While working Knights of Truth faction last night killing guards in East Freeport at the Militia house I looted a:

http://lucy.allakhazam.com/item.html?id=13926

Thought I would hold onto it and come to alla's and see what quest it was for. Low and behold its not in the database here! A first for me.

Now I want to decipher what quest it is used in and I could use some help. Never tried one of these from scratch.

The item identifies as Alayle's Tunic. I did a search of all the mobs in EQ and didn't find any with this name. I'm assuming this is a quest where you go kill this militia guard to get the tunic to return to some other npc that has lost his wife/husband/brother/sister or some other person.

The guard that dropped it (can't remember the name) was found in the basement of the Militia House sitting on a bench facing the Militia Armorer. The wierd thing was that this guard died with only one or two hits, whereas most of the others have a lot more hitpoints. Im also assuming this guard was extremely low level.

No other guards dropped the item, so I'm going to go back tonite and track down his name.

This quest is obviously for someone of opposing faction to the Freeport Militia since you have to kill the guard to get the item.

Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Alayle was a guard who was actually a paladin. He was found inside the guard house. He was involved in both a small quest in NFP where you took a note back to the paladin GM. IF you kept the note you could begin the quest Zimels Blade aka Soulfire.
When you hailed him and got the note two milita would then attack him.
Quick look in bestiary right now does not have him in revised EFP.Maybe he went to WFP?
Edit to add the quest info he was part of.

I did a search of the bestiary for all zones and didn't get any hits on that name.

Looking at the history on Lucy for the item reveals that the lore info was added in November of 2005, so I'm assuming the quest was broken previously and this fixed it. The item was added to the db in 2004 but looks like it was corrected at that Novemember 2005 date.

Perhaps next I will just approach every paladin and cleric in the 2 Freeports and attempt to get a response with the Tunic.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for the help!

Try to look up the quest history, do a search on soulfire to look at who gives the original note quest. Hall of Truth IIRC.

Thanks for the help Jonwin. I found Guard Alayle and he is indeed used in the Paladin epic quest. Unfortunately no mention is made of him dropping this Slashed Militia Tunic.

I'd rate your posts up, but my karma isn't high enough to matter.. hehe

The search continues....

If you didnt know that a paladin spy was in the milita hall I am betting that you looted the tunic of a dead alayle, not knowing he was a good guy. You may not have noticed the faction hits on his death.
If this is the case you would probably find turning in the tunic to the militia as proof of killing a spy for them would be a quest, rather then returning his tunic to the paladins in the temple.
Just my educated guess.

Ok, I went and investigated and found that I had indeed killed Guard Alayle for the Slashed Militia Tunic. The odd part is that he isn't fully on Knights of Truth faction.

I was max ally with Knights of Truth when I conned him. The con returned that I was "warmly" to him. The other factions in Freeport that I am "warmly" to is the Priests of Marr and Steel Warriors.

Granted this quest item must be for an opposing faction quest such as the Militia, I just found it odd that he is a Paladin spy, but not fully on Knights of Truth faction.

Bah.. finally found the quest in the database after spending a week trying to find it in game.

Not sure why the item is not in the database.

Here is the quest:
