So as I watch the yellow loading bar link me to the servers, I can't help but notice the new art for the next expansion. Once again, someone has changed the style of FV (new artist I assume, I can't draw stick figures so don't mistake my observation as a complaint), and that got me thinking about the other artwork.

So which expansion do you think had the best artwork?

Personally, I think Kunark. Nice jungle setting, the unveiling of the Iksars, and FV in bondage Smiley: jawdrop ; what more is there?

The artist for the earlier boxes, Keith Parkinson, died recently. A real loss for the fantasy art community and, if you were ever into RPGs, there's probably numerous works of his you'd recognize. I was lucky enough to meet him at a GenCon back in '91 where he signed a large poster of Lord Soth's Charge for me. While it's nothing I'd hang in the living room these days, it's a wonderful momento of long nights spent role-playing and reading.

Anyway, to answer your question, I'd almost call it a toss-up of any of the original three. I'll let Velious hedge out a narrow lead though. Aside from Ms. Vie inexplicably posing while wearing a bikini out on the tundra, the dragon fight is a nice bit of work.
