remember when?Follow

Remember when the idea of Excellent XPing in the early levels was a bandit group in the Karanas and turning in the sashes for bronze weapons and experience!

i remember i earned the gold to buy my spells by doing the quest where i took message from the bard in Erudin to the bard guild in Qeynos. i thought it was a ingenious "exploit" because i took the boat to Qeynos, and Gated back! i checked /whoall GM whenever i did this because i thought i would be caught and subsequently banned for my 'sploit.

I agree that there is too much newbie content and none of it all that good. I personally think they need to adjust the lower level content to make it much more appealing to new players.

People can't find groups at lower levels because there really isnt an influx of new players. You may see lower level characters but they are mainly high level players making alts. If SoE wants to increase its profits, it should attract new players and stop relying on releasing semi-decent expansions every six months. It is a simple business decision.

not really. Sony would be very hard-pressed to come up with new players to make up for lost profits if they, say, halved the expansion rate. They'd lose out on higher end players leaving because they have nothing to do, and expansion sale profits.

There's actually a pretty good number of low level people, and, yeah, quite a few honest to god newbies. A large part of the problem is that they are spread out across so many zones.

To be honest Groogle, I haven't seen that many true newbs around. The ones I have seen are begging for scraps in PoK. Maybe it is just the Luclin server; I don't know. Anyway, I would just like to see EQ attract a lot more new blood, without pissing off the high end raiders.

On a side note, I remember when I would hand my old weapons down to newb players in Qeynos and people would be jumping up and down for joy that they got rid of their rusty ax. Now, when I hand someone an old weapon, some are like WTF do I want this for and then the level 11 links like the BoC or something...lol

I haven't played in about 8 weeks or so, but last I remember, there was still a good newb population on Povar.

Some true newbies as well, as I was raising a baby bard, and ran into a whole group of players who had never logged in before.

When:

making 1k pp a day was only done in RM

you had to wait for a boat

you lost xp on death at lvl 4

Druids and Wizards could make mad pp porting people around

you never had room in your bank

tradeskills payed off

grinding 4 lvls in a day because you couldnt sleep till you had your next set of spells

medding ment you couldnt see...ANYTHING

having a differant set of gear for xping, tradeskills, buying/selling, and corpse runs

you had to go back for your corpse

you wore out the # key you had assigned to sense heading skill

you had a notebook full of handdrawn maps or printed maps from eqatlas

your sense heading skill and the landmarks drawn in your map book was all you had to get around

3 differant guilds would do ToV, 1 using /ooc, 1 using /shout, 1 using /auction

you were happy to get an orc 1 group

you had to recast your pet each time you zoned

most people died on the way to the arena rather than in the arena

Running from Freeport to Queynos WITHOUT Sow ! My Lord , that was a LONG *** trip.
#42 Mar 24 2006 at 1:33 PM Rating: Decent
Any druids out there remember when you cast sow on yourself the first time and the first time you got a donation for casting it on someone else?

Then later the first time you turned yourself into a wolf?

Remember when you could move while in tree form? A huge tree riding up the lift in Kelethin?

My first character was a druid. He's still here but only level 42 as my warrior eventually became my main. But my best and earliest memories are from being a low level druid in December 1999.

I remember when i first started playing eq in '99 or so i was fishing in qeynos when to my suprise i pulled out some sandals! Oh how overjoyed i was as i popped those sandals right into my feet slot. They were ac1 and the icon had seaweed all over them, but they were better than what i had.

I remember the really cool live events they did. Halloween in paticular was awesome.

Anyway, remember when:

Druids camped dyllin starshine for hours and hours for the piece for the testement of venar.

LoIO was the place to be for lvling

The entrance to qeynos and freeport were swamped with people.

Well theres alot more but im getting too nostalgiac.

1.My cleric wore bronze BP in a pick-up Naggy raid and got a 100% WR bag.

2.Its much easier to find a group at any level.

3.CR was a pain in *** but also part of the fun of the game.

4.CotD & Onyx Order are still "live" guilds. I still pourd to be a member of them.

The culture in game was changed. Partial done by theme introduced by SoE's through several expansions.

Good hunting.

The memories that stand out most is the feeling of dread when I first fell down the tree pit trap in Blackburrow.

And for some reason, I remember the bug that light sources where still visible on an invisible person. I would follow a circle of light around for the longest time trying to figure out what was going on. (the player I inadvertantly was following probably didn't find so much enjoyment in having a stalker)

How many remember the tumpy tonic quest? I had a druid that made 21 levels just doing that quest and NEVER killed a single mob. The ultimate pacifist.

One habit I can't seem to break is hitting the space bar to get past the login screen.

And yes...I know these are fond memories but I still enjoy (most of) the advancements that have come out.

remember when, we ran to bandl and had a chat in everfrost.

remember when, i sat at south wall and would occasionally get raped by a orc shaman.

remember when, i banked for high level druids at the ice giant fort in everfrost.

remember when, west karana was feared not for mobs but for the 20 minute run across.

remember when, droon, proon and broon could not be .... pooned?

remember when, Nagy and Vox could lay the smack down.

Remember when, vengeful's in the noobie zone was the most terrible thing a noob could find.

remember when, velks was uber fast exp!

remember when, kael armor was awwesum!

remember when, complete healing took the whole mana bar!

remember when, OT was the best exp spot in the land for lvl 30s!

remember when, the boat trip to FV was the only was in or out!

remember when, Karnors was train city.

and do you remember the days of your joyous guild where friends and family alike would gather and group for fun, having the best times?...

I remembered a "remember when" as I was running through a zone last night. (someone briefly touched on it earlier)

Do you remember....

Druids offering ATM services?

Druids would offer to take your copper, silver, and gold and exchange them for the lighter weight platinum. They would gate back to a banker, then port to west commons or some other zone you were in to give you your platinum.

I think thats what I remember fondly the most about Everquest in the begining. You could trust people with your money or items.

Can you imagine now handing over your money to a stranger and trusthing them to give you the money back with a small % as a fee for the service?
