Alright...I finally got EQ to work, I've registered my free 30 day trial, I've died numerous times in Innothule Swamp trying to get my 2nd newbie armor quest done only to find the quest was 'broken'...

I've just got one question, and a bit of a statement to make.First, the question. Where does the Old World progression quests start? Are there even old world progression quests anymore?

Now, the statement...Do you guys think that after the next expansion the devs should..y'know, take some time off and fix the numerous bugs that seem to be plaguing EQ? I think it's rather sloppy that the first broken quest you find is a newbie quest which is part of the initial path the game puts you on... So yea, I think that the devs should just go and fix as many bugs/broken quests/whatever as they can after the next expansion.

SOE not fixing bugs has been the topic of many discussions and was during Fan Faire too. Seems the idea of beta testers may be bugged to begin with according to one:

One thing on the bug-fest that is PoR. Having done several beta tests I'll upfront say a big problem is the testing population on beta - it's mostly fanbois and people with vested interests in being friends with the developers, so instead of deeply testing and or looking for bugs, they look at the content in ways they can praise the developers for their brilliant vision. It's a joke of a gimp community based on EQ's self-proclaimed elite.

Bash the content for bugs, exploits, or deviations from the developer's vision and expect to be told you're playing the wrong game. Fortunately, there are private ways to contact the developers without having to be attacked by the rabid class coorespondants and fanbois. Regardless, much in the same way test center is incompetent, beta outside of raid tuning is a joke.

Classical EQ lacked the equivilant of a "progression" as we know it today. It was more a matter of gaining levels, equipment, allies, wealth, items, character skills, and player skills.

It was sort of like:
-Noob grounds
-Noob grounds, further back
-Lowbie grounds, edge
-Lowbie grounds, further in
-Lowbie grounds, finding the elite mobs
And so on, up to about the raid-class MOBs, the most famous of which were, and still are, the dragons, Naggy and Vox; they were end-game content.

Many have been demanding that the game is fixed before new content is released. Given the community's relative acceptence of the bugs, even if a grudging consession, it's unlikely anything major will be done until the zones themselves are overhauled, if even then.

Ah, alright, so old world EQ is just about levelling and stuff, then? What of Kunark progression, how should I go about starting that?

...And yea, it sucks about the bugs >_< Eventually it'll be the bane of EQ if the devs don't do something about it...

Kunark is same as old world, nont really any progression.

PoP was the first truley progression based expansion

There are different types of progression though Luclin had it's own form of progression as did velious. PoP was the first flag progression though

Ah, by progression, I mean like...storyline quests and stuff.Like, I've heard Velious has these nice faction quests and a bunch of that jazz to play with.Kunark didn't have anything like this?

Big storyline progression didnt happen until PoP. Earlier expansions had a little, but nothing big through an entire expansion.

The faction quests werent really quests. It was just that you had 3 factions, and you would kill creatures of the opposing faction to the one you wanted to boost.

Hm, that's weird. With everyone saying Velious was all awesome and stuff, I figured it had a good set of quests and stuff to do that were really great o.o; Ah well.

There's your progression quest.

That's a pretty famous Velious era progression quest. Scroll down a bit and you will see the previous 9 quests neccessary for the ring-war. There's also a shawl quest that is progressive, but requires a bit of tradeskilling, perhaps more than a bit, I never had the patience. Good luck!

this is a major downside of WoW in my mind... it's conditioned the average mmorpg player to believe that the only way to create an immersive, intriguing, and fun game world is through quests.

I actually didn't come from WoW; never played it. I was always a console gamer, so FFXI is my home ^^;

Still, though, yea, questing is fun for me to do. I get my enjoyment out of going off, completing this set of objectives, killing that hugeass monster, and saving the day =P Without quests, RPGs just aren't that fun for me, to tell you the truth, which is why many MUDs I've tried just don't do it for me. Half of them have very few quests, and just feel like a slaughterfest...

Thanks for the link, BTW, Barkingturtle, I'll look into it ^^
