Dual Classes

Yes, I'm serious. There could be some kind of single player epic type quest that will allow you to delevel to 1 again and start over. Upon reaching level 70 you have all the abilities of both classes. We'd have near god level chars, but is that much different from what we have now?

Make it class and race restricted so you can't just go high elf necro if you wanted, but could do something like high elf paladin/mage etc. You have to force some of the agnostic classes to pick a god if they went the priest route of course.

Leveling should be significantly slower than it is now, but more balanced throughout all levels. Obviously some of the xp cows need to be nerfed. The goal here is make some of the lower level zones come back to life. Bringing back the leveling experience would help here.

Toss this idea around but don't beat me up about it. I know something like this would be extremely difficult to implement especially for the PvP server.

Thoughts? Suggestions? And no, Stop Posting is not the kind of suggestion im looking for. ;)

I only played EQ1 for a little while (very litte while), but from what I know from all the MMORPGs I played, I do know that there has to be compromises made somewhere. Saying "People are already extremely strong, so why don't we just do something for fun and make them Godly" is not a good idea for the wellbeing of the game.

On the other hand, I have always liked the idea of duel-classing (or sub-classing). What you need, though, if you are going to be partying with lots of people who will not have a subclass, is give a restriction to them for doing so. Otherwise it will simply halt everyone else who does not have a sub-class, since no one would invite them when they could take someone with a sub-class who is much stronger.

For example, if someone wants to sub-class, they have the skills/spells equal to 85% of their main class, and 50% of their sub-class. So, say you are a level 60 Priest/Mage. You would have the skills up to a level 51 Priest, and a level 30 Mage. This will set it so they will never get their level cap skills/spells, nor will they be able to have the most truely up-to-date skills, but they will have a new world of strategy on how the skills will stack together.

And if this is done, please oh please, do not do it the way FFXI did, where your subclass is basically chosen for you. While there are many different classes in FFXI, and you could technically subclass anything, there is "right" one, because anything else does not compliment each other. SoE would need to design it so that any two classes could be subbed, and work well, which would probably be a major overhaul, since adding a few melee skills to a primarily casting class would be stupid the way it is now.

Ohh, well, my 2 copper.

We already have dual classes, they are called hybrids in EQ.

An interesting proposition, but I don't think it would be something that would realistically happen. While I agree that at 70, you could restart, I can only imagine the coding nightmare that SOE would have to deal with. This seems like something that would have to be done either at game implementation or require a whole lot of changes to the core. That being said, it is still a nice thought to kick around for discussion and daydreaming... 10 years ago, these king of online games were only that, daydreams, and now look at them.

It wouldn't work, a lvl 70 enchanter lvl 20 Warrior is still going to be rubbish at melee, indeed the chanter mitigation would still be better.

The only way for it to work would be allow you to change your class and maybe race while you're at it, might be fun to play a faerie or a goblin.... Oh wait you can.

70 enchanter/20 warrior wouldn't be possible using the idea I suggested. You'd have to level that warrior to 70 to get your enchanter skills back. Once there though you could have a warriors hp's with an enchanters spells and mana pool. What a combo that would be.

Not really. At level 70 a hybrid doesn't have the skillset or spells of an equivalent level "parent" class. A level 70 Paladin can't complete heal etc. A level 70 Ranger can't nuke, heal, dot etc. like a Druid. It's not really the same concept.

Edit: could have sworn I replied to the posts above. Guess I forgot the text. :/ I'm sure ya'll can figure out who I was responding too. :)

i'm an ogre warrior, if we get serious about this, i'd go shaman, bam i'm a god 15k with my own Heals, buffs, low level pet, slow, haste i can solo WoS possibly mpg if i go the AC, hell if i got reall good with discs/aa's i could do RS what you purpose is insanity, there are already grouping issues on some servers, so lets make it impossible for people to get groups at 70, or make it so everyone can solo. emagine a human druid classing to a necro. best soloer in the game cause it would have 2 ways to heal, ports, fd, harmony, buffs, and like 4 or 5 different stackable mana regen buffs not to mention a wide assortment of dots, nukes, pets.

but hey if ur serious about it, make up a series of checks and balances what aa's should carry over, skills, spells from the secondary class and purpose it to sony, sometimes they actually take one person's idea and impove on it and make it.

Remember it should be pretty darn difficult to level up the 2nd time around. It'll be worth it in the end, but make it so not everyone would be willing to put in the effort required. Perhaps even put in a way to give up and just go back to your previous class?

I think it would vastly improve grouping at the lower and mid levels and bring some people back to old zones again. There will be people in newbie zones again since you wouldn't be able to use gloomingdeep for the first 10 levels. Imagine newbies running around blackburrow leveling up 5 times slower than before. Which brings me back to that other point. Nerf easy xp. (MM's, PC, even low possibly mid level hotzones)

Oh a slight balancing can be achieved by limiting the ogre warrior/shaman above to chain just like a shaman, possibly even in weapon choices.

None of these ideas are new, but I think its worth discussing
bringing it to EQ.

Edit: interestingly the only races that would be able to dual class warrior/enchanter would be Dark Elf/Gnome and Human. Neat.
Oh and you're Druid/Necro would only be possible with a human character. I can see the Human race becoming extremely popular if implemented.

Edit 2: That Druid/Necro wouldn't be possible at all. You can't worship the same god as a druid/necro.

How about a expansion that lets all players solo like in eq2? LOL oh yea like that would ever happen. Id pay $30 for a expansino that had no new zones spells etc if they would just let all classes solo. LFG for hours is no fun.

I don't want to solo. If I want to solo I'll go play WoW.

Hell no!!!

First of all they already have dual classes(Hybrids)

Second of all think of the havoc it would cause

Wizard/Rogues
Wizards/Necros
Warrior/Rogues
Rogue/Necros
Shaman/Rogue or ranger
Bard/Rogue

hell no!

Why would a person not want to be able to solo while you are LFG, especially from lower to higher levels. I mean it is easy on some servers for a lvl 25+ person to have nobody to group with. What is so terrible if all classes coudl solo abit and earn exp instead of sitting around lfg in POK? I didn't say every mob should be soloable, but it would be nice if they was kinda like eq2 mobs for instance. Have some mobs meant to be soloed while other mobs you better not touch without a group. The mobs you solo would give less exp and less loot.

That is actually why I am playing eq2 more right now then eq1.
