Pumping Life into a Matured GameFollow

#1 Mar 18 2006 at 1:24 PM Rating: Decent
I have always enjoyed the thrill of the hunt Ever Quest has given me over the years. Now I struggle to find groups in my level range (anything < 70 with 500+AAs). When I log onto a younger toon 8 out of 10 time the only pick up group I find is a power level session. The true adventure of same level toons battling it out tooth and nail is gone.

I have read many “I’m coming back” posts on the forum here at Alla’s site. I’d think some if not all run into the same thing. So the question presented is how to Pump Life into a Matured Game?

This is my proposal: I’d like to find a group of like minded players that don’t want to rush to level 70 or raid 4days a week. Rather take time to smell the roses. Work though the older expansions. And progress when every one is ready, to whatever new adventures awaits. There is so much fun to be had at all stages in Ever Quest.

The Ever Quest Test Server seems like the best place to hold these adventures. It’s a low key server with a low population.

Please post any comments or suggestions. The thread is intended to be a beacon for players seeking similar game play. Not a rant session about EQ.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

I have a level 27 Cleric on Stromm. I'm currently doing the LDoN adventures, but having a rough time getting groups together for it. I'd love to be able to explore the content of the previous expansions without having to deal with level treadmill burnout. Look me up sometime. Toon is named Mhenlo.

I have 8 toons on Stromm, from a lvl 1 cleric trader to a 61 shammy. I actually play seven, making one a mule whilst playing the other six. Takes a while to switch but no big deal. For me the key has been making characters who can solo when need be. The only toon I have who is group dependent is my 34 rogue, and maybe my 14 SK, we'll see.

There is SO much to do in Norrath that I am never bored. Even when my rogue cannot find a suitable group there are still places for him to go and explore, places in which my higher toons could not hope to travel. My druid can do things and go places that my Bard or shammy cannot and my shammy will be asked into group configurations that wouldn't consider my Necro or beastie. Level don't matter if yer not looking to level.

I think the main consideration for EQ is that it is not like other games. There's no 'best' toon or style of play. There's no best configuration to strive for. It's a WORLD! Unique to computer games as far as I know. The only way to 'win' EQ is to find a class/race you enjoy playing. I'm not really concerned with being the most uber player with the most astounding gear. It's possible to keep your eye on the prize to the extent that you forget about the game.

I am irked as well when I log my rogue into OT and there are only five other players in the zone, four of my approximate level and one anon lvl 70, all in the same guild. But it doesn't make me want to play another game. I just go see what my 'unsoloable' toon can do solo. Do I die a lot? Sure. Do I care? Nope. The guild lobby has taken the last qualm away from dying as far as I'm concerned. You can even get rezzed. For me this applies to all levels/classes.

Along the way I have partnered or grouped with some virtual people that have made my day/session and with whom I still keep in contact. I have also mastered the fine art of dropping clueless players like a hot potato. I find that there are LOTS of people that have the same attitude I do concerning the adventures of Norrath and I don't concern mesself with those that don't.

I would love to raid with my main and get the gear/keys to go see the places to which I have never been. Time and RL considerations make this unlikely in the near future. Am I embarassed that My best stuff is Tae Ew? LOL, maybe a little, but I think I'll survive. Do I have fun playing EQ? You bet. Why else play?

Same here, our guild is quite small, but we still ahve fun, we dont do raids, and some zones are off limit because we have not got the people or the lvls to get there, but still all of us have fun, enjoying eq at a slow pace.

Look me up on AB, if you ever should come there

I have been barking up that tree for a long time, but usualyl when I mention anything about it somebody gets all offended and starts ranting and raving at me so I just gave up. I am currently not playing eq1. I changed my password and can't remember what it was (damn sleeping pill). Problem is I dont' remember my my original birthdate was. I was stupid and put some bogus birthday in for no apparent reason so I can't get my password.

I would love to go out and buy Titanium, but Im not getting back into a game that I can't get groups in. I have(well had) several lvl 30ish alts and it just seems like once you outgrow Paludal Caverns people your level just vanish. I mean I could do a /who all 25 30 and find 4 total people, and 2 of them was usually bazaar merchants. I think if SOE would stop making lvl 70 raider expansions it might encourage alt growth, but I don't see that happening.

I did just recently manage to sneak into the live world. I had a old escape to norrath account and oddly enough it let me log into a normal server (but only kunark and velious seem to be activated expansion wise). I got to see the new Freeport and Desert of Ro...what a waste IMO. Just more lag and harder to get around town. The desert itself is actually nice looking, but I think they should have at least left the basic layout of Freeport the same.

I kinda like the idea of getting on the test server with a regular group of like minded players. I have a hell of a time finding a group outside my small family style guild (who I love dearly). My problem is I don't have as much play time lately. When I do, I am usually bored stiff LFG and working on tradeskills (which is fun, but ot why I play EQ) I play on Bert (TP). If you want to get something like this going on the test server, post a day and time and I will join in with you Verhexen. I would love to just get out there and explore, see the world as it was meant to be seen.

I've been playing on Test for a bit too, and while I've never gotten out of thirty-something, I too would be willing to join a slower paced guild who wanted to explore as well as exp. Just as Aquaphobe said, set a day and time and I'll try to make it. Toon's name on Test is Sallizar.

Edit for spelling.

Campdog said they have "mastered the art of how to drop clueless people like a hot potato"? /drops campdog. If you want to breath life into EQ... don't play it like a stuck up snot. Because that "clueless" person is a noob. noobs=everyone who plays EQ. we were all noobs once. we all ran out for a pull and came back with dozens of mobs. hey campdog... how about instead of dropping them from your group you help them understand the ropes a little? how about helping somebody instead of thinking about your own selfish ***? i hate... hate... hate people with your attitude campdog. i will drop groups because of people who act stuck up. i will tell you why i'm going to drop your group, pack up my buffs, or my pet (depending on what toon i'm on) and flick you off as i gate. i would much rather play an alt than get upset with a **** like yourself.

in closing... if you want people to play your game or enjoy being in your group, don't act like campdog and drop the noobs. w/o the noobs buying the game how will sony make money? get it? w/o the noobs buying the game how will EQ be able to stick around?

there is wisdom is what darhkv mentioned: help the newbies. everyone started from zero. sure there are alot of high level, clueless players out there. but they're willing to learn if you give them the chance.

you can't last long in EQ if you don't learn how to play your class. be patient with the new comers.
