What sever is a good one for a newbie, or just one with many people.

Most all the servers have a good population maybe a little low population on new characters though. Most the low characters on all servers are Alts and will be well twinked. Frinoa Vie is a Role Playing server which only allows 1 character per account so players are less likely to be twinked, but has a nice feature of very few No Trade Items so just about anything can be purchased.

You really can't go wrong. Like was mentioned all the servers have about the same populations. Just pick and ask other players what they think.

I have characters on the Tribunal and Stromm servers. Although I love the Tribunal, Stromm is easier for a new character when it comes to looking for groups and/or a good family guild. Most lowbies are going to be alts and twinked to the hilt on either server...but that is true of almost all servers.

If you are looking to roleplay, the FV server would be good. You can only have one toon there and there are not that many twinks. I've always had fun with my low-level ranger there.

Anyway you pick, spend some time in Gloomingdeep and then head out to explore the world. Low level toons are a nice break and I always learn something or get re-introduced to a good old-world zone / quest.

Having recently started from scratch on Povar, I will give personal testimony to the folks kindness. It does help to be a "self starter" in making groups and friends.

Um.. no. FV is crawling with Twinks. Because of the No Trade thing. I believe the original justification was "family heirlooms".

*IF* I rerolled my 3 year old Necro Felicite, I would pass everything but my epic to the next me.

Edit: Now, FV also has "more chatting" than other servers, fairly friendly people and Guilds that would take you at level 1. But.. very small population (at the times I play).

Povar is an okay server to start on. We still have lots of players with about a year's experience because Morden Rasp was briefly a preferred server before it was merged into Povar.

Lower levels aren't using LFG like they used to, but you can show up in the tutorial or one of the hotspots and get a group fairly quickly if you advertise yourself.

Maelin Starpyre is pretty good...It's no Vazaelle mind you... Smiley: sly
Seems like theres 5 new guilds a day all recruiting in POK for members of any level.

A lot of servers are getting newbie populations back. Been seeing lots of "Returning to EQ" posts. This may partly be due to SOE giving 21 days free to inactive accounts of 45 plus days. Good luck and welcome to Norrath! :)

I'd say it depends on the time of day (or night) you can play; make a toon on a few servers, and check out the population in the Bazaar, PoK and a few high-end zones on each server, then make your choice.

Stromm was the last "new" server that I remember being created and there was a ton of people on there in the beginning making a fresh start for themselves. They did open it up for server transfers (back in the days when servers used to get over crowded and they needed to reduce populations - now they have to merge servers to keep populations high enough).

I think pretty much server you go to it will be hard to find true new players, but there are still some new people out there.
