Having installed EQ on a laptop, I forgot to change the screenshot type, as described here by JoltinJoe:

Add the following line to your eqclient.ini file:

ScreenshotType=jpg
Now I tried to convert the already taken .bmp-screenshots to .jpg:

Double click on the file. It *should* open up the bmp file in some sort of default windows viewer program (which could vary depending on the exact OS release you are using).

Once you've opened it up in pretty much any viewer program, hit file->Save as. A dialogue box should open up allowing you to rename the file. There should also be some sort of pull down that will allow you to choose what formate to save the file in (which will typically be the list of formats that viewer knows how to read). Select jpeg (jpg), make sure to rename the file and hit "ok".
Right. Double clicking *should* open up the .bmp file. But it doesn't. Error message: Not a valid .bmp file.

Anyone got an idea how to rescue the screenshots?

Hey there. I'm guessing that your new laptop has yet to have the proper assignment against image files. I would suggest you find your image viewer program, and use it to open the .bmp's. It may also be that you don't have a viewer; bare-bones systems sometimes have just that. You might have to download a viewer; I personally use IB2000 (freeware) which allows you to view folders via thumbnails, then modify them singly. If you're really savvy, try Paintshop or Photoshop, whichever you feel more comfortable with.

Good luck!

Ooof... If PSP can't open them, you might have damaged files. Can you view them at all with any other viewer? Worst case might be you take a screen capture if you can view them, and that is that. If you can't view them at all, they are most likely gone into the ether. You could try and find a reconstruction program, but the freeware versions are buggy at best, and to buy one can be quite expensive; all depends on how important the pics are to you.

Haven't tried other viewers, will try tonight... Don't think that it will work though, as I don't even get a preview in Windows Explorer...

Damn, those were pretty good pics... Smiley: cry

Anyone knows of a freeware prog to repair damaged .bmp files?
