of PoP. We finally merged with another guild when there was a massive exodus of people leaving EQ soon after GoD came out. Guilds were waring thin and the only way for our guild to survive was to merge with another guild. So we merged and got to the elemental planes, OH!! the feeling our guild got becoming elemental was just so awesome. It was like walking on cloud 9. The elemental planes were nice, killing Xegony and FR were a cakewalk, however Coirnav and TRC were freakin impossible for us. Conquering them was another feat I enjoyed that only 1 other feeling that I could match my feelings with, and that's getting through GoD.

God was a very close second to PoP. I remember when GoD came out, a lot of people were leaving EQ. It was deemed impossible to muster. Going from Natimbi to Qinimi and through Barindu was always scary as hell, being that you never knew if that damn Kyv that sees invis was up or not. When something did see invis and started wailing on you, they hit so damn hard you couldn't even run away from them, they would kill you so fast it was sick. When I did my 4 sewers, Tipt and Vxed, I became KT flagged and got to join a lot of the uber guilds that were already there grouping up. Once again the waring of EQ players was causing a lot of guilds to disband, our guild once again merged with another. We joined the highest guild on our server (Silent Resurgence). This guild was regarding as our biggest and baddest guild on the server. Everyone on the server stood clear of these guys in PvP, and they always won all the GM arena events. Anyway, GoD was so hard, that this guild was stuck in Txevu and could not get past the Mastruq Champion event (iirc). We merged guilds, and after months of work beat Uqua (omfg what a relief) and Ikk 4. Whe got through Qvic, Inktu'ta, Txevu and into Tacvi. The feeling of getting into Tacvi was better than getting into PoTime. No one on our server would get into Tacvi until server mergers (Inny merged with The Nameless) and 2 guilds already had access. Being the only guild on Innoruuk to get into Tacvi was and is quite a feat. IMO GoD was the ultimate test of your guild's strength and tenacity. It tested people's TRUE skills and unity of a guild.

I currently have a 70 mage on The Nameless Server, 500 AAs or so, full CoA/DoN gear +. I really enjoyed PoP and GoD even though our guild has beaten everything else on EQ.

PoP hands down united the varius expansions. In making the game more accessible it also made the gamer more powerful. The raid loots from Xanamech to RZ are by far THE MOST ADVANCED to date. Several intriguing story lines and quests for varying level of dedication add to this expansions content desireability. PoP brought the expansions together. And did it without the half a level of xp in 30 minutes current content carrot. My oh my how did people ever love this game without beating it in 3 weeks? /salute

I cast my vote for Kunark, but Velious is a close second. For that matter I answered so quickly I didn't realize one could vote for "old world" and might have chosen that too.

These were expansions with some very complex design and real storylines. They were completely new continents, and not easy to get to. Velious originally required one to physically travel to the dragon spires to pick up a tooth before you could be ported there. I still remember my first passage through the giant city (Kael Drakkel) hoping my invisibility wouldn't fail or I'd become lost. Then having to get through the dragon city (Skyshrine) and get a key to get past there.

There were some great quests, and some very hard ones. My druid (Balto) did the Coldain Prayer Shawl quest to number 7, and the tradeskill work to get there was hell, but it left me with quite a sense of accomplishment when finally finished. He's never finished the 8th, as there is so much better gear these days that it would be useless to wear.

In my opinion the newer expansions just don't compare to the early ones like Kunark and Velious (and even Luclin). Of course that was also before SOE took over.

I have to say Kunark cause Iksars are my favorite race. PoP was a good one even if PoK ruined a lot of things. The Planes were well thought out and the progression was implemented nicely. I finallly started to do PoP and i like it so far.
