How do You Rate the Revamped Freeport?Follow

It looks pretty good. Im still having trouble with lag outside the gate however. At least they fixed the gate guards.

I liked the Old Freeport, however, I really like the new one. Being someone who loves to study the ancient cities as a hobby, the new FP looks more realistic (given it is a video game and certain realistic things just can't be dont to maintain effectivness). Honestly, I would like to see other zones revamped and used more often.

However, all is not good.
1. The find option needs to work.
2. The maps from the atlas need to work properly
3. The boats need to be functionable (ok...so thats a bit more personal)

Other than that, I really enjoy the new look. And before people start sending hate mail to me about not playing long enough to understand the importance of the old, I have been playing sinse Vel.

Thinks its great. The steaming piles of horse crap are a nice touch. ? endquote

thats not horse crap where do you think boomba goes to the bathroom ? they wont let him use public restrooms! they would be unuseable for weeks! seriously i like it but if they would have added more content like a reason to fight there like in the old daysbesides the arenas which is coool but cmon do we really have to start that fricking quest over each time someone new comes in ? give us like points or something i dont know but haveing to restart it every time sucks.

Id like raid content similar to icewall keep but up to todays lvl maybe lucin or something, coldain like quests long and involved with tons of lore that invovle the strife between east and west freeport.

I gave it a 2.

1: They forgot to update the NPC models so I am STILL looking at retarded chrome-dome militia-men!

2: I have to give them credit, the graphics look nice, and I have been /feedbacking stuff like;

/feedback "Why the ***** don't you ******* dev's grow some ****** ****** and ****** the director to ******* **** * * ** **************** * * * ********** * ** * and update some ****** old world ***** *** ******!!!!"

Sometimes I am nice about it.

I think it looks okay, but I am totally lost now! Have to relearn where everything is. Are they planning on revamping the other cities as well? The other newbie-ish zones all look pretty sad with their 2d trees compared to Freeport now.

The revamp serves no useful purpose. It's just eye-candy for the sake of it, as witness buildings with doors that don't open, which are thus just there for the sake of it. NPCs moved around for no real purpose. One thing that really annoys me is the revamp of the store with a door that needed it's lock picked, as part of the Rogue "Burning Rapier" quest. It took some skill to do it, and was a good way to improve Lockpick skill, but now the required item just lies on the floor, upstairs, for anyone to pick up. Dumbing down for the win!

Now, don't get me wrong - EVENTUALLY they did a nice job on Nektulos, even though the first revamp was a shambles. Can we have the OLD Freeport layout with - if eye candy is what is deemed vital these days - the new-style building graphics?

Oh, and fix the FIND function properly, for god's sake!! It works sometimes, but too many times it doesn't.

I love how people will complain that it takes too long to run from one side of FP to the other in one breath and then complain that they can't use the god-forsaken boats or complain about the ease of travel with the PoK books in another. Then there's the people that complain that they should of left it alone because the old FP was so great but also complain that it shouldn't of been revamped because they haven't been to FP in years and it should've been done to another zone. If people aren't ******** they aren't happy I guess.

I personally am pretty indifferent about it. Looks ok, kinda laggy. I only go there to get to arcstone so it's nice that the academy is relatively close to the main gate. Other then to get to arcstone I typically don't go there so it doesn't bother me either way.

I think where they have gone wrong over the years is to many expansions have been made. The best thing they could`ve done was revamp zones with new landscaping and new mobs to kill.I would keep the spawn points the same not to ruin all the maps that have been done over the years. If they had kept there expansions down grouping would be more common.I used to be able to find groups at lvl 4-65 easy back in the day.Now you can`t buy yourself a group usually unless you make your own which i prefer anyways.I used to wait for 2 to 4 hours in Highhold Keep the lists were that long. All camps i went too had waiting lists which was great to have. The populations are less than half of what they used to be.Keep making expansion and everyday each zone becomes a ghost zone.Dumb,Dunb,Dump revamp zones, mobs, gear drops, keep all the instant zones and ldons they are good to have but all other zones should be revamped.Wake up sony you have more than enough zones for good zone exp.You have made so many expansions now that there is no way one can exp in them all because you dont have enough time to explore.I would think myself i have not seen 98 percent of the game due to having to many zones exp in.I know visiting any zone that exp aint possible is not fun unless you are farming gear, drops and what not.I think changes are good but from what your doing now aint going to help the game by combing zones and making the laggy like Jagged Pine Forest.

Yes i agree they have ruined alot of Everquest indeed.I myself would leave the tutorial bs and run to Iskar land and lvl the old way.I come from when you did`nt have it so easy like now.I guess only reason for this is from a business point we got make all classes able to solo and make no actually down time so they exp fast and have fun in turn keep coming back for more.I have been around for over 6 years so you dont really have to change much in my opinion.Im sad to see Oasis is no more alot great fun and memorys indeed.I also miss going around and buffing newbies in the newbie area. One thing about being new to any zone you got to explore your homeland while exping,i dont see why they would make you anti social with the stupid tutorial lvls.If you aint lvling in your starting city you are missing out alot of fun lvls.I recall one night i went to rivervale with my 4 gnome mage and made a couple of halfling buddys and we would hunt together the 3 of us.It was exciting and fun to be in a group at those lvls.Dont miss out on lvls early in life.Ahh heres a example of being scared and excited at the same time.I was a Erudite Necro and for me being a blind race at night sucked,so i decided at lvl 8 i got get out here and take the boat to Qeynos knowing im kos there.I recall jumping off the boat and praying i didn`t get killed by a shark because corpse recovery would be devasting.I had to find my way through the Qeynos catacombs and get to a safe spot and run through the city knowing if invisible breaks im dead meat.Well the good was i made it out there and into Qeynos newbie zone for exp and became non kos to the guards thank god.Now i would be able to invis and use bank atleast. The rush you get being kos cant be felt when now you just click a book and hey im here that was easy. The game made you use your head more and learn zones better and to use faction in order to sell or buy items.I had to faction In the Karanas zones for merchants to sell to me.Now faction means nothing unless a quest involves a mob or npc in a zone. You see the only way to move around was by a boat and a druid, wizzie port which cost 10 platium to port you elsewhere.I had no platium to give so i was limited in mobility at low lvls.If anyone now had to run from Erudin and take a boat plus running to Butcherblock Mountains to get into a chessboard group it was a long adventure even if sow was a option which it wasn`t.If you did have sow it only lasted maybe 30 and taking a boat ride it would drop off way before you got off.Scary part was the chance seafury giants would kill you and all that travel time was just lost. You had to petition a gm in game and pray he or she didn`t have to may others in front of you.I would wait anywhere from 2hours+ sometimes for gm to recover corpse from the Ocean Of Tears sea bottom. This is just a little of what you guys will never exp in everquest its gone forever.what you exp now is nothing but easy travel, exp, platium buyable, and buffs buyable, and easy portal books.I hear alot peeps try the old school new zones and they run back because of it not being easy it makes me laugh. It also tells me you are clueless and spoiled from the game being to easy for you.To many e-bay buyers out there now and platium buyers have ripple effects in everquest also.I`m done rambling about great old everquest have fun young ones.

I can't stand it. I liked the old Freeport.
#92 May 26 2007 at 12:33 PM Rating: Decent
I give it a 2. Although they did not completely ruin the zone there was no need to completely remodel Freeport for the updates to PoR expansion, and since they didn't seem to even finish the remodel it doesn't deserve more than a 2.

FYI you can still enter "Old Freeport" in a sense. The pirate Monster Mission "The Poisoned Flounder" starting in Butcherblock sends you to the old Freeport West for a good romp down memory lane while you slaughter the populace.
